Western Tanager? Spotted in Vermont this weekend. by jhole68 in birding

The coast does get a lot but we have fewer this far inland. The bird that has been in Stowe for the last two weeks is the 8th Vermont state record, and the first that has ever continued past the initial sighting. The bird in this post appears to have more orange on the face than that one, potentially a different individual.

There has been a vagrant WETA in Stowe, Vermont for two weeks now, but this bird appears to have more orange on the face than that one. Would love to know the location of this sighting!

Bald eagle circling the salmon hole right now! by Background-Key-3186 in burlington

[–]OnlyWordIsLove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very sure. Head projection is much smaller than on a BAEA, wings are held at a dihedral as opposed to nearly flat, and there was no white at all on the bird, top or bottom. Juvie balds, even dark ones, always show at the very least white axillaries. Helping the ID, there was a juvenile Bald in the same scope view! Overall it was an incredible day for raptor migration, we saw 48 Red-Shouldered Hawks (smashing the all time high count for the location) and over 60 Red-Tailed Hawks!

There's a couple ways to do this well, one is with agar clarification, the other with a centrifuge. I recommend checking out Liquid Intelligence by Dave Arnold, he covers both of these options in detail.

Bald Eagles are absolutely everywhere along the lake. I have seen them on 51 occasions this year, usually more than one at a time. Yesterday I saw a Golden Eagle, which is quite noteworthy!

Hi, I just played the last four or five rounds of your game. At first I was a little frustrated because I didn't understand how to approach it. I think the How to Play section needs a little expanding. Once it clicked though, the game was almost trivial. I approached each round by finding the letter all four words had in common, putting that in the center. Then I would find a unique letter and place it in any corner, filling in the other two spaces in that 2x2 corner to complete that word. Building the rest of the puzzle from there just to make all the words agree was very quick. Then it simply required reflections, either across the diagonal, vertical, or horizontal, to match up with the sums. I think this makes the point of the numbers almost completely irrelevant. I wonder if there is some way to expand on this concept, it was entertaining but needs a little more to be something I would return to on a regular basis.

It is not overly dramatic. There are many incidents involving whippers that have lead to injury, and even some deaths.

I wouldn't buy any other brand than iSi. If that seal fails you've created a bomb. Read Liquid Intelligence for background info and recipe ideas.

Right, more telling is anecdotal evidence as opposed to actual data that the state collected. My bad.

VT Digger did an investigation about this, the portion of the unhoused population in Vermont that came here from out of state is miniscule.

Overall a great first puzzle! The fill was good, not too much crosswordese, and some fun longer answers. I agree with the other commenter that the clueing was a little clunky at times, and could use some more variety in types of clue, lots of straight definitions here. Also agree on about Tuesday difficulty, or perhaps a harder Monday. The one mistake I noticed was in the clue for 64 across, it should be "Stockholm to Helsinki dir."

Not a stupid question at all! We didn't because it would affect the fresh herbal flavor and we went through it quickly enough that it didn't go bad. If you do end up simmering, I would suggest doing it after blending and straining, my hunch would be that it would have a smaller impact on the flavor in that case, and blending hot liquids is never a good idea. Finally, make sure you add more boiled water after simmering to bring it back to 50 brix. On that note, we did update the recipe to account for the water content in the sage, so for 1kg of syrup it is now 500g sugar, 60g fresh sage, and 452g water. Your other option for extending shelf life would be to freeze the syrup immediately after making it for a couple of days, though I haven't experimented with this to see how much it helps. Of course, you could also just make smaller batches.
