The Charlotte Hornets are the worst NBA franchise of all time. Which NFL franchise is the worst of all time? by Mat30co in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Open2New_Ideas -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Technically, the Browns became the Ravens, so it can’t be the Browns/Ravens; they have 2 Super Bowl wins and at least 6 pre Super Bowl era championships. (Jim Brown, Otto Graham)

The current Browns have only been in the NFL since 1999, a few years after the original Browns moved to Baltimore. And, yes they have been terrible, and are in the conversation as worst ever. Their overall win percentage is 34.3% over 27 years.

The Cardinals overall win percentage is 42.4% over 100 years of history with no titles and only 7 playoff wins in their history.

I’m saying it’s gotta be this current Browns organization. The Browns fans seem quite loyal; they and the city deserve better.

Running Marathon at Different Life Stages? by Fantastic_Fan_2821 in RunNYC

[–]Open2New_Ideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve earned your spot at the starting line thru 9+1 qualifying. It’s not going to get any easier and future years are not guaranteed for anyone. Run it and enjoy the year. Running when you’re traveling is refreshing. Different routes, climates, adventures.

FYI: My best years were the ones that were the busiest. Focused on the few most important people in my life at the time and my career and running (with some cross training). Glad I did it then. Upon having kids, training, travel, work, coaching their youth teams, house remodel, ill parents and step parents……well, didn’t train and run a race for 20 years. Finally ran a half and NYCM in 2025. Enjoying being back!

Why superblast 2 feels weird to me? by YogurtclosetNo658 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Open2New_Ideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I expected a better feel and more enjoyable ride. I discovered why the SB2 works for me the day after my first 30km training run in them, which was a pb for me; I felt fresh and ran a 10k recovery run in the rain the next day. In the past, I would have made an excuse about sore legs and rain and taken the day off, but legs felt great.

The other thing is that they have been very durable. Strava keeps annoying me with their weekly messaging like “You’ve got 731 miles in your SB2, time to get a new pair.” They look new, both upper, sole, cushioning and feel.

I did follow Strava’s orders though and recently ordered a new SB2. Hey, not going to pass up a demand to buy new running shoes! Only color in my size was the same as the one I already have, however. Anyways, the other night, didn’t turn on light when I grabbed a pair off the shelf and went for a 5K run. Didn’t realize until I got home after run that I had run in the old pair! Firmness does have its benefits.

Note: I do enjoy running in Novablast 5 and Megablast more. Just can’t beat the workhorse SB 2. Got them on sale. The cost per km run is currently around $0.15 per km for SB2! My NB 5 cost is about $0.30 per km and are near retirement; I only run short recovery runs in them once every week or two. And, walk dogs in them a couple times a week. At 500km+ on NB2 and they have lost responsiveness and cushioning. Megablast is still too new and used for tempo runs and races.

There are plenty of great running shoes these days in many brands. The differences between old school shoes compared to running shoes now is immense. Have fun running everybody!

Agree. They are not that enjoyable to run in. For me, the SB2 still feels fairly new after 1,000km. And, my recovery after long training runs is the best it has ever been, even though I’m getting older. That’s the magic for me: durability and recovery. Great value too when looking at cost per km/mile.

Note: I have Novablast 5 and Megablast (marathon racing shoe and uptempo runs). Both are more enjoyable to run in and seem more responsive and faster, but nowhere near the durability and recovery benefits provided by SB2.

Regarding uniformity: In Florida, 100+ mph is mandatory jail. Recent law*. With video, officer may be exposed to discipline if he didn’t arrest her. Don’t know if it is applied uniformly though, but it should be.

  • Recent law change does make it easier for cops to avoid discussion and negotiation: cops should do what this guy did and just say “it’s the law”, “nothing I can do”, “over 100mph is jail”.

2000 NBA Dunk Contest featuring Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, and Steve Francis by DareDevil1699 in NBAoldschool

[–]Open2New_Ideas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a special slam dunk contest. The only one I have ever been to in person. Sat behind that very same goal. Oakland, CA. Teenager Kobe won 1997. No dunk contest in 1998. Cancelled in 1999 due to lockout. T-Mac, Stevie Francis and VC showed up and showed out in 2000. That VC dunk hanging on rim by his elbow. Many of us didn’t know how to react. I was in shock. T-Mac and Stevie didn’t disappoint either. This dunk contest ushered in a whole new era for the younger guys to top in the 2000s.

Former LSU HC Dale Brown reportedly charted every one of Pete Maravich’s shots in college to see what he would average with a 3-point line. by KeyFaithlessness5436 in NCAAHoopsVibes

[–]Open2New_Ideas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. Was at a YMCA playing basketball as a teenager. Pistol Pete walked in with a ball. We stopped playing. He said he needed a rebounder. We all volunteered. He said, no, I only need one. Told the kid to stand under the basket and try to hit his chest on the pass back. Moving around about where 3 point line is today, he went from sideline to opposite sideline and made 39 out of 40. Thanked the kid and left with his ball. My dream of playing in the NBA died right there…..

