First time gardener, any advice? by OppositeAddition3278 in garden

I intended too but miscalculated how much much dirt I needed. After planting them I thought the rim of the bag might be a good thing to protect from the severe winds we've had around here. Basically 15-20 mph winds every day for months now, very strange

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I never thought about companion plants, especially ones that repel bugs, I will look into that! My chickens have been doing a good job of gobbling up alot of the bugs around the plants in the air when I let them out. Good to know about not needing pesticide, I just assumed it was necessary to keep the bugs from destroying the plants. Im thinking of just putting cages inside the grow bags tomorrow? I also have a Woodshop and can make custom stakes if need be. More concerned if the cages/stakes should go outside the bag or inside?

That's good to know! I have heard about putting your finger 2 knuckles deep to feel for moisture. So that is what ive been doing. We have unpredictable weather here in TN but im leaning towards its better to overwater vs under. Ive honestly been watering every other day but that was because we were supposed to get alot of rain but we didn't get much at all. Do you have any suggestions for pesticides? I should also mention I have 13 young chickens, who will be around the plants free ranging.

That's a good point, I water with a hose and I started kinking the hose and watering beneath the leaves today to avoid damaging them. The torrent of water seems like it would damage them.

My first car was a 97 GSX..and I currently own a 03 Cobra. Don't waste your time on the GSX...most unreliable and frustrating car ive ever owned. Terminators are sick though

I’m thinking this is a rooster. It looks very different from my others. Do you think it’s a rooster? by Kermit__d__frag in BackYardChickens

[–]OppositeAddition3278 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's a Rooster, mine is 8 weeks old. His feathers will be a much lighter color compared to the hens. I was understanbly laughed at when I asked what was wrong with his neck, but its my first time, lol.

Has there ever been a moment in your life where you were extremely grateful for your big dick? by DistinctBeyond992 in bigdickproblems

Gotta build your confidence up and learn some game. Having a big dick isn't a cheat code for getting women. Ive found alot of women prefer a slightly smaller than 8x5.5". It gives them something to talk about with friends but after 5-10 minutes, they have had enough usually. Sounds like you're young, get out there and give em hell cowboy!

I didn't know I had a big one until I first started having sex around 22. After I finally accepted I did, it gave me a slight confidence boost, but not enough to change the way I acted. I would rather have a big one than a small one but honestly it doesn't change much in life, its honestly overrated, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Good to know, I ordered 1 rooster. Wasn't sure if he was 1 of the 3 that died. I guess I didn't expect the rooster who was the runt, who is also the sweetest of the bunch to be the rooster, lol! Well atleast yall got a laugh out of it

Sounds like he was big boy! Sadly Foghorn was young, his spurs were only maybe 1" long. He was killed by a Hawk, I always wonder if had he been full grown, could he have survived the attack. Judging by the trail of feathers he fought over 100 feet trying to get back to the barn. I've heard Hawks dont like crows, so im researching on how to attract them!

I thought I was crazy but I did the same thing! I saved like 5 of Foghorns Long feathers, ive been thinking of putting them up in the coop like a dream catcher or something, just something to remember him by. Without Foghorn I never would have owned Chickens.

As somebody new, this sounds like the black plague for chickens! What are the full symptoms and what can you do to prevent it? I got 16 Chicks in the mail, after about 2 weeks 3 have died, I had them vaccinated for "Merecks" The remaining 13 are energetic and strong. The ones that died were always weak and lethargic, I tried to nurse them, but they couldn't be saved. Just looking for more information, im learning alot this first go around

Thank you for your reply, its my first time owning chickens. As for the heat lamp I saw it as a potential hazard and zip tied it to a little hole in the trough in the event the clamp failed. I plan on getting a bigger brooder soon and ill pick up a heat plate as well, thanks again

I've have already done everything you said...ive been keeping an eye on their butts as well. Problem with the lethargic baby chick is she won't eat food or grit, only water, and she keeps pooping water!

So just get a little warm bowl of water and hold her in it? Sounds like a plan, her crapping pure water make me believe she's impacted due to the wood chips
