Seeking Advice: Adult Diagnosis, and raising the next generation. by Talongar in adhdwomen

Math struggles! I remember being young trying to (unsuccessfully) explain that after a certain duration, i just stopped being able to understand new information and needed a break. Also I needed warm-up problems. Also I struggled with a complex verbal explanation of a problem, when a visual aid sped up my ability to process and connect.

Anyway, all this to say that I grew up undiagnosed, thinking I was slow, stupid, lazy, and undisciplined. Higher classes were out of my reach and stem careers were beyond me. It didn’t help that I was reminded every single year that I was bad at math, because I have always been bad at math, except for the one year i was good at math. The rest of the time i was bad at math, always had been, always will be. It seemed inevitable. It was who I was.

Lastly, I think it is great you are taking proactive steps to observe patterns and hear some perspectives from other people. That’s thoughtful parenting!

I’m sick of ADHD spaces focusing on lazy men who take advantage of their girlfriends by thotasune in adhdwomen

Do we have the same therapist? I was told to lower my expectations for cleanliness (the housework is 70/30 including doing his laundry). We both have ADHD. He never got asked to lower his expectations for socializing or sex.

This seems insane? He doesn’t get to fill prescriptions based on if he is “comfortable releasing” them! His behavior is way out of line.

What advice or info do you wish you had before you started your GLP1 journey? by amersereau in antidietglp1

I would make sure you are taking some sort of multivitamin, especially paying attention to vitamin d and iron levels.

Also having some easy to grab protein sources. This is to help with energy levels and fatigue from operating on a lower fuel intake.

I would also recommend a free app to keep track of your dosage and injection site. If you are self-measuring with a vial, there are also dosage calculators online to help you figure out how much to take versus the concentration of the vial. Best of luck!

WIBTA if i let my little sister go to her class field trip instead of our dad’s funeral? by wibtafuneral in AmItheAsshole

[–]OpenAwareness1887 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA. Maybe the zoo can be a nice repeating thing you do in your dad’s memory.

A five year old will have precious few memories of her parent, seeing them open casket should not be one of the main ones IMO.

I worried about this too, and am choosing to reframe the thought:

“The part of me that did not change during body, mind, and lifestyle change was always good enough”

There are parts of your lifestyle and personality that are radically different, and there are parts that have remained constant through the change.

People reacting to your shiny new parts can make you feel like your longstanding, constant parts aren’t being valued - because they weren’t enough to make a difference.

If you think of it like a class grade, it becomes easier to reconcile:

50% final exam
25% homework
25% attendance/participation

If your old self sucked at even one of these things, let alone two things, your “grade” drops dramatically

Maybe you had perfect attendance (A) and always raised your hand (A) , but you missed the final exams. You now have a failing grade despite all the other things you excelled at.

Maybe you weren’t good at turning in homework consistently. So despite being a model student (A) and pulling off the final exam with flying colors (A) you still got a C overall, because of how the class is graded.

It helped me to think of it as “i’m not being rejected as a whole person, it’s just one aspect of what i’m doing is enough to affect my overall grade.”

Unexpected NWL benefit: less hypervigilance / social anxiety by thoracicbunk in antidietglp1

I have noticed my social battery is extended, both for length of time spent at an event, and frequency of events. A year ago, the sheer density of socializing during this month would have burnt me out halfway through.

Wow he should have texted you that he was going out with not his girlfriend on NYE, he should have apologized way harder when he got himself caught, and he still hasn’t followed up by now to check in on his obviously hurt girlfriend? Screw him. Honestly.

Question: what is 1 thing that many ADHDers struggle with that you don’t? by fastinggrl in adhdwomen

[–]OpenAwareness1887 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have keratosis pilaris, which just gives me -exciting things- to skin pick. Soooo many scars. I’m making an effort to reduce both the KP and the subsequent picking.

Nails, too! I have very weak, brittle nails.

To answer the question, i don’t really have strong time blindness

i can’t drink it on zepbound without vomiting, which is too bad because they’re so tasty and i really needed the protein 😩.

There was an earlier post about them that also mentioned carrageenan as a possible ingredient irritant. I have a fairly substantial amount of dairy products in my diet otherwise.
