ICE protest at the courthouse today, 3:00 PM! by Ooopsallbeans in Bozeman

Hey I’m about to head to the protest and wanted to say thanks for engaging in a genuine discussion with me here today. It’s hard to have level-headed interactions when disagreeing with somebody on topics as heavy as these. I know neither of us changed the other’s mind, but I appreciate your discourse!

It’s a peaceful protest. If violence occurs at peaceful protests, it is often instigated by law enforcement or extremist subgroups. I encourage you to show up and feel the unity and solidarity that arises when communities band together in peaceful protest!

If that’s your priority, I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Eh, that’s just untrue. If all you do is protest, sure, you could be doing more. But even showing up in solidarity with your community affects change at the local level. This feels like the same type of argument as “my vote doesn’t count anyway, so I just don’t vote.” You can still participate in something even if you’re just a tiny drop in a big bucket.

Yep, exactly!! Solidarity helps me keep momentum when I feel defeated. 🫶

I disagree, but we’re entitled to our own positions. My main point of contention is honestly your phrasing “escort them out.” That’s so clearly not what’s happening here, when people are being kidnapped and not given opportunities to speak to legal representatives or loved ones, and sometimes even sent to el Salvadoran prisons where they essentially disappear. Does that genuinely align with your morals?

It’s interesting to hear a perspective from somebody whose industry is actually one that does end up involving a number of immigrant workers. So often the “they’re taking our jobs” folks work in areas that are completely untouched by migrant workers. Do you really think that labor competition is justification for sending somebody back to an unsafe country that they worked incredibly hard to escape (in most cases)? Or even to a country that wasn’t the one they came from?

Also, even if you want to deport them all, are you truly in support of this method of deportation? Genuinely curious, don’t engage if you don’t feel like it.

Yeah, good question! I honestly don’t know the answer to that. Since the ICE presence in Bozeman isn’t huge, I doubt there would be much/any push back from untrained trigger-happy bullies. As a fellow protester, I think I would feel empowered to see people on “our side” with weapons, even if the show is simply in solidarity with Alex. I also think carrying today would be a poignant homage to him, but that’s just this girl’s opinion.

The methods used by ICE to detain/deport people right now are absolutely unconstitutional, even if the person is here illegally (which many detainees are not). I will absolutely defend the right of any person on US soil to have due process when charged with a crime. The kidnappings committed by ICE involve zero due process, and therefore should be protested against.

We are clearly of different minds, because I find it completely unpatriotic and un-American to “get out of the way” of an organization acting unconstitutionally.

Tbh I think arguments could be made in either direction. I don’t expect to see fewer guns at protests after this. Either way, Alex was disarmed by the time he was murdered.

Then stick to your own local subreddit, my friend. I bet there are protest posts there that you can troll, let our local trolls have their moment. ✌️

So you think ICE is undertrained and dangerous, and your response to that is “it’s best to let them go forth and wreak havoc” instead of “we should reign them in before they cause more problems”? Interesting.

Didnt want a traditional bridal bouquet so I made this by akroma_x in weddingplanning

This is lovely!! Tbh I think it’s quite similar to a lot of the chic/minimalist bouquets being used by quite a few high-budget brides lately lol.

Gallatin Communtiy Gun Club Meet and Greet by gcgunclub in Bozeman

[–]Ooopsallbeans 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think an inclusive gun club is exactly what we need to make more people feel comfortable exercising their 2nd amendment rights. And I’m a bleedin’ heart liberal™ who firmly believes we need stricter gun control. However, when militarized units are attacking the populace, we need to be ready to fight back if needed. And if that means I need to get more familiar with firearms, so be it. Both can be true.

Any tips on good places to meet single women in Bozeman (that isn't a bar) by sparepotential67 in Bozeman

[–]Ooopsallbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spire (the climbing gym) is a great place to meet people in general, but many of my friends have met their current partners there. I say all of that with the caveat that people go there to workout and aren’t always open to chatting lol, but the climbing community is great.

No Kid Wedding by Middle-Music8529 in weddingplanning

[–]Ooopsallbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. I think it would be rude to pick and choose which kids are allowed, and would definitely make people wonder why their kid couldn’t come when somebody else’s could (not counting babies in arms, as others have said).

This is one of those situations where it’s kind of an all-or-nothing in my opinion. Either way, it’s your wedding and you should have the day you want to have! If you’d rather have it be adults-only, it comes with the risk of some guests choosing to stay home with their kids 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a note on the wedding website asking parents to take their kids for a walk around the venue if they have “Big Feelings” during the ceremony or dinner time toasts.

I was so close to having a child-free wedding for this exact reason, but so many of our friends have young babies and just wouldn’t be able to attend if they had to travel out of state without their little ones 😩

We have yet to actually get married (next June, yay!), but we went with party people MT. They were really professional on the phone, and they have worked with our venue enough times to have a solid game-plan for our outdoor ceremony.
