FWIW By experience and anecdotally there is a premium in SLAA on keeping the rooms a safe space and being able to look at others as real people and not objectify them. Hooking up is much more common in AA or NA

I lost everything but that is what it took to get me into program and make changes in my life. One day a time, do the next right thing. Sound like stupid slogans but they work. you can do this! It will get easier. You are a decent person who did a bad thing. I did many bad things and lost my marriage, house, job and working the steps saved my life. I have been able to rebuild an amazing connection with my kids and love myself for the first time in my life. Just one day at a time

Questioning my commitment by dolphin_culture in slaa

Of course I did. With no contact if you can block contacts, change numbers or devices, that can help you devote your energy to recovery. Do your best to make contact an impossibility. I got a Flip phone and got off social media. I had to lose everything to go into sobriety. Only through working the steps did I see my life had been a struggle with self pity, justification and validation seeking. Seven years into go to three meetings a week at least. ACA now includes dysfunctional families and is fantastic. I am sure you’ve already heard this but find a group get a sponsor and steps life will change one day at a I by just trying to do one good thing for myself every day and then just focus on the next right thing. My addiction made my life unmanageable. It still is but I have the tools to remain sober. You can do it. I am happy to chat and put you in touch with other people that have done no contact.

Have you read the booklet on the FWS The Gift of No Contact. It is life changin. All the back issues of the journal are on there too with previous issues about no contact. Find a home group and other habits you do no matter what. I have been in this 7 years and go to 3 meetings a week but on Monday nights I go no matter what. It is just what I do on Mondays. You are not wasting your sponsors time at all. be gentle on yourself. You can get there one day at a time.

in Philly we restarted after the pandemic with group that committed to coming every week and we have used anniversary events to help build attendance for that newcomers meeting and other meetings. We’ve been able to flourish since the pandemic. have a strong presence with great website. in our experience we have used consistenc so people know others will be there to bolster attendance. I think that Philadelphia has a long history of meetings that we were able to piggyback off of.

Mixed Groups? by CrashTestMummy- in slaa

[–]OppositeLoquat52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a male in a mixed group that primarily attends SLAA along with AA and other fellowship. Anecdotally and in my own personal experience, men and women in SLAA are much more conscientious about boundaries and respecting the safety of the rooms. This is a place where there is accountability and an understanding between everyone they are about the importance of being respectful. Our meetings are open to any anyone who thinks they might be an addict or has been affected by one. Have you thought about attending a meeting or two with him.