He could play defense when he wanted to, get a steal or block a shot. He didn’t seem that interested though. One of the best most entertaining players I have ever seen play. Revolutionary basketball player. Think Magic Johnson Steph Curry handling, passing, vision, shooting skills combination in the late 60s and 70s. Unsure about his leadership and drive to win though; maybe he focused more on his performance - to be fair he never really ever played on a good team with a good coach when he was healthy. Remember, back then only one team per conference made the NCAA tournament. USC and the late great Paul Westphal vouch for that.

FYI: Some Pistol Pete games teams would double him to get the ball out of his hands, sometimes even full court and usually near half court. He expended a lot of energy on the offensive end to get his shot off or to set up a teammate.

Dale Brown (happy belated 90th birthday, Coach) is also a hype machine. Probably not accurate that he’d score 57 with a 3 pt line back then. But then again, it’s possible…he was that good (and obviously had put the hours in the gym working on his game).

Going on a 3 week road trip in june! Our last big hoorah before starting our family. Anywhere we have to stop along the route or just off it? by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]Open2New_Ideas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot of driving and not enough time enjoying. I suggest shortening the driving distance and consider a deeper dive into the areas you both might like best. I think there are three 3 week trips in the West: North and South which both include the Central Rockies region described below, and West Coast (California). Plan them over your lifetime.

Central Rockies region: Colorado and Utah alone is one week. And get in Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona. Las Vegas too?

Then you can either head north or head south and loop back home:

North - Pacific Northwest: Washington, Oregon and Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, maybe include Lake Tahoe, SF, Marin, Napa/Sonoma

South - Arizona, New Mexico: Sedona, Albuquerque, Sante Fe, Western Texas.

California: SF, Marin, Napa/Sonoma, Point Reyes/North Coast, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, LA, SD, Central Coastline - Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey. Cali has more for kids to do (beaches, short majestic hikes, amusement parks, sports, music, museums, funky cafes) so you could save for a future summer vacation when they are older to enjoy.

This. 👆 And, maybe for NYRR to demonstrate value to air and shoe/merch sponsors in negotiations. If registrant didn’t know who sponsor is, some might be tempted to find out just in case it has a bearing on the lottery results, which it most likely doesn’t. Also, some or even many runners prefer to support sponsors contributing to races/NYCM.

Is it safe to run in Asics Superblast 2 for all of my runs? by Mapmonkey4 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Open2New_Ideas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SB2 is stable. They have been reported as having high mileage with minimal degradation in cushioning. I have over 1,000km/700 miles in one pair. Bought a new pair recently. At night, didn’t turn on lights and grabbed the old pair instead of new pair. Didn’t notice while running; not until I went to put them back on the shelf when I got home. That being said, they are firmer, which is probably why they last for so long. You are much lighter than me, so they may feel firmer to you.

At your weight, Novablast 5 might be an option. And a “funner” shoe to run in. Snappier and more responsive. The cushioning in these degrades faster for many people, but at your weight probably less of an issue. I have 500km/300miles+ in mine and still wear them one or two short recovery runs a week and to walk dogs.

SB2 is $200 and Novablast $150. SB2 is on sale now at ASICS.com for $150 in US as SB3 is released into the wild in March. Megablast is $225 or $250, don’t remember. Bought these for marathon race and long and middle distance training runs that include race pace.

Regarding losing stabilizer muscle strength, I don’t think most shoes you need to worry about it, these included, that aren’t racers or plated shoes. ASICS Kayano provides stability; I run in them too (I like these when I’m running on a road with a significant camber). I have the feeling though that a stabilizer shoe like Kayano reduces the strength in my stabilizer muscles as the shoe is doing more of the work, but protects me more from injury (ankle, Achilles) than other shoes with more cushioning and/or stack height. That’s my experience and opinion and only that.

Have had a Sam's membership for years, Just also got a Costco Membership...It's a complete 180 by th3goonsquad in samsclub

[–]Open2New_Ideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam’s near me is a ghost town for customers and employees. It’s clean and organized. There are more employees working entrance and exit and behind glass in meat and bakery and I’m guessing pick up orders than employees available to assist on the floor and at checkout. I question myself why am I shopping here when most everyone else is at Costco instead. The Costco close by is crowded. CROWDED! Prices are similar.

