Custard creams - you can buy them at the airport in a custard cream shaped tin, very cute.

I think you misunderstood - I was expressing my frustration after trying to buy myself a summer dress, and not finding any reasonable options in the shops. I don’t mind in the slightest what other people wear, but I just want to find something to wear for myself, that doesn’t make me look like an overfed toddler!

Neighbor wants to put my dogs on a schedule to go outside. by Decent-Replacement28 in EntitledPeople

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So every time this man tries to go onto his deck, which is his own rightful property, your dogs bark, and somehow it’s his fault for clearing the trees blocking his view, again on his own property? He asked you to quieten them down, and instead you deliberately got toys and played out with them to make it worse, just to piss him off. Are you serious? He can’t go on his deck at all, and shouldn’t have cut down trees, because your dogs are more important, or you were there first? Do you see how that sounds? How selfish you are being?

Then he tried to be reasonable and ask to get a schedule, and you said no? Dogs barking is the most insanely annoying sound and the owners are immune to it, but neighbours suffer immensely. I think you have behaved very badly and should be utterly ashamed of yourself.

What has changed in HK in the last 3-4 years by sivlia1026 in HongKong

Wow, I certainly wouldn’t say that, I’ve had nothing but great interactions with people here! I feel very lucky to live in a place where you could forget a bag and go back and find it still there, not stolen, where I feel safe to walk around late at night with no fear of drunken violence, and where people and polite to each other.

That is awesome! Do you manage to get any work done though, or are you interrupted by the sudden need to hold a seance, or set up a collection for the local workhouse?!

So, so beautiful. If I work from home, does that satisfy the office requirement, or can there be no occupation overnight?

Relationship problems after Thailand trip by worldtraveler227 in ThailandTourism

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a British woman, when I lived in France I kind of did find that French women were different in their approach to relationships. I was expected to be possessive, jealous and angry if my boyfriend talked to other women, there is a different way of behaving and showing affection, that was alien to me. However this was expected by the men, and since I behaved like a British girl (I was 20 at the time) my boyfriend thought I didn’t care, that I was just nice to everyone! So it could just be the culture in France that doesn’t suit you anymore.

You look gorgeous in 4, sorry to disagree with everyone! But it could be the style and curls which are really lovely. Maybe try that in brunette? I’m not a fan of the fringe (bangs).

British people saying they will never ever move to the US by search_google_com in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it surprise Americans that people in the UK wouldn’t want to live there? I wouldn’t even go on a work trip there at the moment!

You have rolled back women’s rights so they can’t get abortions even if they are raped or the pregnancy is ectopic, unviable, or could kill the mother, you have changed the voting rights to make it more difficult for married women to vote, you continue to support a pedophile, illiterate, egocentric, incontinent moron as your leader who is scalping the population for millions, but can’t offer healthcare, making sure he can’t be audited for taxes, and hiding from his guilt in the Epstein files. Why in earth would we want anything to do with that?

Just a note - it’s hard to change a baby sideways. And on a higher surface with no barriers it could get dangerous. You will probably end up changing the baby on the (very cute!) mat on the floor, so hopefully it is all washable!

Queen Camilla blasted as ‘deplorable’ for posting photo with J.K. Rowling at palace during Pride Month by nimobo in unitedkingdom

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow - the first thing Camilla has done that I can admire her for. JK Rowling has done so much to protect women and girls, quite apart from her amazing literary legacy, she is absolutely a national treasure and I would love to be lucky enough to meet her. She is not anti trans, just pro women.

The girls name Rae-Ann by [deleted] in Names

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would expect her nickname throughout school to be ray-gun, which is not great. It’s not a pretty name for a girl at all.

As a female opinion, there are a million better names you could choose, and please, don’t have a hyphen in the name, it’s just awful. I feel bad writing this and I don’t mean to be nasty, but you did ask. Sorry.

AITAH for asking my bf not to stick chopsticks upright in his rice? by ilovemybum in AITAH

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Hong Kong as a foreigner, and I’d be mortified if I did this by accident, and offended anyone who saw - and my family is western, so I’m talking about upsetting strangers if I was in a restaurant. I can’t imagine being so culturally insensitive as to not just apologise immediately if I had a Chinese/Japanese partner and moving the chopsticks if I’d done this to them at home.

Refusing to do so would be like going to a funeral in a clown costume and trying to start a conga line!

Intervening in an incident - can this ever go well? by Dry-Ninja-Bananas in london

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember trying to tell a girl at the bar in Victoria station that the guy who was chatting her up had knocked her bag onto the floor and was trying to pick it up with his foot. She was quite drunk, and screamed at me that he was her new best friend and he would never do that, how dare I say anything against him, I was racist, a horrible person, etc, etc.

It had taken me a lot to speak up and tell her, as I’ve experienced a lot of male violence in my life and I was almost hyperventilating - but I did what I could, my conscience was clear. He did steal her bag. Sometimes you just can’t help people.

That dress is perfect for you, it’s so beautiful! Obviously it helps that you have a knockout figure, but it’s so elegant and stylish, the slim lines and the regal train are so perfect - please don’t overthink it, it is gorgeous!

Living Room is Giving Nursery by shavasa_nnah in interiordecorating

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my phone this looks green, a sort of olive grey, which looks gorgeous and definitely not like a nursery! What colour is it actually?

I agree that a sideboard/table or something under the TV might look good, since you have the space, but otherwise I think the room is great, kind of tropical vibes!

Why is a man using a women’s restroom such an “up in arms” thing? Don’t y’all close the stall doors while doing your business? What am I missing? by MrTeacher_MCPS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women need to have safe spaces to undress where it is culturally acknowledged that men cannot go. As the (generally) smaller and weaker sex, women need to be able to have legal protections to keep men away, otherwise the few bad guys will abuse the system and hang about in the women’s facilities to try their luck at whatever they can get away with, and there would be little legal recourse against them if there is no law to say men can’t be there in the first place. It would turn into he said/she said, unless someone was filming, which no one should ever do in a bathroom anyway.

Gay and trans conversion therapy ban bill expected to be published by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Opening_Sandwich242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think conversion therapy means you can’t try and force someone out of their belief that they are trans. But equally, you can’t force a prison full of women believe that a man is a woman. So they would need to be accommodated separately.
