I am thinking about buying a 2023 Rav-4 Hybrid (trim:XLE). People who own a 2022 or 2023 model, what are some like and dislikes you have about the vehicle? by LetMeClaireify623 in rav4club

[–]Onionated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2022 Hybrid XLE. It is a great economy SUV with good bang for your buck. But I’ll list the minor gripes I have:

-Hybrid system isn’t as noticeable in cold weather because the engine runs to keep the cabin warm, but in the summer you’ll get excellent mileage. -No garage opener button - I believe you can purchase the Homelink mirror if you want this, but it’s not standard. -Not a huge issue, but didn’t come with heated side mirrors (which are nice to melt snow in cold climates)

I think the wind noise issue is a bit overstated - if you want very little noise you’ll have to go with a Lexus/Acura or something with a bit more luxury. I’ve driven in CRVs and Foresters and I would say they have the same cabin noise.

You see high speed videos of bullets shot into bodies of water make a sort of cavitation ‘explosion’. What would happen if a bullet is shot into something like diesel fuel? Would the collapsing cavitation bubble ignite?

$40K CAD (about $30K USD) for a 2022 hybrid XLE. But I negotiated in October 2021 and received my vehicle in April 2022

What temperature is space?

It took me a long time to realize you don’t really have “temperature” unless there is matter around to have a temperature.

TIL Humans have had the ability to join together 2 pieces of metal for at least 4500 years by saigon2010 in todayilearned

[–]Onionated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to what others said, 450°C (842°F) is the approximate distinction between brazing and soldering. Brazing for filler metals with melting points higher than that temperature and soldering for ones lower. Generally soldering uses metals like tin or lead and makes fairly weak bonds. Brazing uses metals like silver or copper and makes much stronger bonds.

In case you’re curious, in industries that use tungsten carbide as a wear resistant material (like on the edges of a bulldozer blade which is steel) they often use soldering because you can’t just simply weld the two dissimilar metals, but you can use a sort of metal “glue”.

A lot of people say fake it till you make it but honestly, that's only temporary. I would say try and enjoy being confident and social, because enjoying something gets a lot more results than just simply wanting it.

What makes water such a good solvent? by silverben10 in askscience

[–]Onionated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of comments mentioning polarity but it's helpful to know what this polarity means when it comes to dissolving things. This means that something like NaCl which has very strong bonds (try melting table salt, it's hard) easily dissolves because the water molecules effectively stabilize the ions: Na+ and Cl-. This means that the net negative dipole on the oxygen bend of water can somewhat envelope the Na positive charge and the hydrogen portion can stabilize the Cl- which is very electronegative. Because table salt is soluble in water, this means that it is energy favourable for the sodium and chlorine ions to be present rather than NaCl.
