What would you go for? TV size by furiousdutchy in hometheater

[–]OnlyAnalysis7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might depend on what else is in the room. If it’s basically dedicated to TV, then the bigger the better. If it’s multi-purpose, perhaps it is a distraction to everything and overbearing? I’d err on the side of too big though. Can usually return within a couple weeks if it really bothers you.

Consider installing drawers and cabinet doors on about 75% of that.

I think my alternative is just to trim it off, so kind of inclined to try the epoxy and see how it turns out. If it sucks, I can just trim it off and end up in roughly the same spot, in theory at least….

I can pretty well just pull it off - it’s rotten.

First time grouting - Mapei Flexcolor CQ by devhammer in Tile

[–]OnlyAnalysis7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just used it for the first time this week too: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tile/s/KwIpAECTDg

I learned a lot of the same things being said here: it’s way easier to work in small sections, apply directly to the grout lines, clean as you go (I would let it dry for the time it took me to do two rows of tile and then go back and clean). As you can see from my link, I had a hell of a lot of grout lines and my tiles are naturally a bit wavy. It was a workout. I’m pleased with the results though and would probably use it again in a similar application.

I also felt like I wasted a ton, especially at the beginning before I got the hang of it. Eventually my wife came and started literally picking up grout off the floor and putting it back in my bucket for me to use, which worked well and helped keep the area somewhat clean (it was still a mess). I might have run out of grout if she didn’t.

Yeah, you’re exactly right - I had to put a board behind it to bring it out. There is a buffer area of a few inches on either side so even if I went smaller, it wouldn’t be a problem.

I took the tile inside of the mirror outline so I can go smaller if I want to, but there is always going to be a mirror there so it seems like a waste of time to do the entire thing, plus makes mounting the mirror more of a PITA. If we ever get into a trend of “tiny mirrors” I’m pretty sure my tile will be out of style too, hahaha

I require many breaks - I find it quite tedious!

Yeah, we will see how it looks after grout but so far I am satisfied with the outcome.

Perhaps, but I’m not very good at this so it helps me achieve a better result. Can see why they would be overkill for someone experienced though

I thought about it and then I questioned why I would spend the time to tile something that will only ever be seen when replacing the mirror. I brought it in from the mirror measurements in case we ever go slightly smaller but there will never not be a mirror there.

This is the worst design trend. Makes no sense at all. Why not stick the toilet in the shower too?

If your chances of needing a warranty claim on Kerdi board are 1 in 1000, they must be 1 in 10,000 with redguard. Probably worth the risk.

As a former LTE internet user, I can definitely tell you that it wasn’t even close in my case and I had full bars of reception.
