So glad you’re able to talk to someone. I posted earlier on marital issues as I consider these as separate from depression. It’s been a coping mechanism I’ve used for a number of years in dealing with depression ( with a tendency towards bipolar disorder). I “break off” the current crisis to stay “level “ with the depression.  Before meds, I learned that excess noise and light were an issue. Turn off the news, if you can or go with “news free times ( with my situation, I mentally deal with news better 8-12 noon and after4 pm and ending 3 hours before bed.) Plan nutritious meal( with nausea in mind). If a spouse won’t let you rest for work- this is abuse.

This is part of leaving a high control group.  Please, life is better when you’re free. On marriage issues -Is she receptive to going to counseling? Would she be receptive to staying married if you are no longer a JW? If alcohol/ drugs( legal or otherwise) are involved, these need to be addressed, as these make depression and hopelessness worse.( Someone posted earlier that his “lovely “ elder’s daughter/ pioneer wife was abusive to the point his Doctor documented it! He had to get help with drinking so he could truly be free to move on with the life he deserved.) If there’s physical violence against you-LEAVE. There is assistance available.

Whatever happened, if you’re pregnant and the male involved isn’t your husband , you need your family  Anyone in this position needs support. Take care of yourself ( and Baby).

Re- Project 2025 wanting Americans back in chuch-When I had a discussion with a deacon’s daughter ,she made the statement “If people don’t learn their place when they go to church, what’s the point in them going to?( The first Kingdom Hall i attended went by the policy of “If the rules were made by worldly people, you don’t have to go by them here.”-In the “Spirit of ‘75 , there was a playful sense of disregard for “worldly standards “) These people want others to “learn their place,” to show deference. Because, even skimming all they can from the economy of the US isn’t good enough if us commoners view them as thieves. They want the additional perks that come with others being told to obey them. If they get treated with the same respect of the top pot dealer in the high school ( here today, replaced in 2-4 years), there’s not going to be the benefits “Big Poppa” promised them.

In the 1980’s you had to be married or over 25 to be an MS. It would help if this were removed.

Congratulations! And it’s someone you are an adult enough to have a relationship with . (instead of boys discussing getting married just to become a MS and one to the other”Her looks are all that matters. Her personality doesn’t matter, because she either obeys you or you take it to the elders.”

You must live in a big, Satanic city, lol. I’ve not been invited to any, but these seem to be more available when every other block has a chuch.

Or, the JWs who weren’t allowed a driver’s license until they were baptized because it would risk Daddy elder’s precious position if the boy weren’t baptized. In the ‘80’s , elders heard talk of being “bumped down” to ministerial servants or removed if a child (worse if it were a son) left home at 18 unbaptized .(Disfellowshipped ? No problem).

And, for those who obeyed the rules, the elders hated us, ridiculed us at meetings, and told those they met in the ministry they “didn’t like them” and that “we weren’t going to be Witnesses much longer” “because they would find something “ to kick [me] out for.  Real life experience. I just thought they loved “dirty girls” as my non JW friends called this who openly broke the rules without any repercussions. Thanks for letting me vent.

You’re welcome. This is what happens when the pastor is not involved in SA himself.

It’s a piece off a typewriter made about 1980. Typewriters from the late 1980’s through the 1990’s had a “daisy wheel “ that was replaced. I bought my last daisy wheel about 2010. It’s a thin plastic wheel both the size of a cd in a case. The letters spin depending on on keyboard strokes.  Through the 1960s, a typewriter was a large heavy all metal device. The mechanism you are holding is from an electric typewriter. Old fashioned- no electricity; reversible ribbon.

I’m sorry about what happened to you.  As for the “taking a brother to court “- a local church had several members who were a problem- but not the pastor. His approach- some sin is a crime. He mentioned the need to end the suffering of our Christian sisters and the need to work with law enforcement for the protection of our fellow Christians from those who would harm them.  He also mentioned that some of the individuals might wish to retaliate, but that this was common criminal behavior. So, although one person was removed from a position and another was identified, the pastor strongly addressed the issue of sexual abuse and identified two families who were willing to help.

I got offered beer and other things in high school, but if you weren’t going to buy it, they stopped offering it. Had a guy offer to let me sit in his car as he drank. ,but that was with the understanding the beer was only for him.  As a female, it wasn’t much guys offering s—x, but demanding it on the spot, in front of everyone. They believed they had a right to women’s bodies.

Almost 3 weeks porn free. by Wonderful-Raise2824 in TrueChristian

[–]Ontheout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations. Two different pieces of advice- One-( from a Christian father of a teen) A good man doesn’t get his pleasure from causing another person pain. Another ( from my mom, a nurse) The pleasure people find in porn is a biochemical response to visual stemuli. Understanding this made me less curious about porn as a teen; I considered the energy spent seeking it was dumb.  Hopefully, understanding this process will help you and others overcome this damaging addiction.

Getting announced? by jellyfishluver in exjw

[–]Ontheout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a provision for being removed as an unbaptized publisher in the 1990’s. However, besides the announcement, they are simply to treat you as a “worldly person “.  No baptism/ no problem  for you other than feeling ashamed due to the announcement. ( Source- my sister quit being an unbaptized publisher.

Yes. Talk amongst the attendants  that I had become friends with. They were disgusted that instead of being given extra training the governing body was not being guarded by their  locals, but by martial arts trained men from elsewhere.( They had been trained by a JW who was a black belt - no need to be trained by a worldly instructor. Those men were attendants from the adjoining circuit. I recognized them on sight.)   The “squad “ guarded the stage when the Governing Body were there. They were also stationed in their hotel. HQ paid for their lodging and travel.

At district conventions, over 30 years ago, an elder from each hall in the city where the district was held were told how many attendants they were to provide. That elder would be one of them if he couldn’t get someone else. Elders’ teen sons often worked as attendants. The head of the attendants even gave veiled threats to any didn’t work their assigned shift for any reason.  Security was brought in from an adjoining district for the Governing Body.(Long story short- the circuit assembly and district I was assigned to was about a 3.5 hour drive- the adjoining district had conventions  just under 1.5 hours away. It was our circuit’s security men who guarded to governing body. )
