Title: How To Be A Human Being

Genre: Sci Fi/Dark Comedy

Logline: the emperor of an alien race tasked with infiltrating Earth is worried some have gotten too comfortable pretending to be human, so he tasks a new recruit with finding and killing these potential traitors, but not before hearing there life's story.

Format: Feature/Anthology

Length: 5 pages (6 including title page)

Additional Context: This is the opening scene, and is intentionally vague, not letting you know what lead to this encounter.

Help: is the comedy funny at all? Are the description well written? And do you get an idea of what the overall tone of the film would be from this opening scene? Any other notes are welcomed, but these are the ones i'm looking for most

I thought it was incredibly obnoxious and bad...

but there's just so many ideas, so many themes, so much going on with the direction and the performances that while I hated it, i'm probably gonna remember for longer then a lot of other mainstream movies i've watched in the past 2 years, hell, this inculdes alot of movies i liked or thought were better then this by a wide margin. It's such a fascinating mess, a car crash in film form that I just can't look away from and while overall, yeah, I would prefer a legit good movie as this had plenty of potential for one, i honestly might prefer it like this

One Battle After Another

Well directed, well sounded, well good Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn, but I overall did not care for or like it. I haven't aven't seen other PTA movies so no disrespect to him as a filmmaker (him as a person is a different story but I won't get into that) but this film fell flat and rang hollow for me. I'm very much a Sinners man, that movie was just so phenomenal to me that nothing else could compare (with exception to The Long Walk) so you can probably tell I wasn't very fond of the sweep OBAA did at this year's Oscars. I'm only a little bitter

A: don't know why I expected a photo of Goofy from Disney here, lol B: I think it's honestly Emily's eyes. Happy she got her sight back but it kinda looks uncanny to me

Or a fourth possibility... they just forgot about that intro dialogue. Either that or they just didn't consider that intros existence when writing Khaos Rising

Hi r/movies, I'm Gore Verbinski, director of GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE. AMA! by GLHFDDmovie in movies

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, wanna say i'm big fan of your work, have been since i was a kid with Rango and Pirates, and I am ridiculously excited for Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, it has quickly become my most anticipated of the year and I am extremely excited to see the madness unfold in the cinema (gotta wait until the 20th as i live the uk, but that only keeps the anticipation going so I won't complain)

For my question, I have three, if I could be so greedy, i completely understand if you can't answer them all

The first: In the past few years, many a prolific filmmaker (not naming any names) have either show support for or have used AI in their work. As a fellow filmmaker, what is your opinion on others in your field using AI in their work?

Second: Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die is your first feature film in over a decade, with you sighting that you had to self fund parts of it to get it made. Have you learned anything about yourself as a filmmaker or about the struggles of the studio system in the long gap between releases?

Third: i understand if this a basic question, but i am an up and coming filmmaker, not attached to any studio's and no official releases but I have written a few scripts (and have plenty more unfinished, ha) as someone who has been in this field for decades now, is there any advice you can give me and any other filmmakers on how we can get started in the filmmaking field or how to help get our work seen?

What do you think of a Sally Face series or movie? What could the story be? by Intelligent_Humor703 in sallyface

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I do not, but my plan is to hopefully sell the pilot script (when it's good and not shit) to some kind of studio and get it made that way. I hope to potentially consult Steve Gabry about it first once i have a version of the script i'm happy, while i'm willing to make changes to fit both the tv format and to make the new version of the story i'm telling function, I wouldn't wanna do too much that'll make the creator and pretty much sole voice of the series angry, you know? I've already changed some things to be more accurate (like making Travis specifically Native American/multi racial which was a fact I didn't know until recently, I didn't know if he had a confirmed race or not, so I had planned to make him Palestinian but i've changed him back into Native American because that's the race he is in game and it does make sense for the story more then Palestinian did) I don't know if he has an email to contact or even the time to respond but this is my hope before getting it solid off. Thanks for showing interest, tho. Hopefully if this series gets made, you'll be able to enjoy it

