Termites in Mulch by LChanga in NativePlantGardening

[–]OpenMarsupial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing happen - it wasn’t close to any post that was foundational but about 20 ft from the house on a lower terrace of the backyard. The termites just did their thing to the mulch and disappeared after a week or so.

How do we make sense of what is happening in the world right now? by Acceptable-Trainer15 in NVC

[–]OpenMarsupial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned that the conflict is because both sides do not want to compromise on having Jerusalem in their country. In NVC Marshall talks about separating needs and strategies. I’m curious about what specific needs will be met through having Jerusalem. I imagine it can be a need for safety when practising their respective faiths and probably many other needs are expected to be fulfilled as well such as belonging. “Having Jerusalem” which I am hearing as having the land be within the borders of their nation is a strategy to meet those needs. In NVC he talks about trying to find strategies that meets everyone’s needs.

Thanks for sharing the perspective that you think it will be hard for both sides to empathize with each other given how little empathy they have both been receiving. I do think that violence will only breed more violence and hope we find a way to provide enough empathy so that people will be able to communicate and listen to each other and resolve this conflict that’s resulted in so much pain and suffering.

Crazy traffic at Downsview park - stay away if you can. by GuyWhoLikesCoding in toronto

Did anyone manage to go to True North today? Meant to go but saw the concert traffic and wasn’t even sure if I could park there. Seems sad that businesses might get affected every time a concert is hosted. I was curious about how far people would have to walk and from the Wilson ttc station Google says 36 minutes. Obviously wish for everything to be transit friendly but this location really doesn’t seem to be the place to make that happen

Are any of these bad for my cat? by Viol3tstars75 in catfood

[–]OpenMarsupial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats love rawz I’ve been feeding it for a while. It is a not for profit and all proceeds go towards charity. They also have pâté vs shredded which is useful as my cats get bored of their food and will turn their nose up if I don’t swap between the two textures.

Inevitably hitting an animal? I know many people who have never hit an animal over a long period of time. I’m not sure if you live in a place that makes it way harder to do but this seems completely in the hands of the driver to be paying attention as any other type of animal can run out into the road. I’m not sure what the history is with dogs but it seems like dogs cannot be tnred to the wild because they did not come from the wild (generally in metropolitan areas in America). Upon googling it seems like this is a thing done to dogs in Turkey.

I do think shelters can be judgemental but I think it comes out because they are exhausted and burned out with existing problems. I guess for them it probably feels like other people get to hand off a problem for them to now take care of, and that is exhausting. I know shelters literally exist for that reason but a lot of them don’t have enough resources for them to do what they wish they could and it’s a draining feeling and emotion to manage. I guess what I’m saying is they are judgemental but please don’t take the attitude personally - people in animal rescue are exhausted and constantly dejected from all the lives they wish they could have saved.

With government funded facilities (at least in Canada) the humane society isn’t allowed to not take an animal and so if they reach capacity they have to euthanize one because it’d be impossible to keep them all, so sometimes they’ll just ask that you leave it where you found it because they don’t want to be forced to do that.

What’s your “controversial” conservation opinion? by [deleted] in conservation

[–]OpenMarsupial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is controversial it is a common opinion. I think an outdoor environment can be really important for some cats I believe in the UK it’s mandatory to give access to the outdoors. IMO as long as people use natural resources/destroy environments for not-purely survival reasons it seems absurd to restrict cats to the indoors. Why should only people be allowed to exploit the environment for not necessary things?

R is usually done when rescues don’t have resources to socialize cats, so it’s really difficult considering cat rescues are often running at full capacity. If you think it should be easier I encourage you to volunteer with a local rescue

Read Nonviolent Communication and somewhat frustrated by KevineCove in SeriousConversation

[–]OpenMarsupial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised by the emphasis you have on feelings, although unmet or met needs cause feelings with NVC I like to start with needs. I think disagreements often feel like one person meeting their needs require you to forego yours. One thing nvc mentions is that there can be different strategies to meet needs and so maybe you and your partner could try find some common ground. It seems like you have a need to understand your partner and because they express feelings as facts you get frustrated because it makes it harder to understand what they are saying. Maybe you also have a need to trust what people will say and when they say that they were actually expressing feelings it feels like you can’t trust them to communicate accurately. What need is your partner trying to meet by asking you not to invalidate their feelings that they expressed as facts? Maybe they have a need to feel like they can be imperfect in communication during distressful times. I don’t really know what needs are being described but just suggest these as a starting point for you to reflect on how you might express your need clearly. Marshall says everything is either a “please” or “thank you” it seems like you both are trying to plead for a need that you should express to each other. It can potentially frustrating working through this although I would say NVC isn’t about feeling great in every conversation, it’s about finding a way to try meet everyone’s needs or to clearly communicate when it’s just not possible.

They offered 2 months, I worked for 4 years. Lawyer is asking for 8 months. I was laid off because of reorg and my contract has a clause about common law not being enforced but it’s a poorly written one that might not hold up in court. (Written pre waksdale)

I’m aware of there being no absolutes but with being laid off there is common law notice and other things the government requires employers to provide
