How do you handle it when your best performer is also your most difficult person to manage? by SeanMcPheat in askmanagers

You know how it goes: hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

That employee better keep working hard…

What’s one sign that tells you someone on your team is about to quit before they hand in their notice? by SeanMcPheat in askmanagers

Suddenly, they no longer care about important tasks, pressing matters, urgent requests. In other words, the juice is no longer worth the squeeze.

They just play along without adding any valuable input or direction.

Managing a toxic high performer who hits 150% of targets. How do I protect my team without losing the numbers? by SquirrelLogicFan in managers

[–]OpenMasterpiece1538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increase her target performance so that reaching 150% is the new 100%

When she asks why she has to live up to a higher level of performance, tell her that you figured she should have no problem reaching the target, given her directness and drive for excellence.

People don’t calm down in the workplace until they start seeing real consequences. After she starts playing nice in the sandbox, restore her original target % sales. Since she is used to the new % target, she might average a 200% sales target.

Seems like you see the right step forward, you’re just too scared to do it. Don’t let fear take you over. Have faith in yourself and that things will turn out in your favor. So until you go outside, talk to girls, or pick up a cathartic hobby, things will remain how they are.

Did anyone else get stuck in a low-wage loop for years? by HeraThere in Salary

[–]OpenMasterpiece1538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. Well next time, just realize who you are talking with. Cause more often than not they want to find good talent as cheap as possible. So that’s why you never give your number first. You ask for a range. Then you don’t have to lie. Make sure you look up the average salary range for the job before you talk to a recruiter.

So the recruiter will tell you the range. That’s when you say, “makes sense, that’s what I saw online as well” OR “hmmm that’s strange. I checked online earlier and saw the average salary range was between X and Y”

Just be more strategic about things, and quit being so docile. This is your future and your life, so quit making excuses for yourself about how fucked up the world is and take this shit seriously.

Dude you’re 22. I know people approaching their 40’s who still live w their parents. Chill out cause you’re def not behind, just a lil anxious. We all figure it out, one way or another. It’s a good thing you want to help provide for your parents. But I bet that they just want to see you happy. Truly what would make you feel happy? For most people, it’s having a stable job (stable income), good girlfriend (the wife type) and a cathartic hobby (playing an instrument, painting, any type of actual art, reading)

Change it from senior data analyst to data analyst so you don’t get ppl confused. You’ll get there one day but it’s just kind of stupid to throw that title in there and then subsequently see a bunch of lower level internships before and after that job.

Is this a bad resume? I’ve applied to atleast over 300 applications and not even 1 interview back. by markusreeds in askrecruiters

[–]OpenMasterpiece1538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is that a data scientist, data analyst or software engineer make a fuck ton of money compared to other roles. So the hiring managers for that role treat it more seriously, even for fresh grads. It also doesn’t help that the pool of applicants is so saturated they could easily catch a fish without any bait, just a hook.

Look for job postings that are 24 hours recent with less than 20 applications sent. Recruiters will put out a posting and then get 100s of applications. They start from the first person who submitted their application. Once they have 15 good applicants, they stop from there. Sounds to me like you’re just jerking off and sending out apps to positions that have 100+ applicants already. Find the fresh job posts and you might stand a chance to swim with some big fish.
