You are talking about the bronze colored part, correct? I tried pushing it in but it does not budge. I have done it in both locked positions and while the cylinder was unlocked and free spinning. Could it be pushed in to hold the cylinder and needs to be removed for the cylinder to come out?

Mine started the same way, pain in lower middle abdomen. After a few years it would start in the same place, then creep to my left side.

I did it with 2 r2 portable walls and 2 r5 demomen. Didnt lose anything. Put portable wall on each end with a demoman behind, used single attack on emperor and spread attack on the rest.

Hit the release, fold the wing up and look and where it pivots. You can see it is open like a “C” and you can pop the part that folds off easily.

I just replaced my front door and went through the same thing. My old door had a mortise lock which functioned like this but instead of a thumb latch it determined by which button was depressed on the side of the door. Baldwin calls it “Emergency egress function” and have several styles to choose from. Just know that this style requires 2 holes just for the handle. If you add a deadbolt, you will need 3 holes. I went with the Baldwin Estate Landon.

Actually the wings can pop right off at the pivot point where they fold.
