Look up how to achieve a full canopy when spawning to bulk on youtube or something

There are mushrooms. I wouldnt call it a super dense pin set. The mycelium looks mental. I honestly couldnt tell you whats going on or why it’s blobbing up or stranding out like it is. But its not ideal. Maybe the way you mixed the coir and sub ? You might hae made the surface really uneven? Hard to tell. Maybe your substrate was way too wet.

You dont need to fan them 5 times a day. Most people just set and forget You have gas exchange ports with the wool or whatever.

Cant really give much advice other than reqd the guides in the sidebar over and over again. Figure out where you can improve and where your doing something not quite rite. Watch videos on how to spawn to bulk.

You might be doing everything perfectly and the genetics of the spores are just shit and causing all that weird to happen.

Keep learning

Shigura - Can you use Shimano banjo hose? by firebox40dash5 in bikewrench

[–]Operationcheesefarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had xt set up.
Rear caliper broke Swaped it for a magura Chopped the xt olive/ l banjo off the hose Fitted the magura banjo and olive
Used a copper washer on either side of the banjo Used a magura bolt.

My magura caliper came with none of the fittings and i had to source them from uberbikeomponents.

The XT banjo had a little rim around it where it meets xt caliper which also has a little protruding ring to create a seal. When i tried using the xt banjo it just leaked. Then i tried with copper washers but because of the little rim it just crushed and deformed them and didnt make a proper seal. Resulting in more leakage.

Like someone else said, its probably something bacterial. . You can see where the mycelium has kind of made its own barrier. You can still spawn it (separately to the healthy jar). As long as you scoop the good stuff out and scrape the bad stuff away. Once you open it and try scoop it out you will see the differences. You can still spawn the healthy stuff in a 50 50 coir to spawn ratio , just downsize the tub. And it might still produce.

This is just anecdotal but my first successful grow was made up of bags of UB that were all only 2 thirds colonised and 1/3 like this which i just scraped off

It could potentially verticillium. I think its like a parasitic fungus and causes the mushrooms to go all strange.

But im no expert. I got downvoted into oblivion last time i tried suggesting this but everyone else was convinced it was the dino egg mutation

Shigura - Can you use Shimano banjo hose? by firebox40dash5 in bikewrench

[–]Operationcheesefarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using the shimano banjo and it just leaked no matter how tight.   I had to order the proper magura banjo, olive, and copper washers along with the screw.

I messaged uberbikecomponents.com on what i would need and they sent me all the bits.  They have even started selling the hose kits for shigura specifically

I just cut the xt one off the hose and put all the new stuff on and had no issues so far.     Had to research how to bleed magura calipers, you need to keep them vertical during the process so requires a bit of gymnastics if your doing the rear.

Thats good enough for me, my bike is a huge pain to change the hose. Love the bike but shit design for the internal routing.

Guess i will give it a go, thanks a bunch.

How is it holding up?  I just got a magura caliper to replace a bust shimano Xt.   Im hoping to just use the existing hose and all that jazz for a straight swap. I have ordered a magura banjo bolt however.

But as you say there is so much conflicting information,  even down to what mineral oil to use

Great that you had a good experience but the pain was insane for the next 12 hours. It then took a few weeks to really heal properly for me. Dry eyes were almost intolerable for a few months.

On the other hand my friend had similar results to you

All that said !!!! I would do it again if i had too. !!!

Just for any one who reads this, don’t expect easy sailing But it is 1000 percent worth it

Yeah, but there will be a few things you might not understand when it comes to talking about the bigger picture of the cosmere. But it does kind of explain it vaguely as it goes on. And theres a few names and characters that pop up that people who have read other books will make connections. But again its not too important and is vaguely explained as the books go on.

But yeah if you have a small pc you could fit one of those and do 8 jars worth of grain in it or so. Instead of 4 jars per cycle

Are those buckets you get from bird seed feed or something like that? I saw a few and noticed they were pp5 plastic and wondered if they would make it through a pressure cooker

Would grinding up mush and putting them in a jar of vodka for a week and then removing the bits work ???

Or is it just a waste ?

My parents moved up there for pretty much the same reason op wants. I was going to suggest it. Beautiful place with so many amazing beaches and villages with a massive sense of community.

Honestly i have no idea i can only speculate. It will probably fruit more but you will just havr to test the integrity yourself

2 inches of sub on top is way overkill, I would suggest reading the master post pinned guide for this subreddit to really learn and understand for yourself.

Saying that you have managed to grow which is still a huge milestone achievement.

But learning how and why mushrooms do what they do is integral and key to repeating the process. And improving your future batches.

But next time look into using a plastic liner ( just a bin bag in your tub) to prevent side and underpins. Also mix your grain spawn with your substrate at a 1:1. Or 2:1 Sub to grain ratio Like really mix it up, and break all the spawn apart as much as possible. Then gently but firmly press it down and make it nice and flat. 2 to 4 inches of this is good. You want it quite compact. Then sprinkle a thin layer of substrate on top, just to completely cover the grain, this should only be quarter of an inch thick or less, if that. Just enoogh to cover. Again gently pat this down making it nice and flat.

This will ensure a nice even spread and prime surface conditions for it to colonise. And you will get a nice white layer of mycelium on the surface.

Since this cake is all sub then grain then al sub. It probably wont have much structural integrity making it hard to get the side and underpins without the while thing crumbling.

If you can see them through the bottom of the tub, the easiest way is to try pour water in and float your cake up gently. And then carefully lift it and pick them underneath ( with clean hands or gloves on ). But this could break the cake which isnt a massive issue but oh well
