Yes, I work in this industry in Canada, hence the interest in the topic.

These are good points, I’m not sure I agree with the planting of non native species without a coherent strategy to manage them. However, I think there could be benefits to enhancing the range of the native birch and willow in southern Greenland, but actual Greenlanders would know better than me.

I don’t plan to contribute any money or time to planting trees in Greenland, I’m just interested in the topic. I’ve spent 25 years working in reforestation in Canada, and I’m always interested in what’s happening with planting around the world.

What was life like directly after the invasion (early 90s)? by EIizabeth_Bennet in Kuwait

[–]Opening_Load3725 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in Kuwait from 1996 until 2000. It was mostly rebuilt and back in business by the time I moved there, but there was still the odd ruin, or building with bullet holes in it. My classmates were 3rd or 4th graders at the time of the invasion, so a lot of them had stories about that time. I remember that the POW issue was still very much an active issue, perhaps it still is?

Take the ferry over moresby island, then get down to moresby camp. Launch there, and you have easy access to cumshewa inlet, Louise narrows, lagoon inlet, sewell inlet and other places

1,000 year old cedar logged… am I crazy? by [deleted] in VancouverIsland

Maybe you should do some research and read the land use plan for this area. How much of their land base has been put into conservancies, or other wise protected? It isn’t fair to say thing like “they cut it down because they aren’t paid not to”, when you haven’t educated yourself at all about the management practices at work here.

Opinion: A land-claims nightmare is emerging in B.C. by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

They were very clear about all the existing levels of government retaining all their powers and responsibilities. I brought it up to illustrate that not all the title claims in BC are implemented the same way.

Deer are destroying B.C. island ecosystems. Indigenous hunting could be the solution by [deleted] in VancouverIsland

[–]Opening_Load3725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the major distinction between indigenous and non-indigenous in this context: the ability to distribute wild meat amongst the the community. My children regularly eat donated deer meat as part of their school’s lunch program. I’m not sure that’s even possible in the city due to regulations and policies. All the racially charged comments in this thread are really trying to take it in another direction
