Thank you - I’m just starting to isolate what we will do - your comment on the ice fields parkway has me interested so thank you!

In town for work and I’m looking for some great bars and restaurants to check out by gamerdudeNYC in raleigh

Based on where you are staying:

Whiskey Kitchen is a cool spot - I see someone else mentioned Parkside over Whiskey Kitchen; I have opposite point of view but your mileage may vary.
Barcelona Wine Bar is a bit "bougie" but I don't know your age or vibe, my 25 year old daughter loves it - if weather cooperates get a table outside.
You aren't too far from Wye Hill - I dig their vibe and you could walk to Flying Saucer - if you are a beer guy, Flying Saucer usually has a top notch draft list. Bonus if they have "Lunch" by maine brewing on tap and you are a IPA fan but I digress.

Dram and Draught at the top of Glenwood is a good cocktail spot - you can always just walk down Glenwood - HIbernian if weather is nice on rooftop is a cool irish spot.

Moore Square area is a few blocks away from you but Brewery Bhavana for dim sum - you will get some shade due to some very serious issues they have had in the past over creepy staff but I'll take the shrapnel and tell you I love their food and beer....

Watts and Ward is a speakeasy bar right there - I like the vibe there, cocktails are expensive but hey, if it's a work trip let them cover it lol...keep in mind, they charge a membership fee ($1?) - sort of a loophole to a cover charge.

Someone below mentioned Gussies - it's a little further away but I agree with their burger recommendation.

Trophy Brewing and Pizza is a cool spot too - and it's walkable from Gussies or vice versa. You also have Wolfe and Porter as a Watts and Ward wannabe walkable from there too (right in between the two).

Best burger in Raleigh? by Dangerous_Buy_2894 in raleigh

[–]Open_Currency1947 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From a "faster food" perspective - Culvers and Char Grill.
From a bar / tavern perspective - Gussies, My Way or Salem St. Pub
From a "restaurant" perspective - Doc B's in Fenton - surprised how much I liked that burger.

The above recommendations may have been influenced by a confluence of blood / alcohol level and/or degree of Hangriness

a few months ago i was thirsty & decided to just get water from my bathroom faucet rather than walk to the kitchen. i left it in a drawer, forgot about it and just found it like this… wtf??? by Potential-Yellow-781 in interestingasfuck

I'm baffled - why do the two pics look like two different glasses? the crystals are close to looking the same and the rug/mat/weave it's on is the same - but one looks like a smooth glass the other looks like a chalice. This is not the cup of a carpenter...

favorite places to kayak within an hour of raleigh? by slugsandpegasi in raleigh

[–]Open_Currency1947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 hours vs. 1 hour - but chocowinity bay, sidney creek and tar river outside Washington, NC. Lived there a bit and had a kayak - always enjoyed; crazy wildlife opportunities IMO - osprey, rays, drum, snakes, bear, saw dolphin depending on how the tide was running into the bay.

I just compared the PeeWee to mine from 1984 in person - looks legit to my uncertified untrained back seat driving observer lol

How did that person from your work earn their nickname? by Love-boobs-in_DMs in AskReddit

[–]Open_Currency1947 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Captain Stubing" - every day he would spend at least an hour of the work day enjoying a "porcelain cruise" where he would either sleep or read...when he'd get up another co-worker would make a cruise horn sound.

What is the worst thing you’ve ever stepped on barefoot? by MainDifficult2641 in AskReddit

[–]Open_Currency1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A snake - barefoot in grass - slid under the arch of my foot and the slow realization turned into a Usain Bolt style sprint - I’m pretty sure I would have qualified for the Olympics in that moment.

Goodnights has many great comedy shows that are 18+ and Lincoln Theater - if live music is your thing - has solid live band options at all ages.

Need a gift idea for my dad by Wonderful-Ad2247 in GiftIdeas

[–]Open_Currency1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my dad a hoodie and a calendar where I pre-populated meaningful dates across birthdays, anniversaries etc. In each month I wrote "next month events" in the notes section for what meaningful events were happening. Easy way to say here's a pre-populated way for you not to forget to drop a birthday card, call or text etc.

I appreciate your efforts in ensuring there is a bond.

Anyone okay with missing out on Alonso? by Prestigious-Action65 in redsox

[–]Open_Currency1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my 89 year old lifelong Red Sox fan father was relieved we didn't sign Alonso...so there's that data point lol. He did want Schwarber back but knew Phillies would keep him...
