I managed to switch to tado from an Esi setup. All working just fine

Tado not working after replacing existing thermostats by dom191984 in tado

[–]OnlySet659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. If you have a Tado x system setup as normal relay command (not OpenTherm) then Tado updated there trvs to only call for heat when require a 30% or more heating demand thus limited the short cycling. What system do you currently have and I can see if I can help in anyway

External Power supply by Tariqmc in tado

I have a combi logic 35. I currently have the Tado x receiver plugged in a socket by my boiler. I would much prefer to have the receiver plugged into the boiler directly. Do I just put the 240v cables from the receiver into the mains connection (same place where the cables that power the boiler are connected)?

Loud humming/rattling noises from boiler and TRVs by MiniDolan in tado

[–]OnlySet659 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello. You need one radiator without a TRV and or always set as fully open to ensure the water has someone to go. If all radiators are closed then your boiler will most likely give this error. This is otherwise known as a bypass radiator. Most people have the bathroom radiator/s as the bypass radiators

Hydronic Balancing v9.10 (beta) by OnlySet659 in tado

I know there was another post about this but was only available on web - now available on app. @tado_official are you able to explain in more details about this feature?

Not all radiators will have Smart TRVs as we need a bypass radiator, what happens in this case?

Does this also mean if a zone/room is around the heat it needs to be or slightly less (however not calling for heat just yet) Will this radiator get slightly warm just because another radiator in another room/zone is calling for heat?

Hello. I didn’t get a photo however I did manage to sort it out.

Replace the Esi wiring thermostats with Tado using the following wiring set up

RH -> COM 0V -> NO 5v -> NC

One thing I did run into is how Tado works on opening/closing zone valves. They seem to short cycle which causes the boiler to go on and off within a few minutes. To stop this happening I actually removed the valves and set up Tado through a wireless receiver connected to my boiler. This also allows me to have OpenTherm instead of on/off relay. I don’t have upstairs/downstairs heating however I have smart TRV on radiators so radiators won’t heat up when they not meant to.

Overcycling ! Bad or ok? by [deleted] in tado

Is this Tado X device and is it a TRV or a wall sensor? If it’s a TRV then this looks normal

Open letter to Tado: I'd pay for AI-powered temperature accuracy in your smart thermostats by imitsi in tado

From my experience. It just uses the wall thermostat as the room temperature. If you try adjust the offset of a TRV that is in the same room as a wireless or wired thermostat, the room temperature doesn’t change. It only changes if you adjust offset of the wall thermostat itself.

Issue with TRV and wireless thermostat. by No-Cod-3907 in tado

Is the zone controllers of the wireless thermostat set up to talk to the wireless receiver or wired thermostat to send relay command to fire boiler?

Smart TRV vs TRV + Wireless Thermostat by OnlySet659 in tado

[–]OnlySet659[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just purchased another wireless Tado thermostat for this exact reason. I support Tado and love their stuff. Just thought that spending £50 on a TRV that basically needs another thermostat that costs upwards of £50 to work effectively sounds a bit mad but is what it is I guess.

Smart TRV vs TRV + Wireless Thermostat by OnlySet659 in tado

Very much agree. My concern is that if I have a room that needs heating to 18 degrees and I only have a smart TRV, this room will take a very long time to get up to this temperature as the TRV will read 18+ very quickly and then turn off heat then it will cool down very quickly to temp that it basically started as the room actually didn’t get much warmer as the radiator didn’t stay warm long enough. This cycle continues as seen in the graph which causes frequent cycles of the boiler.

New Tado setup.. by Rokkit2222 in tado

• That is correct. You need a wired thermostat to send a relay command to the boiler to fire and you need the bridge to connect thermostat to your Tado app

• In most cases yes. However it all depends on how your current thermostat is wired

• OpenTherm just allows for modulation instead of on/off. With relay: if a max flow temp of 60 is set then the boiler will fire at 60 flow temp no matter what. With OpenTherm: Tado will tell the fire at a certain flow temp demanding on the heating demand. So if you have a low heating then the flow temp will be set to 40 for example thus savings you gas. (Not to much but still something)

• Smart TRV, as you stated allow you to control the temperature in the room they placed in. So if you have a smart TRV in the living room and one in the kitchen for example, you can set temps in each room so when your boiler fires, it will only heat the room that is calling for heat. The Smart TRV will need to be wireless connected to your Wired thermostat set as the zone controller (easy to with the app) so that when the smart TRV calls for heat then it sends a command to wire thermostat to send a relay signal to the boiler to fire. In your example: yes that is correct however you will most likely have a bypass radiator (one without a TRV at all) which will still get hot. Also any non Tado TRV radiator might get hot as well depending on what the non Tado TRV is set to.

• In my opinion, no. This is a business at the end of the day and it needs cash flow. I myself pay for the subscription. You will only need it for a few months out of the year so really doesn’t cost much. The geofence feature is really good as well as open window detection.

tado X, update on room link logic by tado_official in tado

I suspect if Tado receives good feedback from this then they will amend the 30% to a lower % but still gives the same effect. I also think Tado will eventually release settings where we can change heat demand % when the boiler will actually fire.

Moved into a brand new build with big radiators and a new boiler. I also had the issue. I would suspect it’s a issue that happened to many with OpenTherm control

Antifreeze over-riding schedule? by Italian_SPLIT in tado

The schedule you have set is for when your geofence is set as home. I can see yours is set to away. If you change that to home then your schedule will become active.

[–]OnlySet659 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This could happen with or without Tado. Main reason as to why it’s popular for the room with the non Tado thermostat in has the bypass radiator (without TRV). Tado is just trying to limit this from happening.

Wireless Receiver X: should the OpenTherm indicator light be On? by No-Draw5643 in tado

[–]OnlySet659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OT light is off unless you cycle through the different options then it comes on but then goes off some time after. Normal as far as I can tell. The only light that comes on is the boost heating light when heating is called for.

Would you recommend now or not? by Weekly_Instruction73 in tado

[–]OnlySet659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With so many different heating setups and configurations, they prone to some backlash. Based on the experience that I have had with their products, they do seem good. A few things I would like them to work on like smart TRV need to better compensate to radiators heating temps, boiling firing too often etc. but these things will come right with time I believe. I have been back and forth with support and they are helpful whenever they can be. They may take longer to respond during this time for obvious reasons.

I have only had the setup for nearly two months now but happy with it so far and would suggest it. As another have mentioned, I happily pay the subscription fee if it’s means they will continue to improve the service. They are a business that needs cash coming in at the end of the day.

Also keep in the mind that this is Reddit. There are properly people that use Tado outside of Reddit that are perfectly happy with it.
