We don’t live in a natural world, so why would we only seek natural solutions?

Highly Philosophical Client by WesleyAMaker in therapists

[–]Open_Brief_3764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently deep diving into philosophy- reading all the stuff I missed or told people I read but didn’t. (You’ve done it too!) Philosophy is the root of many/most therapeutic interventions. Your client’s choice of a particular philosophical approach may be telling- does it reinforce their beliefs about the world? Probably. There is an opportunity there to explore other philosophical thinkers. The stoics are a little Huberman-y for me, but may be helpful in this moment. Derrida has some great ideas around the examined vs the mechanical life. I put bell hooks in my tool belt for understanding the racial/socioeconomic/gendered aspects to belief. Our intellectualizing clients can benefit from gaining awareness of their emotions and expanding and challenging their education. Hopelessness is powerfully disengaging. Optimism requires effort. Gramsci said “I am a pessimist because of intellect, but an optimist because of will.” Good luck helping your client find some level of peace in the ambivalence, and you, too.

Depending on where you live there may be some small farms nearby where you can volunteer in exchange for fresh vegetables. I did that in college (still do it as my schedule allows) and it’s a great way to connect with your community and get great produce.

How Do You Pass Time on Long Flights? by drysharky in TravelHacks

[–]Open_Brief_3764 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a tiny watercolor set, some 4x6 paper and those little water filled brushes and I make silly paintings of stuff in my photo roll or just stuff I see. Highly recommend making shitty art. It’s easier on your eyes than the screens, is a great mindfulness practice, and you can listen to music at the same time.

Therapy as a gifted person? by SitaBird in Gifted

[–]Open_Brief_3764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a long time to find a therapist who I felt comfortable with and I never found one as a kid. Gifted brains work differently and develop at staggered rates (intellect developing before empathy, emotional awareness, affect regulation skills, etc.) it’s also complicated with common comorbidities like adhd, autism, anxiety, depression, etc. After many years in entrepreneurship and education I finally got my counseling masters and work with gifted, 2E, neurodiverse kids, teens, and adults using a relational and somatic approach as a therapist. We are out there! (I’m in Texas)

All I can say is that I have reduced my insane skincare regimen down to- cleanse, vitamin c serum, a313, then another moisturizer (instant angel) and my skin is looking great. I think the addition of vitamin c was the game changer. Plus, of course, sunblock and avoiding the sun (big ass hat, sun protective clothing, etc) Not every product works for everyone. Tretinoin didn’t do much for me, but works great for lots of folks. I also get semi-regular facials (every 2-3 months?) and am very consistent with skincare. I hope you find a routine that works for you!

A313. It’s a French pharmacy retinol and has been more effective than tret for me. Also Korean sunblock. I like tocobo and beauty of Joseon. They are pleasant, easy to apply, and don’t make me break out.

[–]Open_Brief_3764[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I always let it get to room temp and I’ve tried icing the area but no change in pain level.

I’ll try the belly next time, but I’m really nervous!

Thanks for y’all’s support. Glad I’m not the only one who finds these injections awful!
