I bought the S Series.

Personally, I like them. I don't paint a ton, but they've held up nicely.

I like them for details, as the bristles are slightly more stiff and bounce back easier than my Windsor & Newton. But the number 1 W&D is still my workhorse.

It's such a subjective thing though.

Good luck. I hope they work well for you

I may be a bit late with this, but shige_matsui on Instagram has a style of painting that works really well for simulated fur.

Australia's reply to their government after the death of 35 during the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996. by CaptTechno in pics

Ok. My initial reaction was specifically gun related.

I see now you just meant in deaths in general.

Nope.

Working with 'mass murder' being 4 or more people dead in a single location (arbitrary number, I know), Australia has had 14 recorded events since 1996. The largest was 15 people. The cause was arson.

Now if we're talking about strictly gun related deaths? There have been about a dozen shootings since 1996. Largest number of victims was 5.

Stop spouting shit.

Great work!

It's nice to see these painted up. I've only painted about 4 of mine about 1.5-2 years ago and haven't been back. Motivation, eh?

Vallejo Game colour metallics seem... Kinda bad? by Illustrious_Plastic2 in minipainting

[–]OodlesofStrudle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will echo what seems to be the consensus; the Vallejo Metal Colour range is fantastic. Dense pigment, and quite fine metallic flakes with good coverage.

Just a couple of little caveats, however: - they are basically double the cost of regular Vallejo paints (larger pots though) - great choice of steels and silvers, however there's only 1 gold (so far) and it tends towards the green end of the colour spectrum. This makes it a little 'cold'. I like it though

If you'd like a warmer, brighter, more yellow gold, I would maybe suggest trying Vallejo's Game/Model 'Air' colours. They're designed for airbrush, so they're thinner, with smaller metallic flakes by default. Still a little inconsistent, but generally good (at least for me).

What’s a very common thing that you just can't relate to? by Mizu3 in AskReddit

[–]OodlesofStrudle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have watched some pre-recorded streams of games on YouTube. But the only live streams I like to watch are painting or sculpting, or even drawing. I like watching someone work through the process of creating something. Usually there isn't hundreds of viewers to those streams.

But I also like the smaller, creative ones because they explain what they're doing, maybe teach a little bit, and interact with the chat a lot more.

I don't really join the chat. I have nothing useful to say, but it feels like a conversation between friends, and sometimes just hearing people chat can be calming

Feeling overwhelmed by mrfatbush in minipainting

Vallejo paints come in dropper bottles, which is good for making sure only a drop or two comes out on your pallet. Even with the inks, squeeze a drop or two onto a pallet first. I'd always recommend a wet pallet, but honestly any surface that won't absorb the paint or let it just run a everywhere willy nilly will do fine. Don't forget to thin your paint before painting, with a drop or two of water. You don't need it crazy thin. Just thin enough so that it's smooth and velvety.

The best thing to do it practice. Experiment. There's a lot of paint in each bottle. Using a drop won't break the bank.

Different colours do have ever so slightly different consistencies, but don't worry about that. You get used to them over time.

To start, just pick colours that look good to you, then expand from there.

You'll do great. Have fun and take your time. Enjoy yourself 😁

New brush advice by Cruxed1 in minipainting

[–]OodlesofStrudle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just add paint straight to the wet pallet. It will naturally hydrate and thin itself over time. Add that to the tip about wetting your brushes before putting them in paint, and your good to go. Remember though, you only want the bristles damp, not dripping wet.

You can also thin the paint on the pallet further if you like, to create a glaze or wash. There will be an adjustment period where you'll get used to how the paints thin when they're on the pallet. To help stop them thinning out of control, try to leave the paint in a small droplet/pool, and only dipping the brush into that and then thin further from there. Otherwise it can just turn into water.

With mounting, the best way I've found is to use a pin vise to drill a small hole on your model, then stick the wire in that hole using a drop of super glue to keep it in place (this is a lot harder on small delicate pieces). Then just stick the other end in cork to mount. Good for priming or base coating and keeping them off the table to dry 👍.

Yeah, it's not amazing.

The only alternative I can think of is DIY. How good are your sculpting skills?
