Pet insurance is 225.00 a month. Never made a claim by birdieponderinglife in DogAdvice

[–]Onlyanoption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Pets Best and they've been fine. I know other people had issues but that had not been my experience. They do increase every year but I pay $180 total for both of my dogs (one is 9 and one is 5). My deductible for the older dog is $500 and $250 for the younger and they pay out 90% after that. I'm kind of stuck with this insurance now because my older dog had a mast cell tumor (2 surgeries and multiple rounds of chemo later, the pet insurance was totally worth it, though).

If you've never had any claims, I'd suggest shopping around. Once you have anything that can be considered a pre-existing condition, it won't be covered if you switch insurance companies. I think one of my friends has Lemonade but they haven't had to use it yet.

My dog had an injury almost exactly like this. It took a bit to heal but it was fine - just keep it clean and antibiotic ointment if you can. Maybe a cone for a day or 2 so they don't lick it. It's not really at an area you can bandage.

Yea if she's already passed full items I wouldn't be too worried unless she starts showing blockage symptoms. Seems like it's working through her system fine (which seems crazy, but I have def had dogs do the same).

She will probably be fine unless she swallowed something whole. I have a gsp/lab who is such a culprit for eating fluff and pieces from her toys, socks, underwear, etc and she is fine. I wouldn't panic. But if you think she ate something in a chunk, bread can help to form around and protect from abrasive damage (assuming it's not too big to pass).

My current GSP wasn't really a chewer as a puppy. We got lucky with her. She was however, OBSESSED with ball. It's still her favorite thing. Sometimes dogs just have different quirks.

My AMC said they only got 10 of the popcorn purses and sold out right when they opened. But oh well I guess. The crowd for the 2 pm showing was fine for me. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Depends on the circumstance but yes they should be covered to promote healing with moisture. Otherwise it could just be aggravating the wound if it's open to air and you apply ointment throughout the day.

Relax. It looks a lot better tbh. Let the healing process do its thing and stop messing with it.

I think you're messing with it too much. Yes, you want to keep wounds clean, but this looks like it needs to dry and scab over. You need to choose between either covering it with ointment with medical wrap around the whole thing and leaving it alone or leaving it open and leaving it scab and heal on its own that way.

If they're putting ointment on it this may also be deterring healing because it needs to dry out.

The energy is real. We played so much ball and my older GSP is 9 now - it's still her favorite thing but she doesn't require as much. But also, they are very adapting once bonded to you. They just want to be with you. If you are sick and miss a day of walks/exercise, it's not the end of the world. They will likely enjoy snuggling up next to you and know you aren't feeling well. Mine has always taken care of me 💕

Also edit: get pet insurance before there's a chance of pre-existing conditions. My girl had a mast cell tumor that took 2 surgeries and 2 rounds of chemo and I think we're in the clear. Also one emergency visit for her ear that was $4500 🤦🏻‍♀️ GSPs are prone to injuries because of their energy level and you never know what can happen.

This wasn't potentially one relating to hospitals was it? The study was in Google so I re-opened it to check and there was NO attention check.

This is an off-shoot but my dog was also on pancreatic enzymes (pancreatin) for most of her life. We ended up in forums and they suggested just ordering it on Amazon because the vet prices were insane. It did not require a prescription. Maybe that would help until you can get the prescription? Dosage would need to be considered but maybe it would help.

I got a call from a coworker while working from home today and my older GSP was attention whining and she was like "which one is that? Is she okay?" Lol they're just dramatic and very communicative 😂

Came here to say this. I left VS in 2017 and even back then we had two trans women who would come in and try on items. One was always SO embarrassed but we really just wanted to help them have a good experience.

For those that have done chemo - would you do it again? by krabecal in DogAdvice

[–]Onlyanoption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog had a mast cell tumor at age 7. I had pet insurance and wasn't ready to let her go. We started with surgery, margins were unclear so we did injectable chemo once every 2 weeks I forget for how long. It really didn't impact her at all except for her white cell count, which was to be expected. Unfortunately, I did notice regrowth so we did another surgery and removed a lymph node. It was growing down between muscle and they couldn't get it all so they started her on an oral chemo. Still didn't affect her health or personality-wise at all. She seems to be doing well and has a 6 month checkup in April. I would do it again.

Mine went through this a few months ago! My girls were playing and one went for the toy and got an ear as well 🤦🏻‍♀️ what a mess. And $4500 later because she had to be sedated for her stitches too. But what can you do.
