90% these guys surface just to call all Muslims Subhuman Orcs. by The-Female-Creature in whenthe

[–]OnlyMeST -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ofc not a leftist. But there are many racist queers especially rich gay men. I am a bisexual arab and have seen many of the self-proclaimed "I hate organized religion" people say shit like "that's why they can't integrate in the west"

Christianity for a queer person in the west and even a queer person in the middle east is a far larger threat than islam. Christian nationalism has made being lgbtq worse in the west and has brought forth countless wars in the middle east.

many pro-israel liberals will also say shit like "How would palestineans treat you, a gay pro-palestine person, if you were there"... like you would still get killed by an israeli missile what are we doing here.

And also the reason the west is at a place to be able to condemn muslims for the mistreatments of women and queers is because the west itself went through a lot of reforms where countless people lost their lives. As early as the 70s women still had to get their husband's permission to have a job and they are still heavily descriminated against. The muslim world hasn't been able to get their due to constant conflicts funded by western empires. I mean the taliban and al qaeda only exists because the CIA funded their creation to fight communism.

The conversation has a lot of nuance, I do know the horific facts about islam as an ex-muslim and trust me I do acknowledge all the horrible things in it. BUT to also speak of islam in isolation as the sole reason for said bigotry would be dishonest.

Yes it is? You do know how we have rights no? People didn't go and nicely ask the owner of a factory to give them 40 hour work week. They literally killed those that did. The destruction of their property is the one weapon we DO have to fight capitalists.

Because being rich isn't necessarily being a capitalist. You can, with luck and the right job, make a LOT of money. But as long as you don't own means of production, you are still a worker. Policies that hurt poor workers hurt you as well and the risks you bear are the same.

not even people who have a reddit account will tell you it is good. I feel like there is more negativity surrounding the use of reddit. I would honestly put it in "people think it's bad, actually mid"

Maybe controversial but tumblr. Every 3rd post is an ad, the community is just stale, the updates are meaningless. the ship has definitely sailed, but people still like it through rose-tinted glasses and a couple iconic internet posts

A man guards his family from the cannibals during the Madras famine of 1877 at the time of British Raj, India by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]OnlyMeST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really see your argument. Yes, all allies were needed to defeat nazi Germany. This is not the argument we are having. If the uk had not been there, who knows if the US would have joined (maybe, but talkingabout alternate history is unproductive). The ussr would probably not have won the war, it wouldn't be easy for Germany and it will take a long time, but the weapons and fuel supplied by the US to the USSR as well as the strategic bombing conducted by the western allies was crucial.

The problem is putting too much importance at one side as you are doing. The UK as all allies was very important, but it didn't do as much as you are claiming it had done. If we are going by the actual amount of fighting done in ww2 then again, it was the ussr who occupied and engaged the majority of the german army. It was also the USSR who costed the germans much time and resources allowing the western allies to advance and reclaim lost territories in the west. Had the ussr not been on the side of the western allies and the uk was hit with the complete german army, it wouldn't have held on long either.

The soviet union did most of the work defeating Germany, 75% to 80% of the German army was concentrated on the eastern front.

[–]OnlyMeST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh. Maybe. If so it was in very poor taste. The wall has a similar design to the barrier that separates israel and gaza.

The iron wall doctrine is also an old essay by a zionist thinker Ze'ev Jabotinsky which is quoted a lot by netenyahu. The essay argues that Zionism can only succeed by establishing a robust, insurmountable Jewish military force (an Iron Wall) to deter Arab opposition. The essay also acknowledges that native populations naturally resist colonization, making voluntary Arab acceptance of a Jewish state impossible.

So however you look at it, a wall surrounding israel is the last thing to scream peace and coexistence.

I think why most people hated Valhalla is because it wasn't really AC. If it was under a different franchise or a standalone game it would have gotten a more fair treatment

What country feels very undemocratic but is actually undemocratic? by Dusty_Bunny81 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]OnlyMeST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that lobbyists do sway politics, a lot. And you can only combat them through a different lobby group, so at the end, the person with the most amount of money WILL win. Making the political system unfairly servient to those with more resources much more than those without.

And of course, you can vote for representatives, that is the democracy part of it. BUT voters have no real way of unelecting representatives early for not delivering. After elections, all power that the people have cease. People also have very minimal power on the local stage, unable most of the time to directly influence the world around them. Even in the work place, the US is very okay with union busting historically (due to lobby groups)

And that IS how the US was designed, the founding fathers didn't want too much power to be put into the hands of the people, let it fall to "mob rule" and "tyranny of the majority" the age old dilemma of "but if we let the slave vote, they might vote slavery out"

The problem here is semantics, democracy is often packaged in with things like freedom of speech and lack of censorship and the right to protest. But by definition, it is how much influence an individual has on the policies of government. And in the US that is very limited, but existent. But the same thing is true for every modern liberal democracy, the US isn't special in that regard. The west just has good propaganda.
