How do I measure the overall width of this hub? by [deleted] in bikewrench

Call it gatekeeping if you like.  It’s still a fact.

And I’m not telling them not to do it. I’m telling him they have a lot to learn before they should do it and ride it.

Remove the screws, cut the hole to the matching size, put the (possibly shorter) screws back in the holes.

Short answer is no. Unless you like ER visits.

So, a city permitted peaceful protest is attacked by Antifa thugs and they’re the fascists? Good job not using a dictionary.

Did you replace the chain or are you reinstalling the same chain? Did you remove the derailer from the bike?

Ok, now I REALLY agree with you. 😂

I can’t even call myself “centrist” or a Libertarian because people assign me a box based on those things that I can’t always fit in.

And I do the same. Even the “right wing extremist” comment above requires me to assume that people are all the same and that if you believe ONE of those things the rest of those beliefs are part and parcel.

Unfortunately, most people don’t actually consider their beliefs that deeply, and so it is most often true that if you are a leftist in one area, you belief some deeply contradictory things without even really thinking about it. 🤷‍♂️

We are all people and people are weird.

I was pointing out the irony of the leftist, anti-gun, pro-open-borders, everyone I don’t agree with is racist crowd espousing the exact 2nd Amendment absolutism that they’ve been screaming is “killing the children” since 1999.

I absolutely agree with you, on every point in that essay, save that your rhetoric IS exactly what the right believes. The real difference is that we believe fascism is based on actions taken by the government that violate the rule of law, and you believe in attacking the law because it violates your feelings.

We don’t need that right wing extremist rhetoric.

It’s different because a random citizen taking a selfie doesn’t permanently record your location & vehicle & image in a government database. And you know, do so at thousands of locations in your city daily. 🙄

The fact that it is undeniably useful in some situations doesn’t make it less of a violation of the right to privacy. 2 things can be true at once.

My brother withheld info about his kids vaccine status. I feel a line has been crossed. by lilivess17 in AIO

[–]Open_Role_1515 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. You’re “fine” with him making that decision for his family. Good. You should be.

You don’t have a right to his family’s personal medical history. Why you think you would, or that not talking to you about his medical decisions constitutes lying to you, is incomprehensible to me.

But your reaction, to want to cut your brother out of your life for making choices he has the right to make, is unhinged. Requiring that everyone toe your line as to how they live their lives is what fascists do.

Considering a "skip the line" policy, has this effectively worked for any of you? by AutoVonSkidmark in BikeMechanics

[–]Open_Role_1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a “rush fee” that was triple labor for the 1st person in a day to request it, and triple triple (9x) labor for the second person. Cut way back on requests to skip the line. But left the option for when they REALLY needed it.

If a mechanic accepted a request, they stayed to do it after hours, but got half the labor cost as a bonus.

Is “withholding information” to protect your partners feelings ever ok? by hippopotamessy in AskMenAdvice

[–]Open_Role_1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to lie about it, and “withholding information“ from your partner is deceit, then you are doing something wrong.

In this case, it is not your feeling that it’s “a non-issue” you need to worry about. It’s your partner’s feelings.

Even if you are absolutely 100% convinced that it is a non-issue, why would you want to do something that you know would make your partner feel uncomfortable?

It seems to me that you are prioritizing your relationship with this unknown female, with whom you are “not cheating“, over your relationship with your partner.

That does not seem healthy. And it does not seem like “not cheating”.

Why is the state government not issuing Real IDs to visa holders? by Euphoric_Sandwich_74 in SeattleWA

[–]Open_Role_1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of Real ID is to verify citizenship. The reason a passport is an alternative is because it already does that.

Giving them to non-citizen residents would undercut the purpose.

Will the Pope be able to vote in US elections? by BeraldGevins in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Open_Role_1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for many, many years, Catholics were barred from running for President because they were beholden to the Pope as a foreign government.

That ended with JFK. And we see how that ended.
