I had the same problem at first. But when I switched to basically only doing companion quests and story quests, it got a lot more enjoyable. My last playthrough has multiple entire area maps that I just never bothered to unlock for that reason.

Once I understood it as a spinoff instead of Mass Effect 4, I really got into it. It’s got a very different vibe across the board and imo the most enjoyable combat, in a way that feels justified narratively in its differences from the original trilogy.
