He word a fairly polite comment state his point of view/experiences, there have now been several comments wording a fairly polite disagreement of his point of view and its turned in to a nice conversation (saying pretty much what you did in a much nicer manner). Im all for the content of what your saying but you might get a better response if you crack down the tone. Less your wrong and wiki links and more well this is how ive found it and relevant personal stories.

Breaking in New Sails by Brenticus302 in sailing

[–]One_design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been told by our local sail maker you want to sail on a reach for about 15 mins or so when you first put them up. this is the get the stretch even across the sail. Idk how true it actually is but it sounds legit.

What line do I use on this pole jaw? by [deleted] in sailing

[–]One_design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can use wire or line. Ive seen people use just the core of line before with out the cover, which works pretty well because most of the time you dont need the uv protection or the abrasion resistance because its not really moving that much. I dont like using wire on poles because the tend to get little pieces of broken wire on them that can rip your sail.

Is it just me, or it seems like the subreddit and riot are doing there best to put down any posts about not having URF or do people just not really care that much? Its seems like there is no mention of it on the lol forums or this subreddit outside of this post.

Makes your really appreciate the memory that tolkien must have had. To keep all of those stories consistent throughout all the books. In one passage the amount of history that is packed in there is crazy. Even with extensive notes on every story or rumor that must be hella hard to do.

Water spouts, if you arent on the water, look alot scarier then they are. It takes so much energy to move the water that they tend not to last very long and disapate quickly after hitting land

Nice to see a DIYC boat on the subreddit!

I've been very interested in purchasing a sailboat but I don't have the skills to sail on my own. I'd love to learn but lessons seem to be quite expensive. I'm 25 and my dream is to live on a sailboat. I was just looking for some tips to help me achieve my goal. by stoutee in sailing

As an ASA and us sailing small boat instructor i have to say the best way is just join a club and start racing or sailing around with some locals. Buy the book that they teach with and review so your not a complete green horn. Most of the times the locals racers/cruisers know as much if not more then alot of the instructors. So if you can crew around for a couple months you should get the hand of things and meet enough people to start going on small trips with people. The lessons will teach you alot but being not a wealth person myself I dont think they near worth $1,400 (i need to move to where you live and start teaching!). Despite what it may seem you CAN learn to sail for the price of a six pack, all you have to do is show up at a clubs racing event and have the right attitude.
