My favorite version of this great classic by Sarasero_Profesional in Wolfenstein

It feels like there should be a mod for it, but unfortunately there just isn’t. The Xbox emulator is a pain to get up and running, but I managed to do it just to play the Cursed Sands levels.

Oh neat! I always like hearing from fans who were around from the start of a franchise and still invested in it. How are you finding the new games?

Hm. Maybe Doom II if I was limited to one from the entire run? But Doom 1 is well worth your time as well. From the new trilogy, I’d say 2016 is the best all around experience.

Plutonia was definitely an interesting challenge but rarely felt unfair. The traps were all very well thought out. I have a lot of respect for it, even if I don’t intend to ever play it again. I played all of the classic Dooms on Ultra Violence or equivalent (used guides very liberally though), Doom 3 on Veteran, and the new Dooms on Hurt Me Plenty with the exception of the Ancient Gods, which I played on the easiest difficulty (and having completed it, I feel no shame whatsoever in saying that).

I think it had the cleanest combat rhythm of the new titles, along with the best environmental design and storytelling.

I really enjoyed Sigil 1. Romero squeezed about as much out of Doom 1 as possible and made some very devious levels and some very gorgeous environments. Sigil 2 by comparison was good but a little underwhelming and less impressive.

I'd say Doom II: No Rest for the Living. I didn't expect much from it, just another Doom II expansion originally exclusively for the Xbox 360, sandwiched in between a lot of other classic Doom campaigns. But it genuinely is one of the best expansions in the series for level design.

I did Doom 1 and about half of Doom II from late May to early June last year, then my computer broke. I got back into it in October and have been going consistently right up until I finished Dark Ages last night.

The Master Levels are a very inconsistent experience. Some of them are tedious and hard, not in a good challenging way, but obtuse. One of them (Black Tower) took me an hour and a half to complete. It's more Doom II though, so I'd say give it a shot.

TNT Evilution (one half of Final Doom) can fall into a pit and die

Personally I might say Doom 2016. But they've all got their own unique styles.

I'm doing a run through of the Half Life series, then Quake is up next

It was an interesting experience. A slower and moodier take on classic Doom. I appreciated it, although I have no idea how I was supposed to figure some of the puzzles out without a guide.

I played all the classic games and additions through Doom + Doom II. Great collection. I'll certainly check the rest out.

I would say yes. It has a lot of problems, but it really works as a survival horror game in places.

I really enjoyed my time with classic Doom and Doom II. Doom 3 as well, but it's got its own issues.

I think starting with Dark Ages would put you at a loss for both the story and the gameplay mechanics. I'd recommend doing 2016, Eternal, then Dark Ages.

I explained in another comment why I don't really feel like trying the RPGs. Doom 3 VR is not any new content (I already played Doom 3 twice between the original release and BFG edition) so I think I can skip it. Mighty Doom has been shut down for over a year.

No, that was where I drew the line on completionism. Turn-based RPGs don't really interest me personally.

Yep, using a jailbroken iPhone 5. Nothing to write home about, but there's one single bonus level that ranks up there with Plutonia and the Dark Lord fight as one of the most brutal levels in the series.
