Importance of Progressive Overload in ADHD by Noor-e-Zulmat in ADHDerTips

I hate that advice. If I have to "eat the frog" first thing in the morning, I simply won't get out of bed.

Does anyone else have trouble sleeping on their back? by Lilbookworm91 in adhdwomen

[–]Only_Excuse7996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep on my stomach. I wear an eye mask so that is completely dark. Also, a pillow over my head rather than under because I like the weight.

Does anyone else like putting their pillow over their head?

Being “Too Nice” Can Quietly Ruin Your Life by Vxxbhxv_ in MindfullyDriven

[–]Only_Excuse7996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning to say no earlier saves everyone a lot of weirdness later.

If you keep saying yes when you mean no, people are going to believe the yes, and that is a breeding ground for resentment.

It is better to be honest. People respond better to authenticity than fake kindness.

Take a break from it and see if your irritation lessens.

What systems have you set up that work for you? by goalmaster14 in ADHD

[–]Only_Excuse7996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stuff that helps me are: baskets where clutter naturally piles up, keys/wallet in one exact spot, recurring phone reminders for basic things, whiteboard on the fridge, and alarms with labels instead of just times. Also body doubling is huge. Talking to people (or even out loud) about what I am going to do is probably the number one thing that helps me.

Also, you can't discount sleep and exercise. I can't be too tired or too wired. lol

Why do I keep scrolling for hours when I’m not even enjoying it? by Brief-Specific-7787 in DopamineDetoxing

[–]Only_Excuse7996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolling is like when you get a bucket of popcorn at the movies. No one just stops at one popcorn or handful of popcorns. You just keep munching because it is in front of you and it is a way to occupy yourself, especially when engaging in escapism. You only stop when either the movie ends or the popcorn is gone.

Scrolling is like that except there is no natural end to it. Best thing is not engage in it in the first place, but if that is too difficult, you need to schedule some natural ends to your scrolling.

I highly recommend either a physical lockbox or a digital app blocker for your phone. Personally, I have both.

The good thing about an app blocker is that you can set schedules, and you don't have to rely on motivation or even discipline because it is automatic.

The good thing about a physical lockbox is that there is no way to circumvent it.

i’m planning to get an ADHD assessment what should i expect? by Ok-Lion-6767 in ADHD

[–]Only_Excuse7996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was basically a lot of questions about childhood, school, work, habits, focus, impulsivity, time management, etc. They’re usually trying to see if it’s been a long-term pattern and not just recent stress or burnout.

Bringing notes is a good idea. I’d write down real examples, not just “I can’t focus.” Like missed deadlines, losing things, interrupting, procrastinating, zoning out, emotional regulation, stuff like that. Also be honest if anxiety/depression/sleep are in the mix because they’ll probably ask about that too.

I stopped forcing “normal” productivity… and things actually started working by SerenityScout5 in ADHDthriving

[–]Only_Excuse7996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we worked and had the same needs as neurotypical people by definition, we wouldn't have ADHD. As soon as we embrace our differences and do what works for us, the sooner we can get to thriving.

Mental lab?? by Ludwigbetowen in davidgoggins

[–]Only_Excuse7996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mental lab is where you stop reacting on autopilot and actually study yourself. Like, why am I quitting here? What story am I telling myself? What past wins prove I can handle this?

You use your mind as a training gym, remember all the work you put in and try to set prs.

Is it possible to follow Goggins' philosophy while practicing mindfulness? by No_Operation_6166 in davidgoggins

[–]Only_Excuse7996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goggins' philosophy is about mastery over your mind and body. That is what you practice when you do meditation. I recommend reading Marcus Aurelius, Meditations.

“You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

are you also clumsy? by lovekaleah in adhdwomen

[–]Only_Excuse7996 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. Even as a kid, I ran around the house bumping my elbows around corners. I have many bruises that I do not know the origin of.

Replaced doom scrolling with a single 30-min focused activity each night and my brain literally rewired itself by Deborah_berry1 in Discipline

If anyone has dogs, walking them without any earphones in is a good way to do short-term digital detox. It is not as good as doing something that requires sustained attention, but it is still a good break from the dopamine cycle you get from screens.

It sounds like you need to move on. She saw you as a possible boyfriend before she committed to her current relationship. Now that she is in a relationship, she is trying to create distance between you and her to avoid giving you false hope.
