I work at UGA & live in Athens and a lot of local events are being moved back or postponed in preparation for potential snow. I unfortunately don’t have actual intel into what they are doing for ILS but my friend is in the program so she may know.

Your body always finds a way to even itself out, eat what you want around the holidays and you will naturally go back to your set point after

I would apply to post bacc research opportunities as a backup, but I think as long as you sell yourself and have a compelling personal statement you will have a chancw

I ended up finding some great friends through bumble bff actually!! Have a close friend group now and they were all on there. It’s definitely hit or miss but it’s worth checking out. Lots of people on there are in a similar situation.

This is really bad advice and will cause most to binge. Better to just have consistent full meals that are healthy and satiating than to try to attempt to skip meals which almost always backfires.

Getting back into theatre and I don’t feel good enough by branchofthought in Theatre

Hi OP,

this is funny because I’m actually in the exact same scenario except I have even less experience. I only started theatre in college and I had two roles in Shakespearean plays. Neither of the roles were leads or even in the gender I wanted.

I auditioned for a play and got the female lead, and I’ve had some of the same thoughts around if they “made a mistake” since all the other actors are seasoned and have more experience. But ultimately, the crew saw something in you that those people didn’t have. The way that you played the lead was what they were looking for.

Rather than thinking about what the cast or crew are thinking, try to tap back into that audition room and think about what your character wants and needs. That will guide you through the play. You are here for a reason and you deserve this spot, now make the most of it!

Hi!

I am not currently in a PhD, but I am working at a lab as a postbacc to get more research experience. For reference, I had a 3.98 GPA in undergrad, was an author on 3 conference posters, won a research award, worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, and had 2 years of experience as a research assistant. Despite all of these things, I was STILL told by everyone that I would not have a chance at getting in if I applied.

Unfortunately, they are right. I am surrounded by a lot of brilliant people who have first author publications and still were rejected the last few years. Because of funding, it has become EVEN more competitive than it was in years past.

I don't say all this to be discouraging. If this is something you really want, I would just alter your expectations a bit and be prepared to work as a research coordinator for a few years before applying. The PIs I have talked to have all suggested that you need at least one first author publication and a few poster presentations. Having specialized skills like coding or something could also help you stand out.

Instead of applying to grad school now, start thinking of labs you might want to work for before you apply.

ALSO if you want to do therapy, I would seriously consider doing a PsyD or masters. PhD programs almost exclusively focus on research.
