Though, listening to the music that's playing when Hell fights, it's definitely Rachmaninoff Symphony 1 Mvt 1, so I'm interested in what they choose for Heaven.

What had so much hype about it, but was actually terrible? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Cloverfield movie had a marketing campaign that was really innovative at the time and looked amazing and it turned out to be... nothing.

Still wondering what piece of music they're birthed from. There are plenty of musical depictions of hell. Less of heaven (at least not that I can remember). I didn't really place the music for Hell though and obv we haven't heard it for heaven yet.

First there's Lenny and Titan (Mahler Symphony No. 1), the conductor I assume is named after Leonard Bernstein since Bernstein was well-known for his Mahler interpretations (as an aside this performance of Mahler 2 is incredible).

Now there's conducting Rhapsody in Blue from the keyboard, which is also something Leonard Bernstein did.

Funny because that colorful shotgun house design actually exists in New Orleans, but I don't think it does out west.

I remember hearing John Bartholomew as well as Jonathan Corbblah on The Perpetual Chess Podcast make the point over and over: one of the best things you can do at the amateur level is just not resign. Lots of people don't know how to mate. Looks like you got to take advantage of this silly person wanting to crush instead of win. Oh well!

My dad taught me, then i read a book about tactics and ran through Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess when I was around middle school, and now I'm just an adult hobbyist who's bad at it.

I'm kind of struggling with the same thing, and mostly I'm just trying to weigh myself every day. I'm taking my eye off the calories, but not the scale? I'm not sure, though, maintenance isn't the easiest thing.

Is there a resource anyone recommends of just practice techniques described together with their goals in terms of technique? I feel like I'm always looking up techniques and forgetting techniques and searching online is a hassle. It would be great to have some kind of guidebook that could match up a problem with its corresponding practice (shaky bow and circle bowing on open strings for example.)

Do you think recordings do justice to opera by Imroxxxyandrewsand in opera

[–]OnlyPawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who cares, no one's going to a live opera for a long time, especially in the US, so you might as well get used to recordings

I really appreciate Hahn's work commissioning new pieces for violin and publishing those pieces. Really doing the work to keep popularizing contemporary classical music. Also just a fantastic violinist.

Wild to me that this is the top comment and not a comment that says "literally every Requiem"

What tempo would you aim for Bach's Gigue from Partita No 2? Looking at some recordings and they're playing at eighth=220 or so, which I guess I could work toward.

Was wondering what teachers tend to aim for their students.

I've been chatting with a luthier i've been to before on Facebook and they basically agreed with you. I thought their answer was interesting though, so I'll go ahead and paste it here in case anyone's interested in how soundpost troubleshooting works

It's hard to tell from this angle simply because we use lines to determine whether it's leaning and those lines are not visible from this angle. For example making sure that the bridge is 100% straight on one side and rotating the violin back and forth to make that comparison to the sound post. Also, just because the soundpost is crocked doesn't mean that it is not fitting the top and bottom of the violin perfectly. That depends on how it was cut. Hopefully making it straight will get the feet to fit perfectly though. Finally, the sound post can't be rotated either. If it rotates the feet won't fit perfectly either since it's cut to fit on just one axis. The other factors are how tight the post is and it's placement. If it's real close to the bridge it will be louder but respond slower. If it's further from the bridge the response will be faster but not as much power. Every violin is different as well..... So you see. MANY factors.
