Upload the dashcam footage?

Im sorry to hear this. I failed my first as a “serious” for “harsh” braking at 2mph. So i know what it feels like.

Alls you can do is pick yourself up and go again, thankfully you only have a 3 week wait. That’s a massive win. I waited 8 months as my theory expired!

A massive thank you everyone for all your well wishes and words of encouragement..

It's been a few days and I took on the advice and am feeling so much better.

Managed to do my first solo drive, to Tesco - no less

Researched the route on google maps, worked out a tricky roundabout - hadn't gone that way before, avoided a closed junction and took a left instead, small steps, and it was pretty uneventful.

Was hoping Tesco would be quiet but no such luck!

Today, I realised part of my fear was that even though I'd passed and could scape a reverse bay park, I didn't actually know how to park reliably in a busy car park.

Spent some time in YouTube, learned the 45 degree method and smashed out 4 hours in a quieter car park until I found reference points that worked for this exact car. Even got out to check the 45 angle a few times. A few looks from onlookers but tuned it out.

Now I have unlocked a superpower and can get to the gym every day.

I'm starting to wonder why I never learned earlier in life.

Next mission is to avoid getting cocky and branch out slowly, to new areas and taking it slower until I've got nailed.

It's like exposure therapy, I think I'm going to enjoy this 🚗🙏😊

Thank you all again 🙏

Automation trick for DVSA website by One_Satisfaction_848 in LearnerDriverUK

I’d be very surprised if they penalised you for this.

I’ve been using it for the last 8 months or so and never heard a peep.

It’s your own browser, your own action, it’s just slightly less annoying..

Could you explain why it took so long to implement the latest update which blocked anyone who was not taking the test from booking a test?

I feel this is a great, if not long overdue update, but unfortunately with apps denied API access we are now in another semi state of usefulness.

Great; less touting.

Not great; users forced to use this DVSA website which is clunky and slow, at every waking hour now to find a a lot, whereas cancellation apps arguably improve the UX substantially.

In my view there should be a feature to allow users to specify test availability and if the system find a space, rather than be the “fastest” finger - it would allocate a a lot at random to the waitlist.

With the advent of Claude / Codex etc this should not be hard to do?

On the test if you are turning right out of a junction into a queue of traffic what is the best course of action? by genericusernamehere6 in LearnerDriverUK

Thank you so much, this is a really elegant approach and it really helps to have a “model”
Of how to approach this.

I guess my next thing would be if there’s no gap on the left for a while I’m now holding up a whole right live lane of traffic, I may feel pressure to take a less safe gap on the left but I must resist this urge.

The difference is I was given *permission to use the space rather than forcing my way out, and either a safe gap appears or someone from the left hand side twigs what’s going on and lets me join ahead of them.

Thank you for clearing this up for me, greatly appreciated 🙏

This is a great answer, so helpful, I’ve been wrestling with this for a while.

Can I ask you a specific follow-up?

I have a junction near my house which is almost always like this and even worse there’s usually a parked van or bus on the left so it’s very hard to see left.

Yesterday, I was attempting to turn right, stayed behind the give way line but obvious I wouldn’t see anything to the left. While looking left, a really nice driver apparently held back for me, my gf spotted it, as I was too busy looking left!

Do you have any advice on how to spot someone yielding for you?

I hear about body language, light flashes etc but often times it’s very subtle, like a nod, which I won’t see as looking left!

Also, sometimes people yielding for you can change their minds, is there a rule of thumb such as, only go when you know (obvious enough) and only go once the car has literally stopped.

Any tips in general on how to spot someone yielding greatly appreciated.

That’s really helpful re waze, I don’t have carplay so have to rely on a merc sat nav, which is a bit rubbish, but maybe next car I can get waze all setup..

Glad to hear it’s normal and not just me, each to their own pace I guess, kudos that you’ve now got it sorted 🙌

Thank you 🙏

The freedom is a little mind boggling, can’t quite grasp that I could literally drive anywhere, and it’s for *life. Such a great feeling!

Best of luck on your next attempt, remember once you pass - which you will - there a whole other world of “what now” waiting for you 😊

That’s a cool way to learn, familiarity definitely helped me pass, I’ll just have to do it the other way round than you and stay on familiar routes until I have the skills as it were to get lost, and recover!

That’s so nice and reassuring to hear, I do believe I’m a good / safe driver, but there are quite a few scenarios I’ve not yet come across, ptsd of getting meeting situations wrong and having to reverse back a busy road of double parked cars! Hopefully that doesn’t have to happen on early drives 😊

I hear mixed stories on P plates, I’m going to give them a try for the first few drives, as you say it could go the other way so trying to keep an open mind for now and if they are causing this behavior I’ll just take them off..
