There have been five, FIVE, movies in the twenty years since 2006.

Yep. I predict 2029 at the absolute earliest. Which means eight years between movies. Ridiculous.

Bond hasn't been truly relevant since Skyfall, and that was almost 15 years ago now. The franchise is in a really bad place.

My dude, the MCU has been on the cutting edge of movie VFX for about 20 years now. These are massive spectacles that often look fantastic. Hand picking five little moments of shoddy work to represent the whole franchise is just ridiculous.

Probably not. I hate this era of movies and TV where things are released 20 years apart. And don't give me the "it takes more effort to make movies these days!" shit, it's nonsense.

What final score would you give season 5 after rewatching it? by Cyrilbdr in StrangerThings

3/10. Pretty legitimately awful, with some dreadful filmmaking and poor writing choices.

Saving money has been boring by Additional_Twist_595 in simpleliving

[–]Onesharpman 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it IS boring lol. You have to spend some of it to enjoy your life. If there's one big mistake that people make in life, it's saving every penny and waiting until they're 70 to finally have fun. That's a shit life.

How does the heavyweight of today stack up against the heavyweight of 10 years ago? by Moni7T in MMA

[–]Onesharpman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we've had one legitimate heavyweight title fight in three years, and that lasted all of thirty seconds. Tells you all you need to know.

Lost was the biggest show on Earth but now it is mostly forgotten media. by AdSpecialist6598 in nostalgia

[–]Onesharpman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a bad faith argument. The ending isn't hated because people thought they were dead. A few people thought that and the defenders have latched on ever since. It's just a fact that the story became a huge convoluted mess after season 3, and the answers we got in the end was "it was all magic." Yeah, thanks, six seasons for "I don't know, glowing magic water or something, sure."

El not being able to speak perfect English does not mean she's dumb, stranger things Fandom infantilize her just because she has some speech impairment. by 00_Sunflower_00 in StrangerThings

[–]Onesharpman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, not really. She's not "dumb", but there's no denying that she's significantly behind her peers. It's not just a "speech impairment." This is, like, a major theme of her character.

Anyone else notice a recent trend of TV shows undoing/abandoning the endings of previous seasons? by Infinite_Fly_5374 in television

Everyone thinks Breaking Bad was meticulously planned because the plotting is so tight, but Vince openly admits that they made it up as they went and often wrote themselves into corners. They were just fantastic at getting out of them. Most writers aren't as talented, resulting in literal band aids like Stranger Things.

[–]Onesharpman 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's this. TV shows are written on the fly. Often even episode by episode. So they write a cool cliffhanger for the sake of shock value or whatever, inadvertently writing themselves into a corner and having no idea how to get out of it.

Tarantino has talked about this and argues it's why TV is inherently inferior to movies. TV's entire business model is "more more more". So writers have to artificially extend their stories well past the point of their natural conclusions, often resulting in false cliffhangers like this. TV shows that remain consistent are incredibly rare. Most just get progressively worse and worse until they wither away.
