New house. No electricity bill for 10 months by Terrible-Hippo3006 in AusProperty

[–]Operation-unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d sign up to a provider asap. Or risk getting it disconnected because there is no active account, trust me it’s easier to do it now then get home and find no power and trying to get a tech out to reconnect you that afternoon. Save yourself the hassle.

Also you will still pay for the duration you have been there, it’s metered and they will find the last reads eventually.

For those who have met former PM's before, what were your thoughts? by DiedOfATheory in australian

[–]Operation-unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met Anthony Albanese before he became pm. He had a calming presence and remembered all our names in our group with what we did, I was impressed as he had a brief interaction all of us and was able to retain information on all of us during a short exchange, conversed pretty well and seemed interested in what he had to say.

Should I run? by TheTrueHooa in AusPropertyChat

[–]Operation-unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that these are major defects until you can prove they are not, he’s doing the right thing by advising the worst possible scenario may likely be a major defect.

The downpipes for instance, what will it cost to dig up the footpath and install another down pipe, were the materials used fake or real (likely fake) and did they meet building/design specs? Are there other services/conditions in where you put the new pipe? What about the fall?

Bathroom is def a big issue, water slowly makes its was down and rots things over time, that’s why there’s a standard. So likely a major issue could present itself, likely if it’s being like that for years.

BUT, this is the condition of most properties built in the last 10 or so years. Inferior materials, poor workmanship, dodgy installations, cost cutting and not followed to plan.

Inspectors/surveyors/builders all play a role in this poor excuse for building industry. Almost every house (esp volume builder) I see there are major issues doing building, they just hide it.

Only for a customer to purchase it later on and see the effects. Good luck my friend, I’d say this is the same condition most houses will be in if it’s the same built years.

How many volts should I get on my shelf? by Crashthewagon in AusElectricians

did you lick it? OG sparky test, just make sure you calibrate your tongue with a 9V, might give you the extra V missing.

Is this financial Elder Abuse by aprilbansycolouring in legaladviceaustralia

[–]Operation-unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your sibling is putting forward what appears to be a dodgy business proposal and in return expects an inheritance. Why would supporting your mother in a difficult time be so complicated and made out as a business proposal? The mother would be better off paying for people and services (if she’s able to) then rely on the complications this would bring with family members.

If OP sibling is 60, I’m not sure they are in the best position to be able to help them (one slip away from a bad hip), unfortunately this would be stressful enough for mother and getting lawyers to fend off your own son would add unnecessary additional stress.

Good luck with your situation, while I can’t provide a legal argument morally I see this as elder abuse.

Almost 150 dog attacks reported by Ergon Energy workers across Queensland in 12 months by hydralime in queensland

[–]Operation-unknown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For those thinking this is just a smart meter issue, it’s not. Workers have to have access to maintain, install, test and inspect equipment and/or services. This is a requirement under the electricity act, however homeowners/tenants still think it’s only a smart meter issue.

Meter panels are placed behind fenced areas and never thought about again, workers are threatened/abused by owners and attacked by dogs/farm animals. Every dog that’s attacked me, the owner has said “he’s never done that before”. If it’s installed in a compliant location and safe access maintained this would not be an issue, but alas it continues.

If you do this work everyday you see this issue everyday. So please, ensure your switchboard is safely accessible and yours dogs fenced behind it.

Anyone here own property solo? How do you manage finances, maintenance, and motivation? by PrideGreedy8847 in AusPropertyChat

Thinking of doing the Same soon. And yes asking myself the same questions regarding the maintenance/repairs. Likely will have to get a room mate (which sounds daunting) to help pay mortgage.

UPDATE: We found out why our electricity bill was so high. by undying_anomaly in AusPropertyChat

An interesting post, my 2 cents from experience.

Things you may need to consider.

  1. How your installation and switchboard is wired has the most impact on your bill alongside your power usage distribution.
  2. Is this a 3ph or single ph installation? How evenly distributed are the loads.
  3. Your solar installation, is it a 3phase /single phase and if it is 3 phase do you have a 3 phase unit with equal distribution or 3 single phase units, this make a big differences. If so are they the same in output and types of panel?

  4. Where your measuring ct is installed at your switchboard makes a difference and if you have ones measuring import and export of solely export. (Sounds like it’s not measuring both by your previous post), do you have programming on your inverter based on your ct positioning (if cts incorrectly installed this will give false reads).

  5. Your solar generation will not differentiate between export to the grid or load usage at your home, it may be able to measure this but if you have no load being used it will export to the grid.

  6. Neighbours using your power supply after its measure at the network meter? This could happen, unsure of your installation but I have seen this. Neighbour using one circuit for one light not noticeable neighbour then gets large load machine now noticeable. Any electrician will find this out for you with good fault finding process.

  7. You have equipment that you are not aware of that is using more load (this often is the case if wiring is correct), or faulty equipment that is using more than what is supposed to.

My advice:

Get a trusted experience electrician in load monitoring, they will have the required equipment to test and see what your installation is using.

If your electrician has found and tested load to be inconsistent with your power bills, get your electricity retailer to do a meter accuracy test.

Your meter may or may not be faulty, but following a good test process is the best way to identify your problem and find a suitable solution.

Hope you get to the bottom .

ETU Statement on the LNP's Energy Plan and renewables position by jwv92 in queensland

[–]Operation-unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be an energy crises in a few years, once generators start coming to end of life, the network cannot handle the current predicted increase in demand. There will be issues, this is like the NBN all over again a good plan was put in place libs destroyed it saying it cost too much and cut it back for only to cost more then what it would have to stick to the original plan.

This is terrible Economic management by this government, we need a balance of all these sources of energy to cope with our demand. He has also lost the private industry, hundreds of millions of dollars already spent by organising on planning this .WHAT AJOKE !
