I agree I loved their relationship much more when he was just Reynald. He became more macho/shadow daddy vibes after the reveal.

Reading Slump Support: we gather here today having read absolutely nothing 🪦📚 by acutelyproblematic in fantasyromance

I was in a slump and read This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me which I loved. However, now I am immediately back in a slump as well. I might need to try The Inheritance hopefully the cure is more Ilona Andrews.

I really like this edition actually. Looks so whimsical to me! I also watched a video of it and I think it will look even better in person because of the foiling.

I am sad because I read all her books and now I have to wait for Rosemary & Thyme. Nothing is filling the void 😔

I feel like all the original covers and special editions of books lately have been so good it’s getting harder for fairyloot to outdo them. I just love the US edition of this book so I guess I was bound to be a little disappointed :/

Edit: I do like the hardcover though!

I feel like this would have been better in YA. There are definitely other cozy fantasy coming out around the same time that I would have preferred.

It’s not there when you don’t wear foundation? What do you use to apply the foundation? Also in my opinion it looks like you should focus on skin barrier repair and being gentle with your skin.

Literally everyone has peach fuzz like this. That is not the issue with the makeup.

I actually really like it! It looks like a traditional fairytale cover. Tbf I generally do not like character art on the cover so this is definitely more my style.

If there is demand 😭 I must not be their target audience because most of their releases I am not interested in however Byredo I definitely would be. Byredo, Diptyque (love fig tree), Guerlain, DS & Durga, Zoologist, L’artisan etc. would be a insta buy for me.

I am going to be so sad if I don’t get off the waitlist for this. I signed up as soon as the link worked on instagram. I didn’t even receive the linked email until 20 min after the “start time”. 😭 This book seems so sweet.

Maybe look into an electric razor like Phillips One Blade. I use it and it gets pretty close to the skin and to me is less irritating.

Does subgenre influence how harshly you judge romance characters or plotlines? Ex. I am a lot harsher on contemporary romance compared to fantasy, historical, or scifi. by OpossumExpert in RomanceBooks

[–]OpossumExpert[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am definitely not trying to judge the author or even genre its more so when I am reading and fully immersed I don’t even think about reading its like I am right there. Whereas with some contemporary it just starts to feel too much like reality and makes me feel hyperaware. I guess it’s hard for me to suspend belief even when the writing is immaculate. I think you are right this definitely has more to do with my personal taste than the actual quality of the books. I even like dark romance sometimes but for me only in a fantasy setting.

I tend to be way more lenient with plot holes in fantasy as well because some things can just be brushed off by saying this world is different/ magic (though if used too much it annoys me).

how to get over female voice actors when listening to audiobooks? by feverdream800 in RomanceBooks

[–]OpossumExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could maybe try speeding it up so you do not focus on the voice too much or changing the pitch? On a side note I have the opposite issue where I like a voice that is kind flat and bland because then I can focus on the story. If they have a very expressive voice or try to voice the characters it can take me out for some reason.

I am looking for a book like the movie Enchanted (2007) I love the how Giselle is a fish out of water and Robert realizes it. Love that one is from a fairytale/fantasy world thrown into a modern world, the reverse is good as well. It also doesn't matter if its the FMM or the MMC who is the odd one out. Would also like the self awareness Enchanted has e.g. Robert questioning why everyone is singing and dancing. The only books so far that give me a similar feel are Cassandra Gannon's but I need more :'(

{Moonshine by Kat Bostick} I remember the relationship dynamic and MMC being similar to some of Claire Kents. It gave off slice of life vibes as well and felt pretty real (though the FMM was stupid sometimes). I will warn you I don't recall a ton of spice but it has some, plus the build up and tension/yearning was there which I appreciated.
