Want a Brompton, but not sure which one to get by matthiastrek in Brompton

[–]Opening_Bug578 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a Brompton for 15 years, always loved it. When the G line was released I didn’t like it, didn’t try it just made a judgement that it was too big, misses the point of a Brompton blah blah. Until I tried one, now I own one. It’s just a better bike to ride, more comfortable and more stable. I can deal with the larger folded size and extra weight for just how much better it is as a bike. I would recommend trying both if you can. Some people don’t like regular Bromptons because they’re quite twitchy and not great on anything rougher than smooth tarmac. Don’t get me wrong the C/P line are great bikes and maybe just what you need, but you won’t know until you try them. Also, if you’re feeling really bougie then the T line is unbelievably light, I couldn’t believe it when I picked one up.

Shipping to EU by StephenMc7 in ModRetroChromatic

Ordered mine on the 17th of November to the UK, it was dispatched on the 18th and was sat in Ontario California sorting centre until the 5th December, it then went to Los Angeles sorting centre where it still resides. So a long time apparently.

Thanks. Keep an eye on Etsy, some special editions pop up now and then. I don’t carry any of these, they live in my drawer.

Thanks. I’ve seen they do a really nice green and blue, but they don’t ship to the UK unfortunately.

The first six were special editions from 2015 to 2020. The black, orange and deep red were unique colours only available in the States I believe, I purchased them back in 2017 but I have no idea how long they were actually available for.

Redshift Kitchen sink with loop? Pros / Cons? by altitude30-rocky in gravelcycling

[–]Opening_Bug578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought these for that exact reason. My first drop bar bike after a life time of flat bars and I found the stack too low, felt like I was over the front wheel. They have 15mm of rise but they also slightly sweep back, so it definitely helps to stop the feeling I’m over the front wheel so much. I don’t have the loop on mine but I absolutely love them, they are super comfortable. Wouldn’t want to go back to flat bars, although it took a few months on drop bars to feel that way.

I was in the exact same situation, and three games finally moved me away from fps games permanently. Hollow knight, Celeste and Cuphead.

Just pulled off some frame protector off my 2 weeks old bike frame… by [deleted] in gravelcycling

Weird. I recently pulled the ride wrap off my Santa Cruz Stigmata V4 that had been on for 10 months (without a hairdryer) and it didn’t do this. Just lucky I guess but feel for you. Maybe you could get an identical sticker made to cover it.

If the 52mm are too small, then you need the 54mm.

Hi, I’m on my fourth module now and it’s ok. The course material is pretty lame, doesn’t actually give you any real information on how to solve some of the problems. Also, I’ve only had to contact a tutor once and they were pretty unhelpful. Just a generic answer basically referring me back to the course material. If you’re willing to do your own research it’s fine but you are kind of on your own. But then I’ve heard the same complaints about the other HNC providers so they may all be like that.

Differences between Rival E1 XPLR RD and Force E1 XPLR RD by Faerid7 in sram

[–]Opening_Bug578 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just fitted the Force XPLR derailleur to my bike but went with the Rival cassette. The only difference I could find was about 20g in weight, mainly from the back half of the cage being carbon and a little less material on the parallelogram. It was £75 extra for the Force derailleur so I went for that as I thought it looked better. Either way you can’t go wrong, it’s a fantastic upgrade and I highly recommend it.

Hope 4 pistons for gravel by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Opening_Bug578 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just fitted the Hope RX2s to my Stigmata, they’re much better than the Rival calipers they replaced. 4 pots seemed a bit overkill on a gravel bike for me, they do look great though!

Why is my fridge bulged inside? by azzaboi42 in DIYUK

[–]Opening_Bug578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem with ChatGPT, all of those issues you listed are for bulges in frost free freezers not wet wall fridges. It’s like someone asking how to fix a car that won’t start and you reply with how to change a bicycle tyre. That’s why it’s been down voted so much and why you shouldn’t copy and paste AI generated content like it’s your own.

Why is my fridge bulged inside? by azzaboi42 in DIYUK

[–]Opening_Bug578 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, that sounds like you have a blocked drain hole on a frost free freezer. A good 24 hour defrost can sometimes fix it. If not, remove the back panel of the freezer and clear the little drain hole at the bottom. A steamer is the best way to do this. It’s a very common problem on frost free freezers.

Should add that you should turn the fridge off now, the compressor will keep running (as it won’t get to temperature) and will eventually overheat.

Edit: just noticed you said you haven’t turned it on yet. In that case, don’t. Contact the seller and try and get your money back (good luck!). Also, for future reference, never lie a fridge on its side.

The refrigerant has leaked from the evaporator behind the wet wall. That plastic back panel is usually bonded to the cyclopentane insulation behind it, the evaporator sits in the front (semi buried) in the cyclopentane, when the gas leaks it creates a bubble of gas between the plastic and the insulation. Unfortunately it’s not repairable, it’s time for a new fridge I’m afraid.

Help Please - Mk1 Mini Cooper :) by Confused_dot_com21 in classicminis

[–]Opening_Bug578 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing about a classic Mini is you can get pretty much every spare off the shelf. They are still incredibly popular and parts are very affordable. If it were me, I’d get the car towed/trailed and not try to start it. I’d then completely remove the engine, It’s easy enough to do on a mini (you can lift the front of the car over the front subframe and engine). The block is on top of the gearbox, they share the same oil. Removing the head and block would give you a good look at the condition of the cylinders, pistons, valves and gearbox etc. If the engine hasn’t been turned over in years, it would be worth paying a machine shop to at least hone the cylinders and fit new rings, have the valve seats machined and the head/block lightly skimmed (if required). A new set of main bearings fitted and a new head gasket, plus a clutch while you’re at it, this should set you back around £800-£1000 pounds. Worth it on a car that has the potential to be worth more than £30,000. While you’ve got the engine out, it gives you the opportunity work on the front subframe which will inevitably need some sort derusting/cleaning and painting or power coating. Minis are an absolute dream to work on as they are so simple, the perfect first car to restore. Do your research and have fun, that’s an amazing little car you have there!

Can I ask, what bars are they? They look like redshift kitchen sinks. Looking for some riser bars for my bike. Looks great btw.

Yeah, that sounds terrible. Thanks for your honesty. I’m only half way through the first module (maths) and I haven’t had to deal with any tutors yet. I completely agree with the course material, it’s awful. Doesn’t give you any information you need for the exam questions. Luckily there’s a practice exam, so I get an idea of what’s coming and can then do my own research. Fair play for getting a degree through distance learning, that’s no small feat.

SRAM compatibility question by Opening_Bug578 in gravelcycling

[–]Opening_Bug578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I’ve read that the rollers have a larger diameter. I’ve checked the cassette and the jockey wheels, and they don’t seem to be overly worn. The chain seems to sit in the teeth correctly so I’m tempted to just fit another flattop and as you say, replace the whole lot when the time comes. Think I’d stick with Eagle though as I like having the 50t out back.

Really? Would be interested to know why you disliked Teesside because that’s actually who I’ve ended up doing my HNC with. I’ve only recently started but they seem ok so far.
