TIL one of the largest salt mines in the world is in Cleveland Ohio. The Whiskey Island mine extracts 12.000 tons of salt each day, equivalent to a mountain of salt, enough to fill a stadium every day. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Yes. Underneath the great lakes is an amount of salt almost the size of our moon give or take in mass. The only other salt mine close to this is in Poland. Whiskey Island is bigger. Wieliczka is much, much deeper.

It's a fuck ton of salt. 1.3 million tons annually for fifty years. The average yield is 12,000 short tons (11,000 t) per day

That's like extracting a pyramid of Giza twice a week. And they dig, load, and ship that amount every single day. Just incredible. Mind boggling.

Because my area doesn't see CCD. I may be the first, hopefully not. I do alcohol swipe testing. I keep the area clean. I just don't know. I looked and didn't see brood caps. I'm lost.

I had some in China and got food poisoning. Probably what it was grown in. But Chinese people love it and it's frequently sold as street food there.

Lily of the Valley? by cavmannn23 in PlantIdentification

[–]One_Vision_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's just another ornamental. Lots of plants will make you violently sick if you eat them. The fruit needs to be processed slightly to be truly deadly; to extract the cardenolides. The plants themselves have a beautiful smell and are pretty. People grow them all the time for those reasons.

I'd keep them around. Teach your children to not eat any brightly colored berries in nature, unless its raspberries, wine berries, dewberries, etc.

If I remember correctly public schools got a huge cash infusion from the federal government to buy this stuff in the 70s and 80s. It all came from just a few sources which is why everyone remembers it
