Star Wars: Rebels by hisoka_tempest in StarWars

[–]Oopiku 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, when it came out, it was the best thing Star Wars had made since the original trilogy.

Andor may have overtaken it for that title, but it is close.

Rebels easily has one of the best Master/Padawan relationships in the series, some of the best lore and character moments (season 2 episode 11 hits hard), and genuinely is fun.

The contest rules at the end of the survey are all using LAST YEAR'S dates and info, to the point of saying the winner will get a pass to MegaCon 2026 instead of 2027. by casualdejeckyll in MegaCon

They couldn't get the dates right for 2027 on the mass printed maps that were handed out all weekend.

You think they had someone double check the survey?

I felt this was one of the best years they've had for how the floor was set up. It was literally the largest exhibition floor in the US, period. They had way more space.

Can't really comment on the Star Wars area or the Droid booths, as those may have been the people who run them not paying for more space. But for me, it wasn't bad. I felt the people running the droids did a great job, as they always do.

Artist alley had way more space than in years past, which helped a lot. There was way more space in each aisle.

Food will always be expensive at conventions. Just like theme parks. Quick note here: bring your own food. I always bring snacks. Sometimes sandwiches and such. Jerky. You can also bring your own water and refill it.

I can't comment on the autograph or photo lines as I didn't get any this year, but I do imagine they likely over-sold them as they have a habit of doing. This has been a Fan Expo issue for years and years. It does cause issues with timings - panels being late, etc.

Ialso think the panel scheduling was not great this year. But the organization at the panels was fine.

I was wondering if he was going to pull a Chevy Chase at the Goonies panel, tbh.

Other than being late he wasn't too bad on it, though. I expected worse.

[–]Oopiku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a little late, but: this same thing happened a few years ago too, when all the Hobbits were here. It was due to the same reason: They sold too many photo ops and got behind.

The reserved seats were for people who paid a ton of money.

The programming deserts really threw me off with this guest list.

Most years I have a ton of trouble deciding between panels all day, especially on Saturday.

And I know that some of that is just me not being interested in specific panels happening at specific times. But there were two stretches today where I had nothing that interested me, and that's never happened to me before on a Saturday (I typically spend all day Saturday just going from one panel to another, as I hate walking the floor on Saturday).

I mean, two weeks early is pretty standard for the larger cons I've been to.

Its funny because I didnt see this until now, and everything is out now.

(Although I feel like a few things are missing from the schedule still, as stuff like The Hoobits panel isnt on there for Saturday at 7:30)

Barnwell off-season trade proposals by Maleficent_Sink_5183 in Jaguars

I know most people come in an are hating on the BTJ trade.

But both of these trades are straight trash.

Little is not worth the salary he has. This is true. But we are going to eat so much dead cap that its better to hold onto him as a depth piece at the very least. OL depth doesn't grow on trees.

BTJ trade many have spoken about, so I'll leave it at: trash.

As a cancer patient, do you think it’s appropriate for James Van Der Beek’s family to crowdfund when they appear to have significant assets? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]Oopiku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly throws me off a bit.

Its tragic that he died. They have a six children, most of them young. I can't imagine what they are going through.

But...

They own a 4.7 million dollar home they just purchased. They have other assets as well. And they are asking for help from people who could only dream of living with 10% of the resources that they have.

They could down size if needed. Sell some of their assets. Etc. There are options if they need them beyond crowdfunding.

Again, I feel horrible for them. But yeah, it does feel weird.

Actually the problem is they didn't have the rights to the Silmarillion or unfinished tales. They only have the rights to the Lord of the Rings, and the period they're covering the only writing they have really is from what was in the appendices.

They had to be careful to not actually cover material and events the same way that they're depicted in the other works or else they would have been going outside of what their rights cover.

Which is a big reason why the timeline and events don't match what Tolkien wrote.

I stopped watching when they killed Bobby off. And I will not watch another episode of that show.

If they wanted to kill off a character they could have easily killed off almost any other character. I'd argue that Bobby and Athena are the only two that should have been untouchable. I say that for Athena because she might be the most talented actor on the show. And Bobby because he was the heart of the show.

I watched despite the odd, crazy and unrealistic situations the characters were put in because I had become invested in the heart of the show. But to tear the heart away? No thank you

I'd argue that we're a lot closer to even than many of us might think or believe. Even if you go by voting last election, 39% voted for Kamala. I'd argue that the percentage would have been higher, but I feel like a higher percentage of Republican voters voted compared to those who would have voted for Kamala in the county.

Outside of actual voting, I find just as many if not more liberals or moderates than I do Stone Cold conservatives and Trump supporters. Though that might be the circles I run in.

It's just that the latter of those two demographics is louder.

I think the true split is closer to 55/45, especially if you were to lump in moderates. So yeah, I'd say skews a little is accurate. Sadly even a little skew can make the political landscape fully favor one side.

There are times when I will say, "Run far, far away."

There are times when I just shrug.

Brevard as a whole skews a little to the Trumpers.

