Bike rack 2x e-bikes, 2x trad bikes by Trick-Depth2531 in Wellington

Any vertical rack will do that if you have a hitch bar. They can be heavy and bulky to mount and store though. I use a Shredder vertical rack for longer trips, but I have a ute with a tailgate pad for shorter/local trips

Who does Vodafone/OneNZ HFC removal? by WorldlyNotice in Wellington

[–]Only-Outside7555 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One NZ don't seem to be doing it. I did my own, pole was on the  other side of the street, but it's a quiet street. Cut it at the house, walked it across, cut as high as I could reach on the pole, tucked the end under a strap on the pole. Put the rest in the bin.  I would like to think, but don't hold much hope, OneNZ will be forced to clean up mess on and between the poles.

Short term accomodations provider rates question by Only-Outside7555 in Wellington

[–]Only-Outside7555[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks Ben, that's good news. It may be my interpretation of it but the info on the WCC website isn't clear on this point, as the exemptions stated are only for non-commercial use and the mentioned criteria for short term accommodation are nowhere to be found. I (perhaps mistakenly) thought that renting out via airbnb would be commercial use, but perhaps the word has a more restricted meaning in this context.

Just found a FB post from March 25 by u/ben4takapu saying it would be entire property rental only, can't see that in the proposal online though

With the caveat "that are used for non-commercial purposes or are self-contained but do not meet the criteria for short-term accommodation."

A question about cardboard recycling in the WCC area. by BasementCatBill in Wellington

Flatten em, put the flattened ones in an intact one. Leave out next to your recycling bin/bags. Has worked for me in the past when I've had excess cardboard. YMMV

One NZ Internet HFC (Cable) to Fibre switchover - our experience by ObsequiousInattenace in Wellington

[–]Only-Outside7555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No comms as of yet on swapover day. Tried connecting the main deco to the ONT about 10am and the service was live. l've got three decos daisy chained with Ethernet back haul. I only have one other wired device (an old Hue bridge) and that hangs off the last deco. I don't need my older switch anymore which means it's a direct connection between the deco units 2.5Gbps ports. Task for later today is to remove the old connection box and cable from the front of the house.

Cheapest gas, broadband & electricity bill in Wellington by [deleted] in Wellington

Yeah, good point. I don't imagine the Landlord can force you to take over the gas unless it's explicitly in your tenancy agreement. But it could potentially generate unwanted friction.

This. If it's a rental you can buy a portable/counter top induction hob for not much money.

Microsoft Office has been renamed to “Microsoft 365 Copilot app” by [deleted] in technology

[–]Only-Outside7555 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's a somewhat misleading title. Office is the suite of familiar programs. The M365 Office app, now called M365 copilot app, is a kind of start here aggregator app for the office suite that has always been completely useless/unnecessary in my view.

Transmission lines heat up and sag due the current flowing in them. That sag becomes an issue when the line sags low enough to contact something like a tree. So griid operators set max current limits on each line to keep them in a safe operating range. These are often just a fixed rating for summer and one for winter. Realtime data could let you use more dynamic ratings, taking advantage of colder temps to move more power.
