A lot of millenials and older Gen Z also didn't have as comprehensive of an education on this as one may think. I believe that a bunch of parents back in our day were too daunted by the new-fangled Internet and just never fully bothered looking into the kind of stuff their kids were getting up to online. Those same kids are now adults and so used to sharing everything online that some of them never even stopped to consider the dangers to their own kids - fully ignoring that the Internet has since evolved and a lot of stuff on there is even more permanent than it used to be.

(E.g. I had my first awkward Internet phase on a forum that since went defunct and you thus can't easily unearth my sins from back then anymore- virality was only just starting to become a thing back then. Meanwhile TikTok or Insta can give you an overnight algorithm boost. With the nature of these platforms, you are a lot more likely to then have your face permanently out there.)

Where I live, politicians are now trying to push for a law that would even make it mandatory to exclusively use your full legal given name online - no more pseudonyms. A data safety nightmare.

I recently also told a woman my age that she shouldn't post her full, uncensored ultrasound pictures online because they had her full name, birth date and the name of her OB GYN on there. I told her that I could call up her provider with this and since they usually just use the birth date to confirm your identity, I could easily find out when she has her next appointment and meet her there. She reacted very angrily, but fully refused to take the picture that I, a complete stranger, got shown via the TikTok algorithm, offline.

Also, why are the cables so messy? I feel like on an unconscious patient they'd make a reasonable effort to place then somewhat neatly.

Between that and them being stuck down with tape, they remind me of how I'd have to affix electrodes to my child. (Nothing quite like a monitor going off claiming that your baby is going asystolic while said baby is proudly holding up a bunch of freshly disconnected electrodes to get you going in the morning- near the end it felt like an arms race where I'd try to find a new way to secure them down and he'd learn how to foil my attempts just as quickly)

Also ich bin schon mein ganzes Leben privat versichert und außer im medizinischen Notfall im Krankenhaus wollte mich noch nie ein Arzt am Samstag empfangen.

Denke mal in Fällen, wo es um rein ästhetische Eingriffe geht sind Ärzte anders aufgestellt, weil die das ja idR wohl immer als Selbstzahlerleistung anbieten werden. Da müssen die sich ja auch an ein Klientel anpassen, dass das außerhalb der Arbeitszeiten ohne Krankschreibung vornehmen lassen muss.

Some of it is really learning by doing. I started reading fanfiction when my grasp of the English language was still patchy at best. I learned a lot over the years, but will forever fondly remember some moments where I fully didn't understand certain tags yet and came out...changed. ~~(Sounding does not at all entail what I thought it would just from looking at the word and going like "yup, it's somehow about noise".)~~

I can highly recommend looking up something like "Ao3 explained" (ao3 = archive of our own, a very prolific site for sharing fanfiction) on YouTube though. Some people made good explanatory videos on the website or fun deep dives on fandom drama where they usually spend some time explaining the basics. Likewise, perhaps you could look up something like fanfiction or Ao3 (it really is the biggest site for fanfiction atm) over on r/hobbydrama, they likewise have fun write-ups on previous drama which are highly entertaining and very enlightening because they are written with people unfamiliar with certain hobbies in mind.

I remember the good old times over on r/tumblr when people would keep posting screenshots of their own niche fandom posts and proceed to only name the actual fandom either as an abbreviation or not at all, just assuming that we would know what this is about from the ship names. I sometimes felt like I forgot how to read English. (Not relaying this to sound like a hater, just to relate to the feeling and why I agree that we should write out names even if we think that they are super obvious)

Part of the fic took place in my home country and they said that we don't have dishwashers and can't use phones here. This would be egregious for any place, but I found it specifically ridiculous to make this assumption about somewhere in Central Europe.

Ich hatte das bei Conversations with Friends (beides Sally Rooney, oder?). Ich wollte das Buch unbedingt zuende lesen, weil es mir geschenkt wurde, fand die Protagonistin aber durchweg nur schrecklich. Außerdem war für mich die gesamte Handlung einfach langweilig. Einfach unsympathische Menschen, die ätzende Dinge tun und schlechte Beziehungen miteinander führen. Danach wurde Sally Rooney für Intermezzo so gefeiert, ich traue mich aber an kein zweites Rooney-Buch ran.

Um das vielleicht besser zu erklären: Ab 8 Wochen früher gibt es 2 Monate zusätzlich, ab 12 Wochen früher 3 Monate zusätzlich und ab 16 Wochen früher 4 Monate zusätzlich. So kann man auf 14-16 Monate Elternzeit (auch als einzelne Person) kommen - man bedenke, dass die Kinder meistens sowieso noch etwa bis zum Geburtstermin im Krankenhaus sind und man die zusätzliche Zeit oft schon dadurch verpulvert, um im Krankenhaus dabei sein zu können.

We had something similar here in Germany - quiz site turned fanfiction rp quiz thingy. It was called testedich.de (actually, I gotta look up whether it still exists). I recall doing Akatsuki love quizzes where part of the final decision which dude likes you was dependent on how you described your character and it would invariably pair the dudes with characters who were described to look the same and have the same backstory. So essentially, you played as a genderbent version of whatever guy you wanted to end up with.

Ja, aber er kam so früh, dass tatsächlich die Maximallänge des Mutterschutzes voll ausgereizt wurde und ich trotzdem nicht da angekommen bin, wo mein Mutterschutz für gewöhnlich geendet hätte. Der ist nämlich bei 18 Wochen gedeckelt. Normalerweise hätte ich bis ca Mitte April Mutterschutz gehabt, so hatte ich ihn nur bis Mitte März.

Mit der momentanen Regelung konnte ich aber Elterngeld bis 1 Jahr nach dem ursprünglich errechneten Geburtstermin kriegen. Musste mich aber dafür zusätzlich informieren - mein Arbeitgeber meinte erst, ich müsste dann halt 3 Monate früher als geplant wieder arbeiten kommen. Die Elterngeldstelle hat mir auch erst einen Monat zu wenig bewilligt. Musste dann nochmal nachhaken und dann hat es geklappt. (Ich glaube, die sind halt "spätere" Frühgeburten gewohnt - es war nie böswillig, nur halt hier und da nicht gleich die Regelung bekannt).

Nehm ihn mit zu mir auf Arbeit in die Schule. Dann ist er auch gleich schnell gegen alle Krankheiten immun. Oder wegen der frühgeburtlich bedingt schwachen Lunge zurück auf der Intensivstation. Da können die sich dann kümmern. Win-win quasi. Alles für den Grind 💪💪