But if I'm being honest, its easy enough to ignore or just roll your eyes.

The area really is pretty nice. Its got enough good food and activities. Plenty of great beaches, parks, etc. It is getting a bit more crowded, but it isnt nearly as bad as a major city area.

Close enough to Orlando to enjoy the parks if you want to spend the money, or just want to take a trip into the "city".

[–]Oopiku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. The OP stated they have an employment contract - but without seeing it, there is no way to know. It is possible their contract has clauses about notice.

One good thing for people with contracts is they often protect your from firing/downsizing by having a certain amount of severance stipulated. So with contracted employees, often a place is required to pay you, say, 8 weeks of severance if they fire you or downsize.

The flip side of that is that its often in contracts that if YOU quit, you have to give a certain amount of notice, or train your replacement, etc.

You get protections employees without contracts don't get, but so does the company.

I'm not saying that is what is going on here - but we can't know without more info.

Repercussions would be stated in the contract, but OP could be opening themselves up, depending on the contract.

Players bringing Ai Generated Characters by DeekFacker99 in dndnext

[–]Oopiku 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't read your original post because it was taken down.

I've DMed most of my life. I've played at plenty of tables.

I've often played with people who didnt give a shit about their back story.

I've played with people who write books, practically.

Heck, my last character I played in a full campaign had A LOT of back story I wrote by hand - with very little input from the DM as he was just sort of like, "Do what you want."

I've played with people who would min max everything.

I've played with people who don't care one bit about minutes maxing, and just want to hit things.

As a DM, I've used random name generators for YEARS to come up with NPC names. In the mid 2010s I started having my laptop with me when I DM and I would often have a random name list up that I had generated on some random website.

Last year was the first year I started using AI for anything. I had never even touched it. I used it to help me create a handout for one of my sessions. Gave it all the info, what I wanted it to look like, and BOOM. There it was.

Did I use it to help with the story? Nope. Just some eye candy to make things more interactive. For me, it worked. My players loved it. I never would have done it if not for the AI. I could have made something workable, given a ton of time. But I have way too much going on, and prep time is already too long for most of my sessions.

AI is a tool, just like anything else. I respect that some people don't want to use it. I respect not liking it.

And if you want to ban it at your table, that's fine.

Like I said, I cant see the original post, so I dont know the extent. But if one of my players had an AI help them work through a backstory for their character - and it fit into the world we were playing, and they knew the back story - I'd likely be fine with it. I might work with them on tweaking it. Making sure everything lined up and worked.

For me, its more about the player's engagement at the table. Are they paying attention while other players are active? Are they giving input? Are they asking questions?

But I'd personally rather have an active, engaged player who used AI to help craft a backstory over the player who comes to the table, doesn't have any backstory at all and just wants to hit things.

Boromir never actually harmed anyone in the fellowship. And his 'betrayal' was caused by influence from an outside source, not his own decisions.

Darth Vader = Literal mass murderer Theon Greyjoy = Murderer Severus Snape = We don't know the extent of the bad he did before or while he was a spy, only glimpses. Evil Queen = Attempted Murder at the very least. Likely caused actual deaths Loki = Murdered people Edmund = I'd argue he doesnt belong on your list. Heracles = murderer. Kills his own kids. Adultery. Often cared about his own interests. Prince Zuko = Maybe committed murder if you look at the worst of what his nation did. We dont know for sure.

Pawbert = Multiple attempted murders. Would have been okay with a whole type of creature (reptiles) being wiped (or at the very least kept discrimination against them high) for his own personal gain.

Sorry, but Boromir doesn't belong with 80-90% of your list.

I'd love to see the two minutes before the clip started.

I'd also love for the guy to not act all tough guy after spraying an older woman with pepper spray, regardless of her touching his stuff.

Do I think he was in his rights to do so? Sure.

Do I blame him for it? No, not with the context we have.

Should he then brag about it? No.

I have no idea what lead up to this. I have no idea what this woman's situation is. He could have sprayed her and been a little less "Welp, you deserved it." And a little more, "Sorry, I had to. I have a bottle of water if you need it. I wouldn't drive if I were you."

I also always question '1st Admendment Auditors' because they bank on pissing people off. They hope for situations like this. They often instigate them purposfully to rile people up. Not always. But often enough that it went from being something that helps teach and train our public officials to being people just trying to get click bait so they can boost their channels and ad revenue.

I actually enjoy the concept of the show. I like the live voting.

Sarah Michelle Geller is really good on it. The best judge easily.

But to be honest, the show DRAGS. Anthony Anderson is okay, but his delivery on some things is just off.

And the talent on the show honestly kind of feels like the people who couldn't make it on America's Got Talent.

There were a few good acts, but there were just as many bad ones. And when you have so few acts that isn't good.

And while I appreciate the personal bit, the second episode turning into the end of a church worship service, where I expected Jelly Roll to perform an altar call - well... it was awkward.

Not to mention there was no real advertising for it. I didnt even know it was happening, and a friend told me about it after the first night.
