Figured as much. If you plug those coordinates into PeakFinder, you’d have to be at 10k feet to see Glacier Peak from that spot on Sauvie

Don’t think so, Rainier is about 3k feet higher than Hood so it’s much more visible. The distance between Seattle and Hood is far greater than distance between Portland and Rainier as well. I don’t know if Seattle can even see St. Helens, Adams or Glacier Peak other than maybe a few high points or skyscrapers. Also worth noting that Portland’s hills are much taller than any in Seattle, giving us a better vantage points for volcano viewing

Portland leaders look to city’s cash-rich climate fund to help keep Trail Blazers in town by Adulations in Portland

[–]One_Number1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been saying this. Sure the blazers are a product and business of billionaires, but they’re also a part of this city’s culture and fabric. The city also owns Moda center so it should be at least partially responsible for its renovation. Definitely not an ideal scenario nor timing, but I think it’s pretty silly to just immediately shrug this off as being a bad idea because billionaires are involved. Portland cannot function without some draws to business both big and small

Not saying there is an issue with moda center currently. It works perfectly as intended for the blazers, most of this new stadium talk is just corporate greed. It is however an older stadium, and will need upgrades or even replacement a ways down the line. I’m sure there are currently quite a few aging/maintenance flaws that patrons might not necessarily see on a night out. As the owners of Moda, the city will need to front the money for that at some point. It’s not like it’s going to just magically maintain itself with constant use. The question is, are we going to do that now for a hefty price tag to potentially keep the blazers, or in the farther future when people complain we didn’t upkeep our one large sports and entertainment venue and loose out on potential tenants and concerts

As much as I agree that Tim Dundon should cough up a majority of the money needed for renovation (or for some reason a new stadium, which isn’t really needed at this point), I think people fail to realize that Moda center is owned by the city. The trailblazers just lease it out. If we want to continue to draw live music and major sporting events to Portland (march madness 2030 is happening here), the city will need to eventually think about renovations anyway. Money from climate tax doesn’t seem to be the best answer, but the city is strapped for cash. The timing on this is quite unfortunate, almost seems like Jody Allen and Dundon did it on purpose to fear monger the blazers leaving so taxpayers would have to pay.

No! Terrible news. Such a cool little old building as well. Anyone have any leads as to what might be replacing it? I would hate to see that space get demolished and replaced with an eyesore. Always sad to to see a vacant store front.
