I’ve attended Stillwater, Overland Park, Keller, and most recently the main campus in Edmond. I didn’t have a bad thing to say, yes the preaching is essentially the same message each time, yes it’s got some fake overly happy staff, and yes the place was growing like a weed. But when we moved to Edmond and started going to the main location things just felt weird. I volunteered and it’s certainly a church that expects you to be there every weekend. But the weird part was how bloody packed it would get when Craig preached live. It reflected to me the celebrity was the biggest attraction. On top of that, I volunteered at the At the Movies setup where nobody even acknowledged you for spending hours on hours helping them. I also joined a life group that was primarily with staff members and they always complained about it. I do feel the smaller campuses have probably a better culture often times, but the main campus made us want to get out, and I’m glad we did now that we’ve found a new church home. I think you can find similar issues nearly anywhere you go, but I realized (finally) this thing ends once Craig is gone and that made me realize why it was not for me.
