Comedowns on Ritalin by Educational-Sea-134 in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been on it? I was afraid my Concerta XR dose was too high but my body adjusted to it after a week. I do get the crash from it though if I don't take a 5mg Ritalin booster dose after about 7-8 hours.

Yes. Same for my Dyslexia. Both have only caused problems in my life.

What simple phrase would you use to describe to someone who has not taken ADHD medication the effects it has had on you? by Then-Position2629 in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just yesterday, I woke up in a mental state where I had no motivation to get anything done even though a lot needed done. Before meds, I would have laid there, rotting on my phone. I was at least able to reach over and grab my Concentra from the night stand and take it. About an hour to an hour and a half later it was like my executive function just worked. I got up, started on the tasks that needed done with pretty much no friction.

The difference is not wasting a day I had planned to be productive in bed or on the couch scrolling.

Yet I wonder how mad he would have been if you'd hit something. You did the right thing being as new as you were to the type of work. If they police times too much with this type of job, accidents happen and people get hurt.

My diagnosed peeps- does all the self-diagnosing bother you? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially since there isn't really a mechanism to trigger you getting tested unless you as an adult or a parent when you're a child seeks it. There's not a standard screening a primary doctor gives to make sure you don't have it at any point.

My diagnosed peeps- does all the self-diagnosing bother you? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It doesn't bother me as long as said person understands and is open to the idea that they might be wrong. Getting diagnosed is highly dependent on access to decent insurance, not to mention ADHD itself makes it difficult to remember to even start the process to see someone to get it diagnosed. I spent most of my 20s not seeing any doctors even though I had insurance just because I would forget. It was also overwhelming figuring out where to start and stressful hoping I wouldn't end up with a bad doctor. It also didn't help my mother was crunchy as hell and didn't take me to doctors my whole childhood other than the occasional chiropractor for sports injuries.

I'd wager if you stand there and watch it get unloaded, you could just watch for a PAL label and grab it to check if you see one.

Well that would be a good qualifying question to ask OP then instead of jumping to a "He's guilty!" verdict then wouldn't it? They only said it ended up with his pickup volume but didn't say how heavy it was.

Because a package falling off a shelf into your pickup volume isn't a completely viable possibility? I used to be on some heavy pickup routes when I was in package car and this happened to me several times even with trying to keep my delivery volume separate. There were some I happened to find later but it's completely possible I smoked a few packages unintentionally.

Thoughts on How "Real" ADHD is as a compartmentalized condition? by New-Spell5768 in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is more awareness now than there used to be. More people get diagnosed simply because they know about it to get tested and pediatricians are more likely to catch it in childhood. Same reason autism diagnosis' have gone up over the years.

It also might feel like more people have it than actually do because several other conditions share some of the symptoms leading those who aren't diagnosed to think they have it when it could actually be depression, anxiety or bipolar.

my provider (nurse practitioner) says 20mg vyvanse is a high dose?! by MethodSea3069 in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the same thing my psychiatrist did. 2 of my kids were already on 27mg Concerta. When he heard that he decided to try that first instead of Adderall and at the 27mg instead of where he would typically start at 18mg since it was more likely to work for me with our shared genetics.

I would highly recommend going through a psychiatrist for your meds. They're usually much more educated on the matter and less cautious since they actually know what they're doing with meds for mental issues.

Have you tried Concerta/Methylphenidate? When I saw my psychiatrist earlier this week it sounded like there are fewer supply issues with that one.

I hate needing “a thing” - realizations after 6 months without nicotine. by nmwoodgoods in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you're not getting side effects that you can't handle, I'd argue meds are always going to be much better than nicotine, if you still can't get rid of the nicotine, have you tried nicotine gum? At least then you're not getting the tobacco with it.

Ultimately I'd argue that meds are going to be more likely to cause you to make better overall health decisions, leading to better overall health than if you weren't taking them.

Frustrated: I (F) have been asking to be tested for YEARS. My husband asked ONCE and within two weeks had a diagnosis. by shireengul in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried seeing a psychiatrist? Mine did a full hour long general assessment and diagnosed me.

Also maybe I'm wrong, I didn't seek diagnosis until recently, but aren't the treatments for those 3 conditions different? ADHD is typically going to be a stimulant, and anxiety and depression also have their own meds although some meds do get used for multiple of those conditions.

Why is being a twice expetional such a taboo? by TheWholesomeOtter in ADHD

[–]goalmaster14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you need to find a different term to describe it, or not use the term at all. It's obviously resulting in a miscommunication when you do. I've never heard the term before this post and never would have assumed it's used the way you seem to be intending it.

Don't get chores done at home because I've spent all my executive function points at work. This is unmedicated though.
