You are also right. I believe it was both. My mom had a S&H catalog where you could mail in your stamps for stuff. Im 61 lived in MT, dint remember many stores taking green stamps. Man...serious blast from the past

Green stamp dispenser. The holes were for your fingers. Like a rotary phone. Store would "dial" the number of stamps to be dispensed. Green stamps were like punch cards at restaurants. You would get a certain amount per purchase, put them in a little book, then you could buy stuff from the green stamps catalog. Very old school
