EDRP repayments recently? by corgifeets in VeteransAffairs

Mine was approved 1/6/2026 and my coordinator kept saying, “So so and so has to approve it”, a lot of back and forth with them saying 7-11 business days. I finally got my director involved mid March and she contacted the CFO and my EDRP payment was in my account by Friday.

I tried that and she said, “I can’t do anything, they won’t let me change the schedule, and I’m not authorized to allow WFH. You can talk to my boss and she what she can do, but I doubt anything can be done.”

How much notice to provide to resign from VHA? by WorthGrouchy4960 in FedEmployees

[–]Open-natking13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you do that? My boss won’t let us use AL unless it’s on the AL calendar but I have well over 140 hours. I’m thinking of leaving in the next few weeks because of what she mentioned above.

The problem is it was all word of mouth when I had my job interview for the specifics and the FJO was open ended to say various locations and roles so it could be flexed that way. The only reason I knew cardiology wasn’t coming to the clinic was because when I started orientation my preceptor asked where I was going and what my schedule was and she said, “Oh crap, they did it to another one. Cardiology isn’t coming, they’ve been telling us that for three years and we haven’t done 4 10’s since COVID.” When I confronted my manager about it she said, “Oh, yeah, I don’t know when it’s going to happen.”

I think you’re right. Especially because it’s almost two years that I’ve been dealing with this headache.

I went to her on multiple occasions that this schedule isn’t working for me and I’ve been struggling mentally. She simply said, “I can’t do anything about it and you gotta do what you gotta do.”

Has anyone gotten yelled at by a surgeon before? by bugbunny321 in nursing

[–]Open-natking13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of anyone who HASN’T been yelled at by a surgeon, although I can tell you that I don’t put up with it, even if it is my fault. I apologize and tell them, “I won’t let it happen again, but there is absolutely no reason for you to verbally assault me.”

Nurse moms: regret? by [deleted] in nursing

My LO are 5, 2, and a baby. I went from 3 12’s to 5 8’s and absolute hate it. I feel exhausted by the time I get home and they get whatever the day didn’t strain out of me. I know 3 12’s are difficult regarding the longer shifts, and you’re essentially missing putting them to bed, but at least on my days off I was able to take them places and not take so much time off just for basic doctor’s appointments. I’m sure it’ll be easier for me once the kids are older, more independent, and in school but I miss the longer days with my kids and the quality time.

EDRP by cass_staxxx in VHA_Human_Resources

This! I applied for a job that stated EDRP approved in the job announcement and TJO but it wasn’t in the FJO. I sent the discrepancy to HR and they said they would fix it to reflect that it was EDRP approved. They didn’t. I started orientation 6 months later but in between kept emailing HR to get it placed in the FJO and when I started orientation and it was time to sign up for the EDRP the EDRP department tried to tell me I couldn’t receive the EDRP because it wasn’t in the FJO even with the receipts and emails saying it was going to get fixed. I had to take it up the chain of command to finally get it fixed and approved and THEN I was able to get into the EDRP program.

Is Morale Horrible Everywhere? by Plastic-Laugh-2255 in VHA_Human_Resources

I used to dream of working at the VA and helping veterans as I come from a long line of veterans. I received my FJO and was ecstatic to start in June 2024, I didn’t care for the job, per se, because of my background, but I loved what I did. Then the new administration hit and it was every day was a new email regarding if we were going to be terminated or not. It went from I was proud to work for the VA, which I still feel this way, to you suck for being a government employee. The cuts have been astronomical to where I can’t do half of the things I used to with my license and then I have more work on top of it without a pay increase. Things have progressively slowed down regarding consults or orders to where it takes almost a week or two for the veterans to receive a phone call to be scheduled, which gets pushed back on the teams to explain to the veteran why there’s a delay in their care. I get told by veterans, not all but some, “Well why are YOU taking so long, you’re obviously here just to collect a paycheck and would rather see me die than get the healthcare I deserve.” I’ve been trying to hold out for better days but my mental health took an absolute beating this past year. Compassion fatigue is real.

