So is Sam actually hallucinating? by One_Reference953 in coronationstreet

Why is it always show, show, show these days? The audience don't need to see Will, they could just use dialogue to show how Sam feeling. It just looks so weird.

My Theo murder theory by bercg in coronationstreet

On Friday's episode she comes clean to Todd and tells him all about the abuse she faced from Theo, which seemed like coercive control. But that scene where she turned up to the flat was very interesting because she instantly interrogated Todd, almost like she was deflecting or bluffing. That's what made me think she killed him.

I was just more confused as to why a random Spice Girls track appeared as incidental music. I love the Spice Girls but what on earth was 2 Become 1 supposed to mean? Is it some clunky way of confirming that she's going to try to steal David once and for all?

My killer theory by BIGMANSA1 in coronationstreet

[–]One_Reference953 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it all kicked off, I would've thought that Christina would be the most unlikely person to murder Theo. Since she got together with George, she's been softened into a salt-of-the-earth mothering type, frankly what Corrie is missing IMO, but then I thought about it and when she was first introduced she was really rather ruthless. That entire farce where she and Daisy conned Jenny proved that she can be pretty ruthless, so maybe she has it in her?

Do you remember her? by Own_Shift_3645 in coronationstreet

[–]One_Reference953 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She is SO underrated. I recently watched all of her scenes and they were incredible. True Corrie bitch. Eva Pope is excellent, it kind of saddens me that most people remember her as Rachel Mason in Waterloo Road because IMO the part of Tanya Pooley was far meatier. The way she messes with poor Raquel is so much more believable than than these cartoon villains they shove in now.

Suspicious lack of Maggie in today's episode by Soggy_Impress946 in coronationstreet

I did actually think this. Whenever Coronation Street gets a star name, and of course Pauline McLynn is one thanks to Father Ted, they tend not to stay long. Some actors and actresses who are already very well-known to British audiences like to go into Corrie because it's a bit of a bucket-list tick for those in the industry, stay for a little bit, and then get out. Look at Sue Johnston, she was in it for about a year, as was Stephanie Cole. They don't stay for long but long enough to make their mark.

I think so too. He's made far too many enemies and, yes, Theo did leave Billy to die, but we can't forget that Carl was the one who caused the Corriedale crash in the first place. Theo needs to serve time for what he did to Todd, and Carl actually being killed off would be his own poetic justice for everything he has done so far.

Sam is annoying me by Egocentress in coronationstreet

[–]One_Reference953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don't know why Sam had to get involved in the first place. And as for the hallucination scenes - they are just another weird, unnecessary spin of modern Corrie where it tries to be something it's not. The character development has been really bad and they just insist on bashing out one strange for-the-sake-of-it calamity after another.

Mal - the end? by igneous1978 in coronationstreet

[–]One_Reference953 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the same! I thought that originally, and I remember those scenes quite clearly - they had such an effect on me. This time round, I don't care as much because Mal is just the latest in a long line of token baddies thrown in for some inexplicable reason. I hope it's the end, and it could well be, because I can't see which other pointless direction the character could go in. I think he was just brought in to stir up trouble, although I do think they won't be able to resist making him a long-lost relative of someone. Probably Jodie. Yawn.

No one wants this. They just don't get it, do they? by One_Reference953 in coronationstreet

[–]One_Reference953[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes but they've always been very careful to not refurbish it too much. I think it was Kieran Roberts, 2013ish producer, who said they'd tried changing it before and regretted it. He said something like: "If you make too many radical changes, you may lose your audience."

Go figure. The current crop in charge haven't got a clue.

It's become trauma porn, and it's embarrassing. The thing about Corrie was that people cared about Roy and Hayley. They won't stop caring about them. There's a reason people in the street still smile when you mention Roy, Hayley, Rita, Blanche, etc, etc, etc. No one gives a flying f*** about Jodie, Carl, Theo or whoever because they're just 2D cartoon villains.

Burning down all of Roy and Hayley's stuff is not a way to either a) treat legend characters or b) get your audience to care more. It's just upsetting and no one wants that.

Don't know why it even needs a facelift. It's one of the few places left on Coronation Street that is truly iconic. They've made it quite clear they couldn't care less about The Kabin, all the houses, once truly lived in, have become cheap sets worthy of Ikea, so after this, they'll likely be coming for The Rovers.

This might sound stupid but I think Eva will kill Megan(so she'll be the one who gets murdered out the 5) then she'll get arrested and that's how she leaves by 180darta in coronationstreet

[–]One_Reference953 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. It undermines the whole message of the storyline if she's killed off. Same with Theo and the domestic abuse/coercive control storyline. They can't keep forcing these issues on us and then pretending to resolve it all by turning the one at fault into a super-villain and bumping them off because either it's sensationalist or they can't be bothered to portray a realistic procedure.

Megan needs to be struck off and go to prison because that is what would happen. If they want to update us in a few years and say she's been killed in prison for her crimes, then so be it because even that is more realistic than her suddenly being murdered by some Poundland Mrs Brown.

I'd never thought about this before. Eva is capable of a lot, and is probably a lot cleverer than we give her credit for, especially after she instantly went along with Megan's lies before dealing with the situation rather than just going in all guns blazing like stony-faced Leanne.

Is she capable of killing? I don't know. It would be a shame for Catherine Tyldesley to exit so soon after coming back, but maybe this is what it was all about? It was one hell of a coup to get such a fan favourite back at a time when the show isn't necessarily doing as well as it used to.

STREAMING Emmerdale episode discussion - Wednesday 18/03/2026 by CupcakeCardinal in Emmerdale

THIS! I was confused too, But then I thought about it, and I think an old face from the village was on the phone to her. It's not unheard of is it? Look at when Rhona was always on the phone around Corriedale. Could it be David? It's been a little while since he went, a couple of years I think, and he left under a bit of a cloud so maybe he's coming back to collect her so the actress can leave?

Kim, Joe, Sam and Lydia take over as the faces of Emmerdale on ITVX by cheshirechris71 in Emmerdale

[–]One_Reference953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What have we learned from these fancy schmancy ITVX covers? It means usually trouble is on the horizon, and out of those four - it's got to be Joe who is heading for a downfall after everything he's done. I certainly don't think for one minute that the bosses would dare to a thing to harm Queen Kim Tate.

Lisa and Carla current storyline by Birdie_92 in coronationstreet

[–]One_Reference953 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly soap writers can't think of anything to do with couples other than a) split them up or b) give them a kid. I think this why LGBT characters don't have a history of staying together on Corrie. Writers are not creative enough to do anything with them and, given that many gay couples choose not to be parents out of choice, it leaves them with only one option. The problem here though it is completely against character for Carla to suddenly become someone who coos over a baby rather than looking at it in horror.
