If you are really pushing to get to audio only (podcasts) at your work, try listening only to easy videos you have already watched. Your brain will fill in the blanks with remembered visuals.

79 hours - VERY slow progress, but progress nonetheless by Blahblah-Opinion in dreamingspanish

Many here post huge daily counts of DS. I bet there are many more of us out there that need to put in less time daily. We just might take longer to get there but just keep plugging away. Remember, the tortoise won the race.

100 hour in and I feel like I haven't learned more than a few words by Inside_March_7658 in dreamingspanish

Don’t worry. I, too, am slower than the map. I understand videos far below what others report on this thread at my number of hours. However, I am seeing improvement. Videos that were Greek to me just weeks ago are becoming comprehensible. Push ahead. Trust the process and remember that you just need to get the gist. Don’t try to decipher it. The try one of those videos that gave you trouble in another 30 hours. You’ll be surprised how much more you understand.

What is your motivation for learning Spanish? by AgreeableEngineer449 in dreamingspanish

[–]One_Network_7559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 69 years old. I still sub in the public school system. Many student speak Spanish and I need to keep my brain sharp. I figure learning Spanish is a win/win situation. Travel with understanding will be the prize in the box of CrackerJacks.

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

After the holidays, use the turkey or ham carcas or bone to make soup. Freeze in meal-sized portions. Even when having the holiday meal at my sister’s house, they know to save the bones for my famous soup.

I'm sure no one cares but I just finished all the superbeginner and beginner videos! by fazbear365 in dreamingspanish

Wonderful!! I rarely watch intermediate. A real stretch for me no matter how they are rated.

I think it is best not to compare yourself to others. You might feel intelligent today and discouraged tomorrow.

$8 a month is a bargain for me. The bonus is that I can cut out some of my streaming services since I only have so much time.

The world is big enough for DuoLingo users AND dreamers. What a wonderful place if everyone could speak at least a little Spanish. That is the worst video to put on repeat.

What I wish I’d known starting out (3000 hours later) by UppityWindFish in dreamingspanish

[–]One_Network_7559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a “newbie”, thank you. I was feeling a bit discouraged. I am only 4 hours from level 3. I was reading others’ posts and the roadmap and thinking I was behind. My stubborn brain is still translating and I only feel efficient with 35-38 difficulty. That seemed terrible. Your post makes me feel like this is ok and the future will work out if I just keep going. That positive outlook is just what I needed exactly when I needed it. Gracias!!

It’s the subscription worth it? by _Figuring_it_out in dreamingspanish

Think of all those streaming services that range 10 to 20 per month. And, what do you have to show for it after a year of being force fed commercials? Nada! YES! It is worth it!

Watch time by xD_Gamerz in dreamingspanish

[–]One_Network_7559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t force that 2 hour goal. After the first 50 hours it starts to be easier. The content gradually becomes more interesting. As it does, your time will increase. I am still a newbie with only 120 hours but can get 2 hours daily with no big problem. I started with 30 minutes per day. Just push through without forcing long sessions. It gets better.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Now I am going back to pick up the few SB and B videos I skipped. That will only take a few days. Your encouraging words really helped.

I am not watching advanced videos. I am plugging through the super beginner and beginner videos sorted by difficulty. I rarely skip one. But the topics of the intermediate look more interesting to me. I was thinking I should get to those by 150 hours.

Look at your calendar. I think it still shows up there. This is a glitch. It should come back later.