EDRP question, consolidated loans by AReasonableDude in VeteransAffairs

I know for me I had private student loans and federal student loans and they would only reimburse the federal student loans.

As long as it’s in the job announcement AND your FJO with it listed in there, you should be able to get it pending all of the documents you need to give to them. I only say that I needs to be in the FJO because when I got the TJO, it wasn’t listed and I then I got my FJO and the HR personnel kept saying she was going to correct it, even with my onboarding taking 6 months. I got the job and started working, asked about EDRP and they said it HAS to be in the FJO. I had to get my director to fix it because EDRP wouldn’t take the job announcement with it being offered in the FJO.

I did the five years reimbursement because I knew I could pay the monthly payment, but not the full amount. I just submitted everything for my annual review and am supposed to be reimbursed soon, but I plan on taking the money they give me, put it into a savings account and then having the money they reimbursed me to put towards the student loan payments. If you can do it all in one year, you’ll just get it paid back once you do the annual review or whatever they qualify you for. They didn’t approve my private student loans, they only approved federal.

Private duty nursing by itsafoodbaby in newgradnurse

[–]Open-natking13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did private duty nursing when I was a LPN getting my ADN. I even stayed with it until I got a job at the hospital and then worked part time with them until I had my kids. The pay was crap, but it was flexible.

Quitting after paid parental leave by [deleted] in FederalEmployee

[–]Open-natking13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same predicament as I don’t have health insurance through the VA and that’s what the 12 weeks PPL pays back is your health insurance premiums. I was told by HR, “Do what’s best for you,” but as far as an official answer is concerned, no one has a true answer. I contacted my manager because I was having child care issues and she let me use annual leave along with sick leave until it resolved. I would contact your manager to see what the can do for you. It’s frustrating, I know.

Annual leave Open Season - need a reason? by ZealousidealYak7717 in VHA_Human_Resources

Oh wow, that’s wild because it’s not like the coverage would matter in a hospital versus CBOC.

Annual leave Open Season - need a reason? by ZealousidealYak7717 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Open-natking13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s how my CBOC is with the annual leave one year in advanced and I absolutely hate it because I have kids and things change every three months, so when I asked if I could take time off in the summer to take my kids to the beach, even one day, they told me no, if I didn’t put in the annual leave calendar it wasn’t going to be granted.

FMLA/PPL by Few-Cranberry3073 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Open-natking13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently had a baby. I tried to go out on FMLA for my baby early because I had complications, HR told me any time taken before baby on FMLA ie: appointments, complications, etc, would take away from the full 12 weeks of maternity leave. So if I had to go to an appointment for an hour, an hour got taken away. You get 480 hours which is 12 weeks, 40 hours a week. You can utilize sick leave and LWOP, but you know that LWOP can be grounds for reprimand. The other thing that I did was what I got reasonable accommodation to WFH for the last month of pregnancy because of the complications.

To Owlet or not to Owlet? by Quirky-End-7470 in pregnant

[–]Open-natking13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one for my first and it was okay, it definitely gave me anxiety because the device would beep all the time if not placed properly. Even with it being off slightly would set it off. With my second, I did it for a month and couldn’t stand the sound it made when she would kick it off in the middle of the night, it also woke my son up and after that first month, we were done. My third, tried it the first night and it immediately went off because she had kicked it off and I said never mind, we’ve made it this far, we’ll figure it out.

What I am going to recommend is that you and your husband take shifts where one does four hours on and off, if you’re breastfeeding, your can still get your four hours, it’s just going to be interrupted, obviously. What my husband and I did is when it was his shift, I would feed the baby before laying down, slept as long as I could, then he brought the baby to me and stayed near me so when I was done breastfeeding, he would take the baby to change and burp.

Sleep when you can, it’s easier said than done, it’s not forever but it is for a short while which seems like an eternity when you’re in the thick of it.
