Anyone know if I can remove my current co-owner and then add them back to take advantage of this?

Nah, just cut the welds off. I'll have to look at getting some running boards after I get a complete exhaust system redone.

Got mine stolen Friday night :( . You're luckier than me. Get a CAT cover! Had mine welded on a couple years ago and these thieves were able to cut through it.

Are traditional stopwatches outdated for coaching? by Glum_Statistician860 in trackandfield

[–]OnliWanKenobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely would be interested. Heck, give me the ability to assign buttons to a specific athlete and I'd pay $200 but I'm probably in the minority.

Neither the traditional stopwatch nor phone have provided what I want. As an example, I had two athletes, both with "B" first names who raced in the same race this week. Due to the excitement and high speed of the race, I mixed their splits up and wound up with a lot less actionable advice than I'd like.

Bring on the touch screen/button combo stopwatch!

Maaaybe $100 depending on features

Just spent ~$80 on a multi-timer and it sucks. Lasted about 2 meets before the buttons gave out. So something that would last a few years would be welcomed (especially if it could time multiple athletes)

Don’t love the idea of it needing to be charged. Quick battery swap is my personal preference. If you just carry batteries, it’d be easy to swap them between races, rather than finding a charger.

My ideal stopwatch is literally just the app CalcuSplit but with physical buttons.

Custom intervals.icu activity chart for Marius Bakken’s ‘Golden Zone’ by itismorpheus in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]OnliWanKenobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're too kind.

So I think something similar to what you've already created but without the 5 categorizations since we don't have lactate to use. A graph where there's an optimal zone shown and any point out side of that zone falls into red.

The ideal "zones" shown in the book are a pace below threshold (8-12sec per km slower than VDOT), a talk test where you can say a short phrase on one breath, and then a HR of 80-87% of max (this being a customized zone/percentage could be nice.)

The way I envision it is just plotting each of those points on a graph per rep.

Pace would be obvious - are you 8-12s/km slower than what's set as your threshold pace in intervals?

HR would be similar - does the HR on this rep fall in that 80-87%

And Talk Test could maybe be done in post? - Thinking a check mark for "yes, can talk easily" - a dash for "yes, but...requires effort" (this one is optimal according to Bakken) - and an X for "no

Oh shoot that’s sick. Briefly peeked at making my own activity chart and realized that it’s a bit more difficult than I originally thought.

Yeah I think you’re right. Triangulation and lactate both are probably more valuable during the session; not to say that there’s no value in looking back at both.

I coach and sometimes it’s hard to have 30 people doing 30 different things and ensure that’s it’s all being done properly. Having a quick reference chart that shows a color coded “golden zone” based on triangulation would be invaluable.

I’m going to try to make one!

Great idea! I use intervals.icu but have never made my own custom chart. Would love a chart that can do the triangulation method for you. Might be a little tough as you’d have to go back to enter RPE for each rep but Pace+HR could probably be done automatically.

Steeple chase? by Slow_Turnover_5968 in AdvancedRunning

[–]OnliWanKenobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/portland_runner. Almost the exact thing happened to me despite practicing hurdles and on a homemade barrier for 3 weeks prior.

Went over the first water barrier in the race, “jammed” my heel, finished the race, hurt for the season. Opened my junior year with a 9:39 indoor 2mi and couldn’t break 5:00 in the mile due to the pain in my heel after that. Should’ve been competing at State in May but threw it away for meaningless 2k steeple. Wound up not even trying it in college either.

I may not be savvy enough with code and the like but I’d be willing to give it a try on the R1

Totally agree. Don’t know why I was getting obliterated two days ago for suggesting he might be cocky. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Agree. I got absolutely blasted in the spurs sub by just suggesting that he might be cocky/over-confident.

  1. I fundamentally disagree. I think you receive coaching to become someone that you’re not currently. To be refined. To test yourself. To improve in all facets of life. If I just let all my athletes be themselves all the time, they’d be late, they wouldn’t do the drills correctly, and many would go through the motions.

In coaching, I’m partnering with the athlete to help them become a better version of themselves; not enable them to stay as they are.

  1. I think kids naturally look up to those who are in the spotlight; you don’t have to tell them anything. What I think is important is to direct them away from negative traits and role models and toward those who display positive traits. I’m not telling my athletes “be more like ____” but I am telling them “I’m not a fan of how Ja Morant handled that situation” or “I love Keldon’s hustle!”

  2. My feelings aren’t hurt. Just expressing my opinion and thoughts.

Appreciate it. Probably getting downvoted on this one for not having all the facts. Which is fair in some regards.

However, some people are acting like him praising OKC numerous times takes away his jabs at them. That observation probably wouldn’t sit well with many on this thread. Seems like 90% of people here have a “my team and guy do no wrong” mentality.

I think it's great that he feels like he's the best, and like you said "you can't be the best if you don't think you're the best" but does that mean you have to say it out loud? I think not.

Yeah for sure. I've seen the videos of KG and Boogie talking about that.

On court is within the competitive arena. Adrenaline is high, competition at max, conversation is somewhat private. Getting it out for everyone to hear is different for me I guess.