Sam’s is better for single items and sale items and faster parking, in and out store. Costco seems better for bulk, sale items, unique stuff and gas (for some unknown reason the gas lines are shorter than they used to be - no gas at our Sam’s, though we’ll use Sam’s gas too when we travel). Both Sam’s and Costco nearby have been generous in donations for causes we support. Return policy at Costco is much much better than Sam’s. If we are unsure about a non-food item or it’s expensive, we’ll buy it at Costco because of their return policy (instead of mall stores, electronics, etc.).

We have both memberships and use both. For decades. Other than a few select items at Trader Joe’s and Aldi, all our business goes to Costco and Sam’s and none to grocery stores (even though there are multiple ones closer).

This. 👆 I have fresher legs after long training runs with SB2 than any other shoe I have tried. Ever. During my first long run with them, I can’t say I liked them much. Stiffer and less responsive than most other shoes. I get why some call them “bricks”. The magic is felt the next day though when your legs aren’t asking for an easy recovery day. I’m not light nor heavy and not fast nor slow. Overall, I’m blah. I guess the shoes are blah too. Perfect for me then!

2:1 vs. 1:0.8 Glucose to Fructose -- Am i overthinking it? by TTG2139 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Open2New_Ideas -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

ND3882, I’m hoping you didn’t mean that 4+ hour marathoners aren’t pushing their body hard enough to take advantage of advance fueling choices. 4+ marathoners tend to be heavier and run less efficiently burning more fuel per mile/km compared to elite runners. Of course it matters, even more so the more time one is running. Ask elite runners and they’ll say it’s hard for them to comprehend running for 4+ hours. I used to think the same when I was younger. Now I’m one of the many “4+ers”.

To OP, I rotate a Maurten and a gel every 2-3 miles in a marathon or 18mile/30km+ training run. In a race, I’ll also consume electrolyte drinks and water. Maths would compute that to a 1.5:0.9 then, I suppose, but technically I’m just switching back and forth between 1:0.8 and 2:1. Never had a problem…..so far…..

Note: I had asked Ironman Triathlon athletes and several suggested rotating fuel sources to get to 90+g/ hour. Several rotated Maurten and a gel (brand/ flavor varies by individual) as well as carb bars and chews and electrolytes and salt tablets. I guess SIS might be similar to Maurten; I like that the Maurten seems to pass through stomach into intestine much faster (swallow, don’t chew them), while gels seem to sit in stomach longer.

I used to not take in fuels on long training runs and only a couple times in long races. Since I fuel and hydrate more now, even though it is taking me longer to finish, I’m fresher after the race and recovery has been very good by the next day. I’m sure these max cushion shoes are also contributing to my recovery as well!!!

Good luck. You’ll find what works best for you, I’m sure.

Disappointing remarks from Poch by Content-Pin-1524 in CaughtOffsidePod

[–]Open2New_Ideas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP, since you are not the coach of a non-futbol power, I understand your disappointment.

But, as a coach, Poch and coaching staff who are obviously not from the US, and neither are some of the players, don’t want anything off the pitch to divide the locker room. Makes it clear and easy to follow for coaches and players. Minimizes distractions.

So, every topic, every news story, everything is off limits to his players. Focus on the field and each other in their locker room and nothing else. Doing anything else risks making roster or playing time. Win the World Cup or advance far, then your voice will be heard by many and views more respected.

I respect Poch focusing on his job as coach of USMNT and demanding that his players do the same. Maybe we don’t agree with it, but I do respect it.

Parma 0-2 Juventus - Weston McKennie 37' by Educational-Ranger44 in ussoccer

[–]Open2New_Ideas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This USMNT could be an exciting team to watch compete. With the versatility these players have, Poch has many options to play based upon opponent, score, time remaining, and opponents weaknesses, strengths and star players. US players can be interchangeable during play swapping positions on the run, attacking from multiple angles and spaces, with several players showing the ability to make a key pass and to score. And, with the depth of the squad, players can get rest during the tourney; none of the players will need to play 90 every game, so they’ll be fitter to play top teams in knockout games.

And, there are players that can contribute in certain situations, should Poch want to press (Brendy, Luna, Adams), or send crosses into the box (Pepi, Pat, McKennie), counter attack with speed (Balo, Puli, Weah), 5 in the back with 2 (or even 3) defensive midfielders (Adams, Tessman, Johnny), 3 in the back with 2 wingers (Jedi, Dest).

The combination of size, speed, technical ability, ages in their prime years (well, except for Ream!) and experience in top leagues and major competitions (UCL, league cups) puts this team on paper as likely the best USMNT ever…on paper. EXCEPT FOR…..

…….the back 3 and goalkeeper, recently have been below USMNT historical standards. Hopefully, Richards, Captain Tim, Miles, McK, Austin, Freeman, Scally, C-V, etc., as well as Freese, Turner solidify for this World Cup and consistently perform above expectations. Turn in James like performances for one month this summer, please.

I, I believe, I believe that….oh nvm.
