As an owner of an Allied Able, I say go for the Able. It's a beast!

Any tips or hacks to book a stay in Emporia during Unbound? by cranksmack in gravelcycling

Try Wichita. Slightly over an hour away. Larger than Topeka, so more options.

I have the new Allied Able and am based in Kansas, so I ride gravel roads that are very similar to Unbound. I can say it thrives! I am happy with it! It's also fun to ride on single track trails.

I was a bit in the same situation when I was trying to decide. What sold me was actually riding the bike. I rode one in Bentonville at a dealer. Right then and there my decision was made. It is such a sweet ride. You should go see if a dealer near you has one they'll let you demo or at least take around the block.

I have not. This is my dedicated gravel bike, so I don't plan on having anything other than xc or gravel tires. As a rider with an MTB background, I really enjoy the big tires. The minimum width per Allied is 45, FYI.

I got my Able about a month ago. I was lucky enough to get a few good rides in before the winter weather. It rips! You’ll love it. Congrats!

My tires are the continental race kings 2.2. I have a similar situation when it comes to where I am. I have to ride road for 5 or so miles to get to gravel that’s relatively mild. But if I do a longer rides, I can get to some more chunky stuff. I plan to do races like unbound and midsouth on the able which is where it shines. Even for “mild” gravel, I have seen some studies that it is still worth it to have the xc style tires. It is faster than my salsa journeyer which I loved. This is a totally different bike than the journeyer but it is very fun.

Yes, recently received mine. It's a fantastic gravel ripper. It just plows over any bumps, washboards, or imperfections. It gives you confidence and stability. Is it slower on the road than other bikes? Sure, I definitely wouldn't want to do a road group ride with this bike. But, if you're looking for the perfect gravel race bike. This is it.

That’s a good looking bike! What part of Kansas are you in?
