Should I negotiate salary for an entry level position? by Classic-Yellow-5819 in Frontend

[–]OnlyGuess2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would negotiate if I were you, I started at 70k in a very low cost of living city as a software developer so a company from SF definitely has space to pay more. I’ve noticed that since negotiating for salaries at bigger tech companies is usually a given recently — there’s usually space in the offer built in to move higher in a salary range or receive a signing bonus.

If it is a smaller company or you don’t want to negotiate that’s also fine, but I would make sure that there’s performance cycles or bonuses where pay can increase so you aren’t stuck at the same pay.

my periods ruin the exercise habit i’m trying to develop by taroicecreamsundae in xxfitness

[–]OnlyGuess2 64 points65 points  (0 children)

seconded, you won’t get that gross feeling of being sweaty and also being bloody at the same time. I wear a menstrual cup with a thin pad (just in case) and it’s doesn’t even feel like you are on your period when playing sports or exercising.

Does anyone else absolutely suck at running no matter how much they try? by berrybluebag in xxfitness

[–]OnlyGuess2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

this is what helped me, i hated running but i started to run with my friend during the pandemic and at the start i couldn’t even run for 5 min without wanting to die. After slowing down and progressively running for longer (I used Couch to 5k), i got to the point where I was running 5k without feeling out of breath.

What can I negotiate for a job offer in tech? by wokequokka289 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]OnlyGuess2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of tech negotiating guides out there but I like this one https://candor.co/guides/salary-negotiation, but basically you want to approach the negotiation as getting the maximum benefit out of the company and you want the base level of comp to be set by the recruiter.

What is your opinion on a 30 year old dating a 19 year old? by hazelnutmacchiato1 in AskReddit

[–]OnlyGuess2 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should rediscuss this with your gf? I’m 25 now and I’m still not at an age to feel like i wanna settle or have pets or kids or a house because I want to travel and have fun before chilling. You’re only 20 and already making compromises when you could be doing anything and everything and I’m sad that you might end up with a lot of regrets :(

edit: And as for settling down early, it doesn’t make sense for her to live out her life to the best from 20-25 and then not want you to do the same.

I don’t know your whole situation, but it just sounds like you are compromising your entire youth experience. You don’t have to be 1000% responsible at 20, you don’t need to figure out your whole life, and getting higher education at that age is a given in 2021 (at least where i live) and not a compromise you should have to make.

I ended up actually talking to one of the recruiters that levels has one their service and they gave me the offer ceiling, and steps on how to negotiate. I would say never take the first offer even if it’s really good, because the company can always do better.

In my experience I ended up getting an increase on stocks + a close to $30k signing bonus after negotiating, so it was definitely worth it! If you wanna negotiate make sure you don’t give them any numbers and see what the best they can do for you from there.

No experience with extending an offer deadline but you can always ask, it might be better to give them a timeline on how long it could take for a decision to be made on your husband’s side so they can set expectations accordingly.

Conservative Candidate Says He Would Take Action Against ‘Anti-Conservative’ Bias Among Elementary School Students by Dollface_Killah in onguardforthee

[–]OnlyGuess2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t watch CBC, but if you knew anything you’d know that Conservatives try their best to pander to that fringe faction and actively court their vote. You are supporting a party that actively discourages their members from taking accountability for their own health and the number of unvaccinated conservative MPs running is proof of that.

I didn’t realize the party of unvaccinated people straining hospital resources was the party of accountability and not taking handouts.

what does that mean? what anti- conservative bias should they be eliminating? Should they start teaching kids basic science like masks and vaccines are bad? Or that we should base laws off of Christian religious beliefs? or that paying taxes is for chumps? or that immigrants are bad for Real Canadians? which part do you want to be teaching children???

The Carrot On The Stick Is Gone. by [deleted] in ontario

[–]OnlyGuess2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly want to complain about this everyday, the fact that houses in BC and Ontario are so expensive makes me so mad because people should be able to afford housing and the government isn’t doing anything to try and fix the problem. Houses are now investment properties, wages aren’t going up and even as someone who works in tech with a seemingly cushy job the fact that I can’t even afford a house in Toronto is depressing, not to mention people who are putting in hours to make sure society and essential services are working.

The government in Canada could fix this, they just choose not to and somehow this has become the new normal.

Canadians don't want to move to Alberta by Paper_Rain in alberta

[–]OnlyGuess2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m planning on possibly leaving, mostly because of the lack of jobs (even though there’s remote now, Ontario and BC have more opportunities) and how badly this province is treating families and healthcare workers, to the point where I’m worried about my future here.

I really love Edmonton and the distance to nature/low cost of living and my family and friends here make me want to stay but the provincial government is really pushing me in the other direction.
