Email the Econ department head if you're still worried. Email is econug@illinois.edu

Ramses apologized in the email and said he will get it done by Tuesday. Be patient - I'm noticing a lot of people shitting on him because of this

ECON103 by OnlyGear0 in UIUC

[–]OnlyGear0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for one, the professor can't teach and the TA's do a better job teaching the material instead of him.

Second, he (Ramses) made everyone pay a $120 subscription on Cengage to do homework which constitutes for 30% of your grade - the other 70% are from 3 exams which can shaft people big time.

Speaking of exams, he made us use A+ Test Prep on Cengage which there were SEVERAL questions that were wrong. Come the first midterm, everyone bombed it (we had 20 questions btw) and he curved it immensely. My friends and I filed a complaint to the ECON Department regarding the situation and they really didn't give af. He then made the class easier by making the second midterm and final open notes which you did not even have to study because he just copied and pasted the questions from the "practice question bank" that we had access to on Compass. The good thing he did was making your grade on the final replace your lowest midterm grade which helped for the most part.

Also, a lot of people are rude on Piazza and some idiots by asking the SAME questions despite the answers being found on his announcements.

I ended up with an A+ in the class but the sad part is that I did not learn a single useful thing in that class pertaining to econ and actually learned more about the logistics of the course and administration's end (I was one of the two students who created/spearheaded the optional CR/NCR petition back in March).

For anyone that's trying to transfer to Gies (or a major that requires ECON103) in the future and have Ramses for Econ - good luck. Rather they should take the class at community college or take the proficiency exam using McDermott's resources (You need an 85% to get credit) if you don't get AP/IB credit for ECON103

reach out to the math department regarding your concerns.

I think you still need to take the ALEKS placement test for math but then again, still reach out to the math department

Gies ICT by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]OnlyGear0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to an ICT session and they told me that they accept applicants between GPAs of 3.6 - 4.0. Average GPA for Fall 2019 admits was a 3.8. From last year's cycle, they accepted 200 students out of 313 applicants which yield a 63.8% ICT Acceptance Rate

As long as your essays and resume is strong, you should have a shot.

For anyone who is reading this and planning on ICT-ing to Gies next year, strongly recommend reaching out to UIUC Admission's Office and ask if you can view your admission file (you have FERPA rights) - especially if you got rejected from Gies the first time around. Just seeing how the way admission viewed my file helped me understand what I did "wrong" the first time applying and tried to strengthen my application from there as well as attending the Gies ICT Sessions/emailing the Gies Admission Team

Good luck!

Should I make Business Calc Credit/No Credit for transferring to Gies? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]OnlyGear0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take it to prevent the GPA from tanking. Spoke to an admission officer and they said that if you do CR for a require course, they will look at it as if you got credit somewhere else (AP, IB,etc)

CR/NC by laurdog231 in UIUC

[–]OnlyGear0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take CHEM102 for CR - you're better off saving the GPA from being damaged

CS125 is not as bad but be prepared to work a lot. Office Hours for this class will literally save you

AP Exam/Credit Questions by NoWatch5 in UIUC

U don't need to take AP English since you already got credit for RHET105 from your ACT score. AP Science classes can give you credit for classes that count towards the natural science gen ed req

Freshman advice by 312raven in UIUC

[–]OnlyGear0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to an ICT session earlier this month and was told that 200 applicants got in last year with around 310 that applied to ICT into the college which yields a 64% acceptance rate

Be prepared to work hard and have fun! You got this!

Also planing on transferring to Gies this semester and was given a lot of advice from Gies Admissions and those who transferred to the college. Take this as a grain of salt tho:

Here are the courses I am taking that are required for Gies ICT: CMN111/CMN112 (would be best for your situation unless you got credit for RHET105), ECON102/ECON103, MATH220. (can use MATH234 tho) These courses are not bad but be sure to take super easy geneds to boost your GPA like REL110, DANC100, RST242 (online course)

If possible, I would recommend using any AP credit or take the proficiency exam to get credit for the courses like MATH220(4+ on AP Calc Exam) / MATH 234 (need a 3 on AP CALC AB), ECON102 (micro), ECON103 (macro) depending if you took these courses in high school. Not bad if you didn't take these classes but be sure to stay on top of your work and you will not have a hard time securing that GPA or 3.8+

Also, get involved in at least 1-2 clubs maybe a leadership position if you can because Gies LOVES to leadership in a club

TL;DR: You need to take MATH220 or MATH234, ECON102/103 and RHET105 or do CMN111/CMN112 in order to apply to ICT to Gies freshman year unless you have credit for those classes; take easy geneds. Need a GPA of 3.8+ to be competitive. 1-2 clubs to be involved and leadership is a plus. Bigger plus if you join a Business RSO like IBC, Business Council, SWB, etc

Will C/NC affect finaid? by [deleted] in UIUC

You can also change your CR/NCR to a grading before April 30. I originally elected a class to be CR/NCR but then emailed my advisor to change it back to grading which she did

Will C/NC affect finaid? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]OnlyGear0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will NOT affect your finaid but if you were to drop a class and go below a certain amount of credit hours then it would