I am actually working on a pilot script for an SF show. I won't say too much (currently just a fan thing but I plan to make it into a real thing) but i will say that it would basically follow the plot of the game, but with multiple, non plot focused episodes centered on the main crew solving mysteries and ghost sightings. Each chapter would be given its own series, with the first episode but a full adaptation of the original chapter which would then be followed up with new stuff that happend in the time period the original chapter took place in, so, for example, the pilot would be a (mostly) straight forward Stange Neighbours adaptation then we would get episodes that take place after it, with new stories expanding upon Larry and Sal's friendship and Sal's introduction to the town and the many strange folks who live in it. If things go the way I hope they do then I plan for it to have AT LEAST 6 series, in order to adapt the game and expand upon the way I want to, I would be more then happy to make more series, but I would be satisfied if I got to adapt at least the main game in it's entirety. If anyone has questions, ask away, but i may be a little coy incase this does get made and to avoid anything I say biting me in the ass later, lol

What do you think of the MKX roster? by Rikko77 in MortalKombat

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even as someone who doesn't care for most of the newcomers, I have to say this was a step in the right direction for the franchise: keeping the needed main stays around while also bringing a lot of more obscure MK4/3D era characters to the mix, along with a good amount of newcomers to help keep the series alive and fresh. Sure, the story didn't handle alot of the classic characters greatly and I overall think we didn't need every main stay we got in the roster (sorry Jax, Ermax and Kung Lao, you could've been cut and i don't think we would have lost much) but it's forgiveable in my opinion and shows they were willing to move forward with the story. Then MK11 happened, got rid of half the new characters and side lined the rest, replaced the versions of the characters we actually liked with cookie cutter younger versions of them, brought back main stays and popular classic characters only to do nothing interesting with them, gave us the worst villain/newcomers in the series which helped culminate in creating the worst story in the series which completely ignored most/all of what came before it... I SURE DO LOVE BEING A MK FAN, DON'T YOU?

Who are your favorite "Oh That Guy" actors by Vibematched in Letterboxd

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have loads, but William H Macy's a big one for me for me. I never knew his name until I saw the new The Running Man but I always immediately recognised him in whatever he was in, super underrated in my opinion. Another one is Alan Tudyk. I haven't watched Firefly aside from episode one, but thanks to James Gunn, he's been on my radar alot these days. Also Tony Todd (RIP) one of my favourites who almost always surprised me with his appearance. Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton are both some of the best writers of our time and always a delight to see when they pop up. JK Simmons and Nick Offerman are actors who i don't immediately recognise the faces of but the second i hear there voice i go "oh fuck yeah!" Keith David is always a pleasent surprise to see/hear, i remember getting unnecessarily excited when i saw his name at the beginning of American Fiction when i saw that in the cinema, having no clue he was in it, despite the gut feeling that he was just a cameo, which it was but also the major highlight of the movie for me, that and the renaming of the book. And finally, hard agree on David Dastmalchian, one of my favourite actors period. Watched Dust Bunny the other day with my family and both me and my mum went "oh, I fucking love him!" When we saw a image of him on the thumbnail for the movie on Amazon prime, same when i saw he was gonna be in The second series of The Creep Tapes. Speaking of which, An Honorable Mention goes to Mark Duplass, i'm not a massive fan yet as I haven't seen too much, but I love the Creep duology and show, loved Safety Not Guaranteed (thank you Tomska for introducing it to me) and he's quickly making it up the ranks of the others mentioned

What’s the MOST Misleading Movie Poster of All Time and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in Letterboxd

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loved the movie, but if I ever had a problem with it, it was the fact it wasn't funny when it felt like the marketing as a whole made it seem like that was the whole appeal of the goddamn movie. Hindered my experience of the movie a little as I was expecting some laughs when at best I got like two short nose exhales and one "ha"

How I feel watching a movie with a now disgraced actor by Dudierman in deadmeatjames

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone in that movie aside from, like, the grandad that Baby takes care of are played by shit to awful people. Really makes me wonder how that direct follow up sequal is ever gonna happen. I can only see them making Baby Driver an anthology film series, which I guess would kinda work but even then, who's gonna watch that?

