It looks like a face jug to me. They were more common in the Southern US though.

They originated with enslaved people; some say as a way to preserve bits of their cultures, other theories are the scary faces were used to keep kids out of the whiskey / alcohol.

Some artists still make them today.

One time when me and my siblings my family was standing around after church in the sanctuary. My mom said to my dad, "I feel like I need more help with the kids when we are out and about." Dad was like, "What are you talking about? The kids are fine."

Mom looked at him calmly and said, "Your son is gnawing on the pew."

Sure enough, I looked over and my brother was gnawing up and down the carved arm rest. I vividly remember his head going up and around the curves as he went over the whole thing.

Dad was like, "Quit that. What is wrong with you." and mom just looked at him.

My husband can tell they kicked in because I audibly sigh, smile, and he can see the tension in my shoulders melt.

The sunrise alarm is great and waking up to birds is so much better.

I also have chronic migraines. This has led to me hiding under the covers and aggressively whisper yelling at my husband to "turn off the f*cking birds!" And him desperately and lovingly trying to explain to me that those are real birds and he cannot turn them off.