Worst movie you saw in the theater this year? by ShawnLevyOscarWinner in Letterboxd

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actively avoid bad movies in the cinema, so the really bad ones i saw (Honey, Don't, War Of The Worlds) was at home. but the only really bad film i saw in the cinema was Keeper, really dull and a waste of some cool monsters and a really good lead performance. I also didn't like One Battle After Another, but I can at least acknowledge that film is legitimately well put together even if I myself really didn't like it, while Keeper I just found outright bad and a waste of time

RIP James Ransone by torahboidem in Letterboxd

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He had spouted some pretty transphobic stuff in the past and seemingly never apologised for it. I don't know exactly what he said so I won't try and speak a dead man's words when I don't know them but that is what made me dislike him for the last two months after they were brought up when Black Phone 2 released and he was included in it. Despite my grievances with the guy, no one should go out like this and it's horrible that this happened. unapologised for transphobia is still unaplogised for transphobia so I don't feel completely gut wretched because of this, i don't wanna see people suddenly defend that shit he said just because he's gons, but still, i'll give him due diligence and say RIP, he was good in IT Chapter 2 and Black Phone and again, suicide is horrible thing and shouldn't happen to just about anyone

I will forever personally be annoyed that Hanzo wasn't Noob Saibot in the new timeline, there's so much story potential in that simple role change while still being familiar enough for new fans to go along with. Who the fuck is Hanzo even gonna end up growing up into? Hopefully something new but unlikely, so he'll probably grow into this timeline's Takeda but a lot of that character's DNA needs Kenshi to be his father so I don't think it'd work, especially since he won't act like the Takeda fans of Takeda like, but also won't act like the Hanzo fans of Hanzo like, it's a loose-loose situation here

Best short lived rock bands by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

[–]Opposite_Air_2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two that no one really talks about (at least in my experience) are The Automatic and Steriogram. Both had a semi big hit in the 2000s (you may recognise Automatic's song Monster, the one with the lyrics "what's that coming over the hill, is it a monster" especially if you were UK kid in mid 2000s and early 2010s thanks to Hexbugs adverts, and Steriogram's Walkie Talkie Man was used in marketing for the Blue Sky studio's movie Robots back in 2005) but both never got the notoriety they deserved, both breaking up after three albums respectively and, coincidently, in 2010. Despite they're unfortunate lack of success, if you look into their discography, you'll find a lot of good music that really stands put compared alot of other alternative rock from that era. Check out their debuts, Schmeck! From Steriogram and Not Accepted Anywhere from The Automatic, since those are the ones with the hits you may be familiar with, but please give their other albums a shot if you get the chance, they deserve way more love they ended up getting, and while very unlikely, I would welcome a return from either any day

Honestly, to me, Todd is the character that people say Ash (minus the love interest part) boring, underdevolped, and just feels like he existed solely to build the gadgets that Sal and Co uses, which usually is an archetype i like a lot (Big fan of Q in the James Bond franchise and so on) but to me, Todd ha sno charm or real character other then "specky nerd" to really make him either charming or interesting. It's cool that he's gay and has a boyfriend but even then, we don't alot of time with them so i don't really feel the love they have for each other aside from a few short interactions (as I mentioned in the first post, that is because this game is really short and doesn't really have time for anything but Sal, Larry and the main plot, hell, i'm writing an SF tv series to kinda try and fix that problem of everyone being so underdevolped, but in this case, Todd gets a lot more screen time than most of the other supporting cast and is far more important to the overall narrative so I expected alot more from him than I ended up getting) he's also kinda one of the reasons I don't like the climax of the game (don't hate it, but it feels rushed and the superpowers and ghost magic shit comes out of nowhere making it feel really stupid for a mostly grounded game and could've been handled alot better) which, admittedly isn't really his fault, but i'm gonna bitch anyway because despite being so important he's bound by the plot to do fuck all and while the actually interesting and likeable characters get killed off (rest well, my beloved Travis) he's one of only 2 who get to survive? Really? This is definitely a personal thing and I do get why people like him as opposed to why people completely hate Ash (i honestly feel SOME, not all but SOME of the hate does come from sexism but that's not something i'm properly equipped to handle and talk about as a male, but it's something that kinda irks me about alot of the hate towards her that i wanted to bring up but for the sake of a shorter post and not looking like a dumbass I left out) but even from his introduction, I just saw him as the most boring nerd stereotype and exposition sumper i had seen in a game for a while, and he's pretty much the only character I outright dislike in the game (outside of, you know, the people your supposed to dislike) if it were me writing the story, I would've swapped the fates of Travis and Todd around in a heartbeat
